Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Arlen Specter said Thursday he is considering legislation to cut off funding for the Bush administrations secret domestic wiretapping program until he gets satisfactory answers about it from the White House.
Specter said he had informed President Bush about his intention and that he has attracted several potential co-sponsors. He said hes become increasingly frustrated in trying to elicit information about the program from senior White House officials at several public hearings.
"It is true that we have no assurance that the president would follow any statute that we enact," Specter said. He said hes considering adding an amendment to stop funding of the program to an Iraq war-hurricane relief bill being debated by the Senate this week and next.

Bush, your support of Specter over Twoomey just keeps paying you dividends, doesn't it?
Hey Spector...you sure have loyalty...as*hole.
I really loathe this vile man.
That's because this is a classified national security program and responsible White House officials do not provide much information about such programs at public hearings. Perhaps Sen. Specter should try holding a closed private hearing, or maybe he should pick up the phone and talk to Alberto Gonzalez.
Note to Pennsylvania voters: Pay attention!
So this is how Arlen Spectre says thatnk you to the President and rick Santorum for saving his left wing ass in the last election? Nice guy.
The President doesn't need to be impeached, it's these Maggot Pandering communist Senators both Dim and Rep that need to be impeached, brought home and tarred and feathered!
The good people of the Pennsylavnia Commonwealth must be VERY proud to have this POS serving them!
That's it. Remove this asshat from his chairmanship at once. I've had it with this nasal talker.
MI Ping
Snarlin' Arlen strikes again.
Santorum could be defeated because of his support for vile Spector.
The only times in my life that I have voted Libertarian were against Specter. I refuse to vote for the sumbitch and I wasn't gonna vote for the Democrat either.
Seems like Specter wants to let the Dems off the hook on this one. Why not let the Dems make these threats for themselves?
Dear Senator, to put as politely as flesh and blood will bear, go screw yourself.
Maybe that cancer settled in his brain. This guy is the republican version of Chuckles Schumer. When a T.V. camera is within range, and Sphincter is near, LOOK OUT!
Face it Senator, you have a leak problem. BTW, is one of your cosponsors Sen Rockefeller(D) W.V.?
Specter is a S.O.B. behaving badly (Senile Old B@$^@r%).
Bush endorsed this creep for the office he currently holds.
Expecting gratitude from a RINO or Liberal Dem is like expecting mercy from a tiger shark.
I understand your position and have for a LONG time!
I'm wondering if Specter has already decided to retire after this term and so he doesn't care about support from GOP voters any more and he's moving rapidly to the left.
PING
His plan for warrantless wiretaps of al-Qaeda has compromised the privacy of countless ordinary Americans who receive calls in Arabic via portable satellite phone from tribal areas of the Hindu Kush.
Another great argument for term limits.
On now?
He should be impeached. He's a disgrace.
THESE PEOPLE IN CONGRESS ARE GOING TO GET US ALL KILLED!!
BITE ME SPECTOR!
If you do this, Senator Spector, to whom shall we look when the next terrorist attack occurs within the United States?
We need term limits because the average voter has abrogated to the incumbent their responsiblities to make an intelligent choice at the polls.
The best argument against democracy in the US is a five minute conversation with the average voter.
More BLOVIATING for his homeys............
#34 was my post that I asked to be deleted .. it came out wrong
LOL. You mean you didn't call Specter something incredibly vile? I would not have seen a problem with that.
But he's a `centrist' . . .

This is just politics at it's worst. Specter doesn't have a chance in hell of getting a piece of legislation like this through.
I apologize for the ignorance of the Senator from Pennsylvania who fraudulently speaks for me and the citizens of my state. Most supporters of Arlen Spectacle are dead, have been for many years and only show interest in politics during election cycles leaving the living to suffer his ignorance.
Arlen Spector, the guy that defended Ira Einhorn, who murdered Holly Maddux, stuffed her body into a trunk and left it to rot in his apartment, then went on the lam for 20 years or so in Ireland and France.
Once again, Spector is on the wrong side of an issue.
I heard that only 6% of the American public thinks that Islamofascist terrorism is a threat to America.
I wonder what they'll think after the first Islamofascist nuke goes off in NYC?
Sen Specter contact info. I just called SCREAMING! I told the woman on the phone what happens if we get hit again, I can just turn around and blame Sen Specter. LOL I asked her if he was insane. I'm so mad!

He is at least not rational.
I wonder who the genius was that told Bush to support Specter.
President Bush backed Specter because Specter was thought to be the most electable "Republican" candidate. Backing from President Bush was THE critical factor in Specter's primary fight. This part I understand.
What I don't understand is why we want Specter AT ALL.
Personally, I would be happier if Specter's seat were held by an RLD (Rabid Liberal Democrat).
Let me see if I can explain it to the good senator.
Robert E. Lee was an American citizen when he commanded the Army of Northern Virginia. The Army of Northern Virginia was operating on United States soil. As commander-in-chief of the US Army, Lincoln had the responsibility to defeat the Army of Northern Virginia. If he could have tapped Lee's military communications, Lincoln would have been irresponsible not to. If he did, because it was a military activity, he did not need a court order to do so, even though Lee was a US Citizen and the Army of Northern Virginia was operating in the United States.
Similarly, in WWII J. Edgar Hoover did not need a court order to listen to wireless communications sent to German spies in the United States -- even those that were U.S. Citizens. The Supreme Court so ruled, because the surveillance was done for military purposes.
So, unless someone believes that al Qaeda terrorists should be shown more deference than Robert E. Lee, Bush does not need a court order or a warrant to listen in on their communications for purposes of thwarting their military activities in United States.
Bush deserves every bite Specter gives. Specter didn't become a traitorous RINO overnight and he'll continue to hurt Bush and the GOP every chance he gets.
Good for you! If only you could get a few dozen other Pennsylvanians to do the same, maybe that prick would take notice, but I doubt it.
