I love Tony Snow. In one way I'd like to see him take the job. On the other hand, he'd be better off staying put due to his health problems. I think Tony has himself set up well now...

I'm sure his health problem w/out a colon is not a factor for the WH since W's brother had his colon removed yrs ago and functions as normally as any of us.

I must wonder what Bolten considers "courting the press". That sounds like a job killer for Tony. The WH needs a backbone, and that doesn't sound like courting to me.

I suggest engaging the press; that is publically drawing them out on THEIR perceptions as the basis for their questions. It would expose their true biases. For example;

Is it your feeling, David Gregory, that Valerie Plame was an undercover agent? Her behaviour indicates she was not "undercover" and therefore there's no "CIA leak." Why do you in the media insist on calling it a CIA leak?

Pick an issue and draw them out. Expose them. Make our case in every instance.

Comparing Stephanapolous to Tony Snow?? These are not even remotely similar. Why the objection? ABC is ideally unbiased. The WH press Sec. clearly IS, or should be. McClellan perhaps tried to appear too objective.

Tony would be a great guy for the job - no doubt. But just as far as the MSM will let it go. It is quite possible that the idea of "courting the media" will be about as effective as Bush's "new tone in Washington". A major naive joke.

The MSM has chosen sides. It does not make any difference who you put in that job. IMHO, the MSM will remain on the blind liberal attack, without any regard for anything this adminstration might do. It does not matter -- Bush is hated and will remain a target for everything.

Those who think that Tony Snow as Press Secretary would be the same as the "straight talking" Tony Snow many of us grew to respect as a talk show host will be bitterly disappointed. A lot more "diplomacy" is required as Press Secretary.

Of course no diplomacy or respect is required of the Whitehouse press. You are right but I see in Tony a lot more clarity in putting forth his responses and that would be a good thing. We need somebody who sees the truth clearly and that has Tony's name written all over it. If he is offered and takes the job, perhaps he can give us FReepers a sign every now and then.

You make a good point here. I see Tony as being above being an apoligist for Bush's failed domestic agenda, especially the issue of illegal immigration and our border security.

Your anti-Admin rhetoric is showing.

No, I just think the job is crap, a thankless job. And the man has five children and an uncertain health future. I hope he spends it with his family.

"No, I just think the job is crap, a thankless job."

Well it may be a crappy job..I'm with you there. But you can't expect to be "Thanked" for any job. You have to want to do it for yourself.

Tony does more good in his current position. My vote: A conservative Don Rickles.

"...Bush is hated and will remain a target for everything.
..."

I beg to differ. Your statement seems to imply that everyone hates the President. That opinion just legitimizes the perception that the MSM wishes to convey. Yes, poll numbers are down, but most of those polls are generated by the very people who do hate Bush and spew their hatred across the nightly news.

Bush is NOT hated by the majority. He is respected, and more people than you might think, believe President Bush to have integrity, honesty loyalty and intelligence.

I wonder how many people could withstand the relentless attacks on their integrity day after day and still stand true to themselves. Lesser men, and we've seen many, would fold under the pressure and go along with the mob.

No, that is not what I said. It is the LEFT and the MSM that are the hate-mongers. That should have been clear from the gist of the reply. Sadly, Bush has been too passive in his own defense over his years in office. If he had been much tougher with his twisted critics of the left, I think he would have much more respect in the MSM, but he chose the "turn the other cheek" mode, which has cost him dearly.

Last week we discussed sending Scott McClellen a sugestion that he begin the daily session with retractions by the various papers.

I sent Tony a similar request just now along with continued best wishes.

I think anyone with half a brain realizes the job requires diplomacy- but it also requires someone who won't get fuddled when asked stupid lying questions and who has great "stage presence". He would handle the press very well and the public will like him which will be a big plus for the administration.

If you read some of the comments on this topic (which suggest that Tony will do a WWF style smackdown on the MSM), there are "half-brains" (as you put it) who may need to pause and reflect. It's tough to be charming and confrontational at the same time.

I think that Tony should not be a political spokesman for President Bush.

Somebody needs to do it and if Tony wants the job, I want Tony.
