He has been at this for 5 hours. He is flinging lies and deceit so copiously that I occasionally feel the urge to duck. There is no drain on taxpayer money. Dems want the oil companies to pay more in royalties for drilling on federal land.

Why did this get bumped from the sidebar.. I think this is pretty significant.. ONE Senator trying to get special treatment holding the U.S. Senate hostage... I think it may be coming to an end..

The New York twosome, Chucky and Hitlerly, are far worse. Wyden comes across more whiny and annoying, while those two are downright treasonous.

What is he filerbusting?

Apparently one of the reasons big oil made so much money is because of an oil lease the Clinton Administration made with them

Wyden has an amendment to change it somehow and he wants to butt in line for filing amendments and he wouldn't give up the floor

Not really. He just wanted to make sure that he was able to get a vote. He wasn't trying to get to the front of the line.

Kyl supports the Wyden amendment because the Wyden amendment makes sense. It gets rid of wasteful subsidies.

Oh, so he wants the costs to the oil companies to rise so the price of oil rises.

Makes sense to me. NOT

The land does not belong to the Federal Government. It belongs to all of us and if we benefit by having to pay less for energy then I see no reason to change the rules.

How long can he go on?

He is a Democrat, and they are like the energizer battery that just keeps, going, going, going and, going, you know what I mean.

The Democrats are full of wind and, the sad thing is there are no Republicans to take that wind from their sails.

I watched most of that session and I believe Senator Wyden's filibuster was an attempt to force senators to put their vote where their mouth is -- personal accountability -- pure and simple.

The filibuster is over; he went 5 1/2 hours until Senator Reed finally told him to shut up, yes, Senator Reed told him to stand down. He wanted a vote, was willing to go to the end of the line for a vote, but he REFUSED anyone to apply any second or first desgree amendments to his amendment.

I watched this for quite a while as I am on bed rest.

Anyway, Wyden wants to cut off royalty give-backs if the price of oil is over $55. Domineci says that the royalty subsidy is currently cut back by executive order (the secretary of the interior, I believe) at $37 a barrel.

Domineci said the CBO scored Wyden's amendment and it would save ZERO dollars. The CBO isn't partisan, so if they say it doesn't save anything, then it is clear Domineci was right and Wyden was wrong.

Wyden kept quoting the TOTAL price of the program -- but apparently most of that price is because of leases signed by Clinton in 98-99 that forgot to put ANY notice of subsidy phase-out. Wyden's amendment can't fix that because it's existing contracts.

Republicans were happy to let him have a vote so long as they could amend his amendment. Republicans wanted to change it to fix a word in the existing laws.

Existing law says the administration MAY consider cut-off points, they want to change it to say they SHALL consider cut-off points.

The dem's wouldn't allow amendments to the amendment, they were simply trying to make sure tonight's headline was that republicans blocked a vote on terminating subsidies to oil companies.

Frankly, I get a little irritated when folks on these boards disparage the filibuster. It is a method for the minority party to try to block legislation that they feel is unjust or wrong. The reason I'm a little peeved, is that our party will not be in the majority forever (possibly sooner than we would like) and we would be screaming our heads off if we didn't have the right to filibuster.

As much as I despise the democrats, I would not wish a one party system on my worst enemies. Am I in the minority here? Rant over.

The problem is Mr. Wyden was trying to get special treatment, and "test the process" ...the Senate does need to follow an organized process to get proposed ammendments voted on.... My message to Mr. Wyden, quit whinning and play by the rules.. if you want to get an ammendment passed you need to get 59 other Senators to agree with you.... end of FILIBUSTER... welcome to the REAL world !!

I am not sure what you mean? Do you disagree with what I said? The reality is that unless a Senator can get 59 other Senators to agree with you, there ARE NOT GUARANTEES !

Just another reason why we NEED 60 REPUBLICAN SENATORS in November !!!.... Give the President a chance to get his FULL agenda passed !

Hard to disagree, although he pales to Hitlery’s shrillness. Schumer is more dangerous than The Swimmer, as Chuckie is smart and does good sound bites.

I think that was soft, low sulphur clean burning coal - but look at it this way - we have a new national monument and I'm pretty sure there's some guy from SE Asia named Riady that'd be happy to sell us all we can afford. :-(
