A day in the life of President Bush (4/30/06): photos of correspondents dinner

PRESIDENTIAL NEWS OF THE DAY: President and Mrs. Bush attended St. John's Church this morning, as is their custom when spending the weekend at the White House. Last night they attended the annual White House Correspondents' Association dinner, where the President and his "alter ego," comedian Steve Bridges, stole the show.

The best review I found is on USA Today's website. Since I'm not sure how much of their material we can excerpt, I'll just provide a link. The article includes a nearly complete transcript of the President's and Mrs. Bridges routine.

Just FYI, for those who may be unaware: The First Lady has been traveling the country a lot recently. She has been combining apperances on behalf of the White House youth initiatives with campaigning for Republican congressional candidates.

President Bush with comedian Steve Bridges, who impersonated GWB at the correspondents' dinner. For those who missed it, this routine was hilarious. Bridges play the President's "bad side" telling the audience his private thoughts, while GWB spoke the more diplomatic things for public consumption.

Steve Bridges was perfect at the President's alter ego. Bridges got the voice, mannerisms and even the shoulder-shaking laugh of GWB down wonderfully. (The heavy makeup so Bridges could look like Dubya was a little weird, but the overall effect was hilarious.)

Steve Bridges as President's Bush.

I didn't watch it, but I wished I had. They are usually hilarious. Also, I had hoped there would be a future airing of it, but I guess not.

I know there are some polls out there that say this man has a 32% approval rating. But guys like us, we don't pay attention to the polls. We know that polls are just a collection of statistics that reflect what people are thinking in reality. Reality, that's a well known liberal bias."

IMO Colbert was unwatchable.

"Comedian" Stephen Colbert provides the entertainment [cough; gag] as President Bush watches during the White House Correspondents' Association Dinner. Colbert was NOT funny. Instead, he was vicious.
