WASHINGTON, April 25 — The Central Intelligence Agency on Tuesday defended the firing of Mary O. McCarthy, the veteran officer who was dismissed last week, and challenged her lawyer's statements that Ms. McCarthy never provided classified information to the news media.
But intelligence officials would not say whether they believed that Ms. McCarthy had been a source for a Pulitzer Prize-winning series of articles in The Washington Post about secret C.I.A. detention centers abroad. Media accounts have linked Ms. McCarthy's firing to the articles, but the C.I.A. has never explicitly drawn such a connection

A C.I.A. spokeswoman, Jennifer Millerwise Dyck, said: "The officer was terminated for precisely the reasons we have given: unauthorized contacts with reporters and sharing classified information with reporters. There is no question whatsoever that the officer did both. The officer personally admitted doing both."

Penalty for leaking classified info is 10 years for each instance / offense. If they have her doing it more than four times, she is looking at a maximum of 40 years.
If they link her to a conspiracry, and they will, she is facing many more years for that offense and the amount of times she conspired.
Maybe Cobb is saying these things, so her cohorts do not realize she is singing like a canary. She is in allot of trouble.

They can't. Every citizen (no matter what kind of low life miserable piece of pond scum they are) are entitled to face their accuser and question the evidence used against them. So her attorney will call all of her co-workers, subpoena her files, cases she has worked on, etc.,etc.,etc. The CIA main montra is "confirm nothing, deny nothing". So the government will never be able to turn over classified information with out risking national security.
For most CIA employees, the firing and removal of their security clearance is a death sentence to them. Where are they ever going to find work again??? Even if they left on good terms with the CIA, the CIA will never even confirm that they were an employee, so they have no past employment records or references and they can't tell anyone what they have experience in doing. The only jobs they can find without starting over in life is within the intel community.
The military would hammer harshly and fairly.
The military, on the other hand, has the ability classify Court-Martials and send people to their own prisons with out the civilian world being involved--or even mattering.
I politely disagree. Bush and Cheney know what is at stake here. They have known for a few years now, since this rogue group began to undermine the war.

We have troops in a combat zone and the message of weakness has made every minute more dangerous for them. I don't even want to think about the deaths the Dems have indirectly caused by pumping up the enemy.
This stuff should have been confronted earlier and harder.

It has been very difficult to crack this nut, but they have been able to start to. This is a very well organized group that has had 90% of the press doing their bidding. Not something that can be solved overnight.
Things are happening now, and it is going to be one hell of a ride. Look for the MSM to never be the same after this. People are going to jail for a long time, and the U.S. Supreme Court will not turn over their convictions, thanks to Bush stacking the court.
I certainly hope you are right. The Dems couldn't get in line fast enough to vote for the war, then consciously decided to crack a few eggs with the troops when the WMD issue fell into thier laps.

Officials said that Ms. McCarthy's security clearance was pulled when she was fired, but that no consideration was given to taking away the pension she had earned as a career C.I.A. employee.
Acting before Ms. McCarthy's dismissal, the House Intelligence Committee asked John D. Negroponte, the director of national intelligence, to study whether it should be possible to take away a pension from a retiree who was subject to only administrative or civil punishment and not criminal prosecution. A provision in the intelligence reauthorization bill, which goes to the House floor Wednesday, gives Mr. Negroponte 90 days to study whether pensions of intelligence officers who leak classified information should be revoked.
They need to prosecute her criminally. I hope they do to make an example out of her. It would be a disgrace to allow someone to keep her pension after admitting that she deliberately disclosed classified information on multiple occasions to more than one reporter. It would be a travesty.
I would say yes. Anyone that intentionally attempts to undermine our country when they are at war, is not being patriotic but treasonous.
Have you noticed that Kerry, Pelosi, Wilson, Clarke, Berger, Beers, et al are in the same age bracket? They all have the hippy mentality from the sixties. They obtained educations and got jobs in sensitive places and grew up. Yet, they never changed their mindset from the sixties that this country is bad, but they can make it better.
They are very dangerous.

However, the details and timing remain unclear, including whether that was ever true after Goss took over in September 2004.
