Monday's immigration march exceeded the expectations of its organizers, angered some opponents but remained peaceful throughout. Nearly 1,500 people walked across the city in one of the largest demonstrations in Yuma.
The march through the city was followed by the sounds of cheers, honking horns and, at times, words of rebuke. When people were gathering near the Yuma Civic Center prior to the event, counter-protesters were already out with their own messages.
When asked why he was marching, 15-year-old Jesus Ruiz had a simple answer: "For my country," he said. When asked which country that was, he said Mexico.
This sort of opinion is what angered Joe Good, who came to the civic center to hold up a sign that said no amnesty for illegal aliens.
"They don't want to be Americans," he said. "They want to be Mexicans in America."
There were many U.S. and Mexican flags on display in the march. Luis Heredia, one of the march organizers, said many of the small U.S. flags were donated and handed out to people just before the march. The largest flags were those being flown from vehicles driving up and down 4th Avenue, and these were almost exclusively Mexican.
March organizer Emma Torres said those in charge expected to see some opposition along the route. She said counter-protesters had the same right to speech, but they did not represent any sort of majority.
"Most people don't feel that way," she said. "Thank God there's only a few."
Torres said the next step was to get the voices of the marchers heard through voting. Registration cards were being circulated and people could sign up to be contacted later.

So, there shouldn't be any patriotic Americans who believe in the constitution?

Since when do illegal criminal invaders get to vote in America? These protestors are showing their true colors - red, white and green.
This will not play well in middle America. The illegals will rue the day America finally woke up after viewing the mass demonstrations.
Invade and conquer Mexico , clean up the government there
entirely , make it a territory of the USA.
Since every Mexican wants to come here anyway , they shouldn't object.
The USA could make Mexico vastly better than the Mexicans ever could .
I saw signs and heard chants saying: "Today we march. Tomorrow we vote!"
I honestly have never held ill feelings toward ANY immigrants. My grandparents were immigrants. These illegals however, are not immigrants. They demand rights that are not theirs to claim. When my family arrived, they demanded nothing. They worked and sacrificed, learned English, and became real Americans. They joined the military and were very proud to be able to wear this Nation's uniform. They passed all this on to my parents, who passed it on to us, who now pass it down to the next generations. This tidal wave of illegals demanding what isn't theirs....... sorry, it just aint gonna fly. I can take care of my own yard and grow my own lettuce!
The Chinese are trying to create a war between the northern and southern border countries of the United States.
the mexicans seem to be assisting in that
There are probably several times that many illegals booking across the border near Yuma every day when the weather is good.
My son (5th grade) said 7 of his 24 classmates took the day off for the boycott. I tried to be restrained - they're his friends - and good kids - but my views of their parents will never be the same. (And I still made him upset.)
Here they are getting a good education with my tax dollars (and at the expense of holding my son back 'cuz they can't speak english fluently) - and they SKIP school - the priviledge that they have by being in this country.
These people must be hell-bent on starting a war.
We had 2,000 of these creeps marching in the little town of Bullhead City Arizona today. (they had predicted 4-5 thousand)
Politicians should all be tarred and feathered, at the very least.
Please clarify Ursus. I don't understand what you are trying to say. Thanks!
Some illegal immigrant protest participation numbers on TV just now:
400,000 Los Angeles
400,000 Chicago
30,000 Florida
20,000 New York City
15,000 Houston
Effect on the economy: 0
Wonder if he has been on the payroll while doing this organizing????
Someone else picked up the tab for police, trash pick up, crowd control, etc How would you like to have a business on one of their routes? You would lose a day of business and not support this crap.
bttt
Not in Arizona Senor Torres. Prop 200 requires voters to show a U.S. goverment approved ID before voting and/or receiving public assistance in Arizona.
history is replete with those who have started wars, only to be themselves totally destroyed and consumed by the very war they so wanted.
They don't want to be "Mexicans in America"
They want Mexico IN America.
