That ain't the half of it.

If anything, this will show the true colors of much of the agitprop.

You've never been in Pittsburgh during rush hour, obviously.

Heard on the news that in Mexico the 'movement' is going to be boycotting WalMart, marching to their stores to send them a message since they're an American company.

Frankly, I think you can make better authentic Mexican food at home

Quite true! And frankly, if a restaurant isn't worried about its employees being morally healthy, I'd have to question are they REALLY washing their hands? Yes, I'd rather wrestle with a burrito at home!

Did I read somewhere that Purdue is closing today?

This issue is seriously overblown.

When I was growing up, (in the upper Midwest), May day was a huge holiday, where retail stores all had sidewalk sales, and parades were back to back all day long. It was also a factory holiday.

Call it what you will, but it is traditional and the fact that not everyone celebrated it, does not make it some sort of Communist plot as some have been saying.

I find all this hyperbole to be nonsense. Just plain vindictive nonsense from a right wing sector that has lost it's marbles.

Last year it was Schaivo. This year it's immigration. What will it be next year?

Per your comments on the locked thread, you might enjoy reading

Uno de Mayo--Radical leftists resume massive rallies on May Day...with illegal immigrants as props.

If you dismiss Frontpage Magazine as a vindictive right wing site, try the Socialist Worker Party for a more objective take on International Workers Day.

WHICH SIDE ARE YOU ON?--Renewing the traditions of May Day

Next year, same as this year, the celebration has been going on since the 19th century, they’ve simply found a new source of support.

Suggestion/Question: Is there a business out there which has boldly stated that it will FIRE any and all its employees who skip work in order to protest?
If so, I will endeavor to direct my discretionary dollars toward it!

Just spent $235 on groceries, $50 at Home Depot, and $89 at sears.

Got breakfast from the legal immigrations across the street who just opened their second business, a deli.

Also going out to dinner tonight. I might pick up a book on the way home.

Planning a vacation to Savannah, GA and Houston, TX - will try to convince the wife to book tonight on-line ($2k).

Best part is - no gas used (purchased all on-line) and all purchased through Upromise so I saved money for my future kid's college tuition! I highly recommend http://www.upromise.com I've saved $2k in 2 yrs and I don't even have kids, yet. Money is invested in a 529 yielding a 4.5% return so far on free money.

I just called our local Perdue processing plant. They're open. However, I have been at the bank where they paychecks are drawn at quitting time on payday. I don't recall seeing the first Hispanic in the large groups that cashed their checks those days.

Just for the record, May Day predates Communism. In Sweden, folks celebrated the coming of spring with dancing around the May Pole long before the Bolshevik Revolution.

Not disagreeing with any of your sentiments...just clearing the record.

I plan to find out any Mexican restaurants in town that are closed today, and bidding them all farewell if they are.

Listening to 570KVI Talk News/Fox Radio in the Seattle area.
Kirby Wilbur is a great host and is talking about the boycott and encouraging folks to go out and spend $$$s today. The illegals have decided to have the walkout/boycott/march in downtown Seattle at 4 p.m., which may mean that there weren't enough people to show up for the march earlier and/or that they are going to try to do the most damage to snarl traffic for those many, many people who work in downtown Seattle and are trying to get home after work (the traffic is usually a mess down there anyway).

Kirby also mentioned a guy who called in. Said he has a landscaping business and has legal Mexicans working for him. Apparently, these Mexicans were threatened that if they did not show up for the march and boycott, something may be done to them and/or their family members and their equipment would be destroyed.

Nothing is happening in my area, so little changes for me - at least locally.

Believe me, there will be little changes nationally, this shut down will have NO effect on anything.

In fact the only people noticing will be the lamestream media.

Yes.....I see it as a nationalistic reaction to all the hyper venting over here.

It is the same mechanism that brings more illegals to the border, every time the amnesty word is mentioned.

My opinion of all of this, is that the anti-illegal movement is causing most of the problems they are agitated about, and it is not going to get any better if it continues.

The debate on this issue has been high jacked by every group that has the anarchy as it's main agenda, and you cannot separate the players without a program anymore. Not on either side of it.

Since my son went to college in Pittsburgh, I assure you I have been in Pittsburgh during the rush hour. Many many times. But I am missing your point.

There IS a folk tradition of May Day completely separate from the political realm.

My Grandparents brought it over from Sweden, and many communities continued a British tradition here as well. May pole, flowers, all that.......
