A disabled Red Bank man foiled a home invasion early Thursday morning by getting off four shots at a man busting in his bedroom window.
Red Bank Police Lt. Jim Kyle said the incident happened at 1:30 a.m. at 203 Euclid Ave.
He said David McCutcheon was asleep in his bed when he heard his bedroom window breaking, then saw a masked man coming through the window.
Mr. McCutcheon reached for a .32-caliber revolver and began firing, causing the masked man to make a hasty retreat.
Lt. Kyle said Daniel "Spike" McCabe, 28, was found to have a gunshot wound later in the day in Soddy-Daisy when he was examined for a drug overdose.
He said McCabe, who is originally from Red Bank but now lives in Soddy-Daisy, has been charged in the Red Bank home invasion.
Lt. Kyle said one shot hit McCabe in the arm, two shots hit a bedroom wall and the fourth shot went through the window.
Officers went before General Sessions Court Judge Bob Moon after Red Bank Judge Gary Disheroon was not available. Judge Moon set a $500,000 bond for McCabe since he was on bond for aggravated robbery and aggravated assault.

Again, picture the mental image of a cock-sure intruder's eyes suddenly going wide (whether it be the flash and smell of gunpowder, the loud and unexpected bang in the night, or the searing pain of a .32-calibur bullet piercing your arm) and suddenly jerking into reverse and tearing like heck away from the home you intended to invade. It is one frightening enough to give other would-be intruders pause.

Looks like a S-L-O-W learner to me....just a shame it wasn't right between his eyes.

Mr. McCutcheon reached for a .32-caliber revolver and began firing, causing the masked man to make a hasty retreat Sarah Brady, John Hopkins, and the AMA disagree with Mr McCutcheon's actions. He should have called 911 and waited (and waited, and waited) for the police to arrive to send his body to the morgue.

He should have had a bigger gun and hollow points.

"He should have had a bigger gun and hollow points."
It is hard to argue with a successful conclusion. He used what he had and it worked. Better a .32 in hand than nothing.

The only chance the disabled (or elderly) have against this new breed of young thug aka home invasion specialist is a handy firearm...and in most cases this means a handgun.
To take gun ownership away or to take away the God given right to self protection is one of the more immoral stands our leaders have taken...
That an encouraging the invasion of America by hundreds of thousands of these kinds of criminals...(27% of America's prisoners are illegal aliens..plenty more on parole or at large)
imo

He should have had a bigger gun and hollow points. Well, it depends on which .32 revolver it was. If it was a .32 H&R Magnum (95 grain lead semi-wadcutter bullet at 1030 fps and 225 ft. lbs. of energy, or an 85 grain JHP bullet at 1100 fps> such as this Taurus
Rather than .32 S&W long (98 grain lead round nose bullet at a muzzle velocity (MV) of 705 fps from a 4 inch revolver barrel.) like this one.

A bunch of difference in power and effectiveness.

I won a Mossberg over/under 20 gage shotgun in a raffle tonight at a Friends of the NRA dinner and fund raiser. I took the double over a Remington 30/06 with scope.
Anyone know anything about this gun. It's a "Silver Reserve" model with removable chokes. I can't bring it home until a 10 day back ground check here in Cal...
