Ithaca, NY? The list said American cities. Ithaca is so far off the chart left wing that it could be located in Cuba or North korea.

(This was not an actual routine, but in memory of Carson, I will use his name and format. I invite fellow freepers to come up with their own punchlines.)

JOHNNY CARSON: I came from a really conservative town.

AUDIENCE: How conservative was it?"

CARSON: It was so conservative that the Unitarian church doubled as a hunting lodge!

It was so conservative that "AIDS awareness day" meant having the the school children write thank-you cards for the folks who helped grade papers.

I got all excited until I saw this.

5. Colorado Springs, Colo.

apparently this is like that "truck review" done by the magazine where the authors didn't actually "drive" the trucks, they just picked what looked good from the spec sheets.

Wow, I see Clarksville, TN is on the list and at #7. I live about a couple of miles from Ft. Campbell, the home of the Screaming Eagles

Hey,
As soon as I am done with school, I'm thinking of moving out of this liberal ghetto called Portland Oregon. I have lived here 35 years and am suffocating!
I have a brother in Aurora, Co. Would you recommend that I move to Colorado? (I love Tancredo too)
Thanks,
MCakes

Not if you are looking for a conservative city!

I've called Colorado Springs home for almost 30 years and the politics in both the city and the surrounding area of El Paso County remains highly conservative. Many of the major non-profit religious organizations call Colorado Springs home. The Springs is a great city to raise a family and get away from all the liberal politics that exist in so many other American cities. We're consistantly ranked as one of the most conservative enclaves in America.

Sure. Outside of the liberal encalves of Denver and Boulder, I'd call most Coloradans, independently conservative. The state is ranked #4 in lowest taxes nationally. You could do worse.

"Southwestern Virginia (Roanoke etc) "

Actually, southwestern Virginia (the Ninth District) is represented by a Democrat, Rick Boucher. I agree that it's a pretty conservative area so I'm not quite sure how a Democrat keeps getting elected down there. From what little I know about him, he's conservative for a Rat, and is one of the leading Congresscritters on protecting the rights of users of "digital property" against the big cartels like the RIAA, MPAA, etc--he's great on privacy and fair use issues. But he's still a Rat.

Old southern yellow dogs.

and some us (poor) versus them (rich) attitudes from an abundance of blue collar

yet very socially conservative

Bart Gordon's gerrymandered district in Middle Tenn is like that

After living in Seattle for a while, it's hard to imagine the city only being number 10.

I mean, really.  These people are freaks.

I drove up there a lot as a lad.

Then over the front range into Buena Vista for pancakes

memories circa 69-70

for a Mississippi lad, trips to Santa Fe and Colorado to see kin were so alpine.

always thought I'd live out west...funny....i ended up tropical first two decades of my adult life
