On the Show Today

I do hope Tony is with us today. Somehow I think people will want to discuss something else, but this was what is scheduled

Republicans on the Rebound

Can the Republicans get back on track and give the American people what they want when it comes to Immigration Reform, High Gas Prices and Winning the War on Terror? Sen. Trent Lott, R-MS, weighs in on it.

Border Security Strategy

President Bush made a bold statement Monday claiming massive deportations “will not work.” Instead, the highlight of the President’s Immigration Reform will be center around securing our borders. Will it work? Tony has the latest…

Planet Earth's Dilemma

Earth Day 2006 passed this Saturday without much fanfare despite the grisly reality of global warming. Polar bears will face an imminent death due to the melting icecaps. New Orleans will flood again and again even if Ray Nagin is re-elected. And planet Earth will succumb to its inevitable climate change demise and cease to exist… Are you buying it?

Life Is Real

Read:
Psalm 56

Whenever I am afraid, I will trust in You. —Psalm 56:3

Bible In One Year: 2 Samuel 21-22; Luke 18:24-43

cover In the comic strip Peanuts, Lucy had just broken the news to Linus that children cannot live at home forever. Eventually they grow up and move away. Then she said that when he left she would get his room. But Linus quickly reminded her that at some time she too would have to leave home. When this realization hit Lucy, she was shocked, but she quickly came up with a solution. She turned the TV up loud, crawled into her beanbag chair with a bowl of ice cream, and refused to think about it.

Avoiding unpleasant circumstances is not as easy as Lucy thinks. Life's realities cannot be avoided. We may try to run and hide, but struggles and trials have a way of dogging our footsteps and eventually catching up with us.

Instead, we should face up to our problems. The psalmist David did this when beset by persistent foes and false friends. He didn't try to minimize his danger; he acknowledged the storm that was raging around him and looked to the Lord. He wrote, "In God I have put my trust" (Psalm 56:4).

Let's follow David's example—not Lucy's. Facing up to life's difficulties may be a frightening experience. But when we trust God and draw close to Him, we'll experience real deliverance. —Paul Van Gorder

Whatever life may bring your way
Each hour of every passing day,
Throughout the months and long years too,
The Lord in heaven will care for you. —Anon.

When troubles call on you, call on God.

I really feel that (again if it's true) we're sending Tony off to war. He's going to be shot at not literally but in every way from Sunday metaphorically. (Let's not forget Reagan's press secretary WAS shot)...
So Tony...Godspeed and good luck. Thank you so very much for your sacrifice...

Good morning all and thanks for the thread dinosaur.

My computer was being worked on last night when the thread came up about Tony's acceptance of the WH position. I won't take the time to read the 800+ post but came here instead to offer my support and congrats to Tony.

Tony, don't forget your snowflake-freeper friends. We are at your disposal for research, feedback or encouragement. Frankly I put FReeper research up as some of the best on the internet.

We'll miss you here Tony. **sniff!**

My local radio is reporting that CNN is reporting the White House Press job appears to be a done deal.

I haven't heard anything from FNC. I hope they are not mad.

Tony still may have to defer to an official White House announcement.

Good luck. I'll be watching for you on the live thread. :-)

I'm glad I got a new computer recently. I can still get a dose of Tony's good sense on streaming CSPAN, if necessary. ;-)

I've always had this hankering to make thread snowflakes, crocheted, knitted, tatted, bobbin lace. This could give me the perfect excuse. All with prayers for Tony's success and America's healthy survival.

Trent can get to be a bit full of himself...still, the guy is a native conservative even though he has disappointed. Don't forget, his colleagues stabbed him in the back too. and while I like Frist as a doctor, as a Majority Leader, he makes a good doormat. I'd like to see Mitch McConnell as Majority Leader come the fall. (We had BETTER win!)

In case you missed Cavuto's Common Sense from yesterday.

It was a good one.

Congress Blowing Hot Air at Energy Crunch

Monday , April 24, 2006

By Neil Cavuto

I see Chuck Schumer wants to investigate the oil companies for price gouging. Why doesn't he ask his fellow politicians to do the same about tax gouging?

After all, oil companies' profit works out to nine cents a gallon. Taxes total more like 40 cents a gallon.

But you don't hear Schumer whining about the taxes. After all, that's an easy source of revenue for a monotonous list of social programs whose failures are legendary. Better to keep funding them through taxes that are killing us, than demanding accountability due all of us.

Senator, if you want to bring gas prices down, start offering solutions and stop playing games.

Start opening areas for more oil exploration here, so we don't rely on oil from over there.

Start ending the environmental catchpenny of blended fuel mandates, that's done squat to clean our air but done tons to sully our wallets.

Start removing the restrictions that prevent companies like Wal-Mart from selling more gasoline here.

And start demanding the same accountability of our tax dollars that you do oil giants' dollars.

You do motorists no good, Senator Schumer, when you motor past the facts and only stop for an open microphone.

No one's a saint in this process, Senator, least of all... you.

If Tony is on the air this morning, I don't know about the rumor.

If Tony is missing then it's a go.
