HOLLYWOOD legend Elizabeth Taylor is reportedly on
the brink of death after her heart began to fail.

The Oscar winner, 74, is believed to be bedridden in her Bel Air, California, home. Taylor reportedly cancelled her annual Easter party to plan her funeral.

She is expected to be buried next to former husband Richard Burton in Switzerland.

"Liz is inching closer to death every day and she knows it," a friend said.

The actress was diagnosed with a disease known as congestive heart failure, a terminal condition where the heart weakens, pumping ever-decreasing amounts of blood through the body. Taylor has been confined to a wheelchair since 2004, having broken her back five times.

Advertisement: Taylor has been near death with pneumonia twice, endured a brain tumour removal, has had skin cancer and has been a recluse since her health started failing. "She's not leaving a lot of money to her children. She wants the bulk of her fortune to go to AIDS research."

The actress said she was at her happiest while with husbands Mike Todd and Richard Burton, and in recent months mourned the loss of her pet Maltese terrier, Sugar, of whom she said: "I've never loved a dog like this in my life. It's amazing. Sometimes I think there's a person in there."

Ms Taylor won her first Oscar in 1961 for the film Butterfield 8, following this up with another in 1967 for Mike Nichols' drama Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf, often considered her best screen performance.

Strawberry blond!

I didn't know that.

Those black haired wigs fooled me!

Yes, she was a conniver.

Yes, at one time she was gorgeous. Beauty and life are fleeting.

I think she had a very difficult time coming to terms with the loss of her looks and aging.

I wish her well.

It was the other way around. She converted when she married Mike Todd, and she married Eddie Fisher after Mike Todd died. Liz was a supporter of Israel, and I think her bodyguards are Israeli former commando types.

Who's the dude with the bad hat? And why is Liza holding on to a mannequin of Dick Martin?

You can always count on someone to pipe up and be a Little Ray of Sunshine for Jesus. :-D

I guess my take on aging is different,
I still see her as quite beautiful,
different, but still beautiful.

I see lots of elderly women like that....you can still see 'who' they are ;)

but I didn't realize they were terriers

Some consider them spaniels.

I had a Maltese. He was the best friend I've ever had. I miss him. Those pictures look just like him. I'd love to have another one, but they are so hard to keep groomed. I don't like the short hair cut, but we did keep the hair around his eyes cut. He wasn't prissy; he thought the bows were sissified. He sounded like a big dog, too. I am convinced he saved me from a home invasion once. The guy couldn't see him; he could only hear him.

Some of us just like to enjoy a movie sometimes, Zechariah. That's really all there is to it. :)

TRAMP.

Thanks for joining the thread. You can't have Bewitched without a good Gladys Kravitz.

Ah yes, another blue-nose heard from. Actually, she's the opposite of a tramp. I heard her say in an interview once that she'd had so many marriages because she was raised to believe you should be married to a man if you were sleeping with him.

I don't know how far I would go to defend her--didn't she steal Eddie Fisher when he was still married? Still, I take the point.

She's one-of-a-kind. Which is to the advantage of everyone else, because even with her beauty and her talent, no should lead a life like she did.

In her younger days she was absolutely the most beautiful and sexy star out there. A great actress. Getting old is better than the alternative. So I have been told. God bless her.

I don't admire every single thing she ever did. I just enjoy her movies sometimes. Really, that's all that I judge her on.

Yes, she was vilified for "stealing" Eddie Fisher from Debbie, and "stealing" Richard Burton from Sybil, but I don't think you can "steal" anyone who doesn't want to go. ;-)

She and Debbie Reynolds eventually "kissed and made up" - after seeing how Eddie Fisher wound up, I think they both realized what a loser he was.

Debbie has a great sense of humor and has been really funny in her recent TV "mother" roles and things like that.
