A day in the life of President Bush (4/30/06): photos of correspondents dinner
Yahoo News Photos ^ | 4/30/06

PRESIDENTIAL NEWS OF THE DAY: President and Mrs. Bush attended St. John's Church this morning, as is their custom when spending the weekend at the White House. Last night they attended the annual White House Correspondents' Association dinner, where the President and his "alter ego," comedian Steve Bridges, stole the show.

The best review I found is on USA Today's website. Since I'm not sure how much of their material we can excerpt, I'll just provide a link. The article includes a nearly complete transcript of the President's and Mrs. Bridges routine.

Here are the BACKs of two secret service agents. I have plenty of other shots but will just share these. They LOVED out stuff & gave us thumbs up. When they first saw us on the corner a group of about 6 made a quick street sweep to see if we were friend or foe. When they noted we were “good guys”, we got smiles & thumbs up. the gentleman by the plagerist sign is Bill (FReeper - wheelbarrow) who I traveled with. He hasn't been to DC since WW2 & is a WW2 vet with purple heart. Family friend

I agree we have comedians like that in Britain. On the other hand you have comedians who perform live much better, though normally live they have a fair bit of blue material maybe that was another problem he knew he had to be clean.

I agree. It really could have been funny but it was dragged out for so long that it was just irritating.

IMHO that was not bad but Colbert just did not have the ability and charisma to narrate it.

We have a similar campaign going on in this country. The newspaper we normally get actually gave stickers away recently to stick in rear window of your car to campaign to abolish this unfair tax.

It not only affects the rich in Britain but the average Joe has to pay it as well if their parents leave a house.

Hi snugs. I got your FReemail and also the CD's of the Queen's birthday. I was enthralled with them. I especially loved the Corgis, of course. The one that sits up on his haunches begging for a treat remind me of the first dog I ever had -- Sam. He would sit like that next to me at the dinner table. I've never had another dog with that particular mannerism. Never even saw another one do it until I saw the Queen's Corgi do it.

I also loved the litte bit where the news people were talking about a blown up toy Corgi. I laughed when they said the sniffer dog bit the toy Corgi's ear off.

[A re-post from earlier today]

THE PRESIDENT AND HIS ALTER EGO WERE AWESOME LAST EVENING and so was Wolfstar and the entire DOSE family: 1,282 comments and 22,536 views. CONGRATULATIONS!!!

BTW: Colbert got only one thing right last night . . .

"At the Bloomberg News post-show party, with guests including Desperate Housewives star James Denton, ER's Maura Tierney, Terence Howard, Ron Silver and others, COLBERT was almost the last person to arrive. He seemed pleased with his performance.

"I had a great time. THE PRESIDENT KILLED. HE'S A TOUGH ACT TO FOLLOW -- AT ALL TIMES. IT'LL BE TOUGH FOR WHOEVER COMES IN 2008, TOO." [Yes it will, Mr. Colbert, yes it will!]
