Oh I agree with you totally. I mean taken to its logical end these articles could apply to the his former Royal Highness himself General Clark when he ran for President or even people like Gen Powell and Gen Franks when they enter the political arena.

Or, as we joked in Vietnam (US Army):

"The chain of command goes from God, to First Sergeant Holt, to First Sergeant Holt's boot, to your buttocks, in that order."

Yes, he violated Article 88 of the UCMJ.

Well Slate is Slate you know. Its sort of like a liberal National Review or what the New Republic used to be like. I do like there Supreme Court reporter and often read the Kaus files they are pretty good.

Oh well, Jimmy Carter has a hilarious vindictive streak. I'd rather be Rumsfeld.

FYI to the folks at Slate....the Secretary of Transportation in included with the President, VP, Defense Secretary, etc. because the Coast Guard (which is under the UCMJ) was part of the Department of Transportation until it was moved to Homeland Security.

I had a long discussion with a friend last night, and we both agreed, one of the reasons we LOVE Rummy is that he completely pisses off the Liberals!

Reason ENOUGH to keep him on, even if he WERE as incompetent/mean/vindictive/petty/narrowminded as they say he is.

Hey, wait...those adjectives describe ex-peanut farmer Carter pretty well...

Yup. You never heard Reagan, Ford, Nixon or GHW Bush engage in that scrurrilous behavior.

Only Democrats. I think the last living Democrat who DIDN'T do that was Harry Truman. Well, actually, LBJ, but he never even WANTED to think of politics after he left office, just wanted to go back to Texas and die.

Actually, I think he should re-activate them and then post them in some God forsaken, disease and insect infested country with little to nothing to do (without airconditioning)

It was the "Bonus Protest". General Douglas MacArthur was in charge of dispersing the veterans. MacArthur believed that many of the protesters were imposters. George Patton, a famous general of WWII, was one of the officers charged with actually destroying the encampment

"Donald Rumsfeld has a notorious vindictive streak. How low will he stoop to pursue it? "

Liberals like to pretend that if they are talking about the nastiness of Republicans no one will notice that it is they who are truly nasty.

I believe Dwight D. Eisenhower, another famous general of WWII, was also involved in the military action against the bonus marchers' encampment.

Is this what passes for "journalism" over at Slate?

Yes. This, and shilling for poor Zacarias Moussaoui.
