...Ohio St. some respect...
I remember him harping how Orlando Pace should get the Heisman. Long before Pace he wanted Hugh Green from Pitt to get it.
Great players, but....for the Heisman?
About 20 years too late.
Never liked him.
Pretty much the same for me, except after 1998 mostly we've gotten Brad Nessler or Brent Musburger in Ohio....
Put it this way...
I STILL don't think the Ohio State running game has recovered from Orlando Pace leaving...and that was over 10 years ago now.....
I recall a few years ago, he was brodacasting the Alonzo Stagg Bowl from Columbus, Georgia. They showed an aerial view of the stadium and Jackson commented that when he was a boy, he used to plow a mule in a field exactly where the stadium is now located.
"He's a hoss."
I think he might originall have been from Alabama; not sure how he ended up at WSU (WSC in those days).
Wasn't ESPN using Sumerall on some of their games last year. He would be perfect for doing the Cowboys games since he still lives here in Dallas.
Whoa Nelly! It's third down and a country mile to go! Jackson has an incredible voice but I guess it's time to move on. Sad to see this great voice of college football hang it up.
Great voice; he did make one mistake, when Monday Night Football came into being ABC wanted the college atmosphere and he was the announcer for one year or offered the job and turned it down.
I don't know if Summerall is still active; haven't seen him since he left MOnday Night Football.
At least one more: Whoaaaaaa Nelly!!!
It seems to be just as hard for announcing giants to retire as the players. If I may switch gears, the Astros have the legendary Milo Hamilton calling the games on the radio (now limited to home games). He still has an awesome voice, but it gets confusing when you rely on him to tell you what's going on in the game. Sort of like Harry Carey when he resorted to spelling Ichiro's name backwards instead of saying what happened with the gameplay.
Yeah, but people like myself still appreciated his
even tempered play calling. I especially like the fact
that no matter how spectacular the play, he wouldn't
get hysterical, even though he might exclaim the
wonders of the physical attributes used in making the play.
I hope his replacement is just as good.
Note: Fouts has good insight into the game, and in my
humble opinion is a very good analyst.
I thought Broyles left broadcasting to be the Arkansas AD.
He and Broyles were buddies as well as announcers. I recall once when one of them mentioned something about their both being Georgia Boys.
I had the honor of presenting him with a gift from the athletic department I worked for in recognition of his upcoming retirement. That was 1998.
