April 24, 2006 - A former CIA officer who was sacked last week after allegedly confessing to leaking secrets has denied she was the source of a controversial Washington Post story about alleged CIA secret detention operations in Eastern Europe, a friend of the operative told NEWSWEEK.
The fired official, Mary O. McCarthy, categorically denies being the source of the leak, one of McCarthys friends and former colleagues, Rand Beers, said Monday after speaking to McCarthy. Beers said he could not elaborate on this denial and McCarthy herself did not respond to a request for comment left by NEWSWEEK on her home answering machine. A national security advisor to Democratic Party candidate John Kerry during the 2004 presidential campaign, Beers worked as the head of intelligence programs on President Bill Clintons National Security Council staff and later served as a top deputy on counter-terrorism for President Bush in 2002 and 2003. McCarthy, a career CIA analyst, initially worked as a deputy to Beers on the NSC and later took over Beers role as the Clinton NSCs top intelligence expert.

Yeah, and Clinton never had sex with that woman, Ms. Lewinsky.
Oh Yeah, I believe her. I fail lie detector tests all the time. lolol
The media frenzy may now commence.
Now it gets messy and political.
Let the mud fly!
It sickens me the way the leftists/ democrats twist everything. And that we have no one authoritative to put them straight in their place. Your head has to spin after reading this article. Can't someone come out and say the CIA's job is to keep secrets, not play footsie with the press, period?
The bias of the MSM is beyond imagination anymore - This lady seems to have clearly leaked information with no authority whatsoever to do so.
Mr. Libby situation is one of being completely different (for a host of reasons) yet the MSM hight-light one and defeat the other.
She should put her money where her mouth is. Sue to get her job back and we'll put her under oath, as well as getting a subpoena for Dana Priest (or whoever wrote the stories).
I wonder what the difference is between catagorically denying something and just denying it?
Does catagorically denying something mean your guilty of that which you deny?
Rand Beers? THAT'S who Newsweak went to to quote? Rand Beers was the guy McCarthy replaced at CIA!!! Then Beers went to wrk for the Kerry campaign. And Newsweak is owned by the WaPo, for which Preist works. You talk about incestuous!
She's not likely to publicly admit this, she's probably at risk of a prison sentence as things stand now. Hope so, traitor bitch!
She leaked classified information to a reporter about a story... but not THAT story!
Depends on what the definition is 'leak' is.
...I did it....no no..I deny doing it....I did it...no I didn't...no wonder she's a kerry supporter
And now? Well, we'll be treated to the most idiotic focus group nonsense in human history.
She signed a confession...end of story. Let the prosecution begin!
But no, it's a "communist party focus group"~~!!!
Guess that means that if Capitalism doesn't real win them over, Modern Marketing does!
Phew, glad that's cleared up.
Every story of McCarthy seems to describe her using the words "who was nearing retirement." - as if we should have sympathy for a traitor who close to getting a pension.
I don't think she'll have to worry about money. I'm sure Soros will pick up her bills, set her up for a few lucrative speaking engagements and a juicy book deal.
I know no-thing!
This sounds like public posturing from a person who is trying to protect her pension in the secure knowledge that she will never be prosecuted.
Yep and if captured, you would be expected to resist torture before giving it up!
Prepare for yet another Clintonian denial-fest.
As a vet, I only had a "Secret" clearance and signed a form on outprocesing that I could be prosecuted for ever releasing anything that was classified "secret", let alone TOP SECRET CIA stuff... this makes me sick.
They assume that the President of the United States and an empoloyee of an agency have equivalent authorities. He is not merely her theretical superior but the Chief Executive of the United States who authority rests on the Constitution. Her only authority is what is contained in her job description. Her duty is to abide by its terms and, of course, she has the duty of defending the Constitution. She has been unfaithful to both.
Not only did McCarthy fail the test, she admitted to perpetrating the crime according to the report(s).
These 'Rats..McCarthy and the rest at the CIA like her..
..her ex boss ..Berglar....Should all be "Mughniyah-ed".
Civil servants don't get fired for nothing. It's almost impossible. If there were any doubt, the CIA would have just let her retire quietly or take a job of less importance.
And although the MSM deserves eternal criticism, at least this story led with McCarthy's Kerry/Clinton connections. Thanks for not hiding the truth for once.
Absolutely. She's either guilty of the prison story leaks, or something else just as bad. But given her connections to Joe Wilson and his to Dana Priest's husband, it does not take a great leap of faith to believe she was in fact the leaker.
I heard that.
Too bad her friend and her can't get their story right.
As someone noted earlier, this is the beginning of a legal strategy, that is all.
Right -- like she's gonna admit to criminal behavior.
A serving CIA official said that the day that McCarthy was escorted out of the CIAs Langley, Va., headquarters, some former colleagues of McCarthy defended her, even while acknowledging they were not familiar with the details of the case.
I guess with all the unidentified sources it doesn't matter what story you spin.
Maybe Mary and Cindy Sheehan can camp out together. Oh wait, can't happen, Mary was about to spend the rest of her life "saving the children". (And I'm gonna be an astronaut.)
"I'm 200 percent innocent!"
I didn't do it and I'll never do it again!
Mary McCarthy: "I swear, I didn't leak!"
Mistakes were made. Leaks happen. Where are the plumbers now?
Amen to that! I've seen others "Swing from that yard arm" for a LOT less.
This is how Clinton first lied to america -- by lying to his friends and hanging THEM out to dry.
Lets face it...
No matter how many facts we provide, no matter how RIGHT we may be, the Mainstream Media is going to report exactly NOTHING that helps Bush, and doesn't come with gritty footage.....
Footage like an attorney denying things....
Let's take a look at some of the moonbat spin that's already being repeated OVER AND OVER...
This should be the story of the YEAR, if not decade, and it's going away without nary a peep....
Poor McCarthy (/sarcasm). What? Her "former colleagues" (read: DEMOCRATS) are defending her? Shock! Dismay! Yep, and mothers of serial killers never think their boys would do such horrible things either.
1. A security clearance is a privilege NOT a right.
2. People who hold clearances sign an oath (legally binding) NOT to discuss classifed information with those who are not authorized.
Anybody want to bet how long it'll be before she has a book out and/or a movie deal?

"MY LIFE AS A CLINTONISTA- How I leaned to hate Democracy"
Bush should have cleaned out all Clinton people on his 1st day of office 6 yrs ago. They have done nothing but cause trouble for him.
