Video: Iraqi Terrorists Toasted by AC-130
Navlog.org
Posted on 05/02/2006 8:36:27 PM PDT by Paddlefish
This is remarkable film footage. This is a night vision movie from Iraq, showing live action against Iraqi insurgents. The pictures were taken from an AC-130 Specter gunship two and a half miles from the target. The guys in the picture are setting up a roadside bomb and planning to ambush an American convoy which followed a short while after the pictures were taken. They were setting up the ambush and were pacing off the distance from the bomb to where the convoy was to pass by.
Turn your sound up. The level of effort these Specter crews put forth to control the enemy's antics is commendable, and their marksmanship with those electronically controlled 40mm cannons is astounding.

Wow, this is an incredible look at what the soldiers really experience. I get the feeling this is an old video, but probably worth looking at again.
To: Paddlefish
Your feeling is correct. This video was, like, the first thing on the internet
ever.
Still fun to watch, though. ^_^

This is is an Apache that takes them out, not a C-130. It is in Iraq and I believe that it was 2003.

Seen this long ago, but thought it was an Apache.
Looks like a chain gun from a helo to me. Also, the angle looks lower.

I heard on the Prager show; the Terrorists are often of Nationalities not of Iran; like a high percentage. Has anyone heard this? So, it's not that important to me, but they may not be "Iraqi" per se. Anyone correct me if I am wrong.

Could somebody get this posted on one of the Al Quada web sites? It might give them pause to think about the brief nature of a career in terrorism.

Actually, when AC-130s engage it's targets , it can shoot from a good distance and circle around it's targets for hours.
These terrorist probably didn't even hear the plane near them.
This is the only way to negotiate with terrorist.
To: Straight Vermonter
That must have been cool getting the AC-130 to hover like that. They just tilt the wings .... oh, that's a harrier. They could fly straight up and sit sideways.

Sorry, but maybe some of us just "old, old".,-} But I hadn't seen it and it seemed to be fairly recent on navlog.Don't apologize for the posting. It's a great video clip and if people have seen it before, they don't have to watch it and/or read or post to the thread. There are a lot of people that need executed in this world, but a re-post on FR is not enough to earn that punishment.

To: Paddlefish
Beside the hovering that it could not do, if this was a C-130 the rate of fire would be many times that of what was shown....it's an Apache gunship.
Also, a C-130 would be over kill when looking to observe and take out small groups.
The neat part of this video is how it shows how accurate the auto controlled fire is.
To: Paddlefish
I thought this was from an AH-64 Apache, and not an attack against the former Iraq Army. There are several stories on this.

Actually, when AC-130s engage it's targets , it can shoot from a good distance and circle around it's targets for hours. These terrorist probably didn't even hear the plane near them. Yes, but the "hovering' comment refers to the fact that the camera's platform is obviously relatively motionless.
While AC-130s can maintain "focus" on a single target indefinitely as well, videos of the action show a significant amount of rotation in the camera angle, as the AC-130 flies a large slow circle around the target in order to keep the gun side of the plane facing the target area. Even over just 30 seconds or so, the "turning" of the target relative to the camera is apparent, but no such rotation appears in this particular video.

Yeah, it's been around before, but it's a classic anyway.
Doncha just love the way it makes them just go "POOF", and turn from a terrorist to a smudge on the ground in a couple seconds' time?
There are certain movies I can just watch over and over, and this is one of them.

goo after just one round.
