Wow!...But I thought news reporters were objective? (SARC)
Looks like I will have to try it later.
Los Angeles exists because of American railroads and oil companies, as well as entrepeneurs like Phineas Banning who built the harbor. It has comparatively little to do with a contrived, romanticized hispanic history that started with the establishment of a pueblo in 1781
lov'em.
KABC, John and Ken Show, May 1, 2006
Comments by Fox 11 Reporter Tony Valdez.
[Listen to audio here]J&K: Lets check in with Reporter Tony Valdez who has a question:
VALDEZ: Well, I don't have a question so much as a reminder to these gentlemen. You know, if you remember, we had a concept in this country which was, manifest destiny. It was some sort of notion that the United States had the right to occupy land from the Atlantic to the Pacific.
Now there is a group in Los Angeles that's called Culture Clash. And they do some very interesting things, satirically and with comedy. And one of the things they say is, "We didn't cross the border, the border crossed us." So, what I would suggest to these gentlemen, and anyone else who is watching do, is to look at your own history, 1846, and see how the United States of America invaded the country of Mexico, how the United States countries wanted to go into Texas and bring slavery to Texas and the Mexicans who would not tolerate slavery, said no, get out.
J&K: And so people living today have to pay for the sins of 160 years ago? ...radical
VALDEZ: They should also think about California where the same sort of thing has happened. Here in California there is a monument to the Mormon Battalion, the great heroes who killed a lot of Mexicans, enough Mexicans
J&K: There's a statute of limitation on this stuff.
VALDEZ: ... so that this part of the world could be taken by force, by force by the United States. Today, the same government that runs this country tries to strike down countries like Iran and Iraq, and so on and so forth, who invade other countries, and yet, this very same country, the United States... [unintelligible]
J&K: There's got to be a statute of limitation on old history. It can't effect our day to day lives.
VALDEZ: ....it's very convenient for you to do that, I say with respect, but nevertheless -
J&K: Well, what do you want us to do?
VALDEZ: But nevertheless, you took this country, you killed people to take this country for yourselves.
J&K: That's crazy. That's nuts. A report from Aztlan, there.
Thanks for transcribing. Valdez changed it from the U.S. government to "yourselves." He was specifically attacking John and Ken because there are Anglos. He slipped, but he revealed how he feels.
Well done with the transcription.
And bump for publicity!
Yep, Tony started out with "We had a concept in this country." At that point, he was an American. They he told John and Ken to "look at your own history." He ended with how the white guys, John and Ken, killed people to "in order take this country for yourselves."
You're welcome. Thank you, for posting this (and the other thread).
You can hear the venom in Valdez's voice for the "countries of the United States." It was a bit hard to understand the parts where they were talking over each other, but I think I got almost all of it.
The 'Culture Clash' website he mentioned (and I linked) has a photo of Che on the homepage. I didn't look any further.
Thank you for the transcription!
You're welcome!
BUMP!
Hot Air is currently experiencing server difficulties due to extremely high usage. Until the situation is resolved, the front page is all that will be shown.
Hey DFU! Wonder if the commies are trying to shut down MM's site>?
Nice work with the transcription.

Back in those days you actually had to win your wars if you wanted to keep all your land.
VALDEZ: They should also think about California where the same sort of thing has happened. Here in California there is a monument to the Mormon Battalion, the great heroes who killed a lot of Mexicans, enough Mexicans
That's how they made heros 150 years ago. Not my rules.
VALDEZ: ... so that this part of the world could be taken by force, by force by the United States. Ridding the world of an evil tyrant like saddam is a favor to all nations. Iran has called for our and Israel's destruction more times than you have brain cells.
VALDEZ: ....it's very convenient for you to do that, I say with respect, but nevertheless -
Thank you.
VALDEZ: But nevertheless, you took this country, you killed people to take this country for yourselves.
I never killed a sole. You're nuts.
