Did illegals' boycott waken sleeping giant?
Valley Press . ^ | on Wednesday, May 3, 2006

Among the mostly fawning news coverage of Monday's "Great American Boycott" there was footage of a protester with a sign that said, "The sleeping giant is awake." Despite its oxymoronic syntax, the sign may have been far more prescient that the bearer realized. We don't believe the open-borders crowd can in any way be described as a sleeping giant. It's pretty vocal, whether it's gigantic or not, and it always gets tons of favorable media coverage.

No, the real sleeping giant is the American people. Sold down the river by both political parties and a federal government that steadfastly refuses to protect them, millions of Americans have had enough.

Can we just take a moment and be real here? Have you stopped to think how preposterous it is to come here from another country for a better life, find that better life complete with free health care and education, then make demands on this country? Think about it.

It's like breaking into someone's house at the dinner hour, sitting down at the table and complaining because the food's not tasty enough

They got Tony Valdez going, but I don't know about a sleeping giant.

Traffic was terrific, there were no uninsured drivers on the road in numbers. The emergency wards were not packed for the first time.

They showed us the benefits of them leaving IMO.

I think most of the country tried to ignore the border problems. They knew they weren't too happy about it, but let someone else worry about it.

Thanks to the illegals' bitching parade, they did awake the sleeping giant. Most reasonable people think exactly what the article is saying. Their reaction is, "What is wrong with these people? Go complain to Mexico! We didn't cause your problem."

Maybe we should get a few million people into Mexico and march on THEIR capitol. Demand that they create jobs, social security, better schools, and health care for the illegals. Then see what happens.

No, but Michelle Malkin suggests we all start responding to RNC letters asking for donations by sending them a "Bush Peso" or Cero Dinero that you can find at Michelle Malkin's Reconquista 101 post.

We can only hope, I'm afraid. I don't think too many minds were changed by the demonstrations. My take is that "normal life" post-these-demos will be "quieted down" and the sheeple will just be happy to have their gardeners etc etc, the whole issue will die down, and all the illegals will be given nothing-down, no-payment-for-three-year mortgages, subsidized 3/4 point by US taxpayers below the prevailing market mortgage rate as long as they can prove they are not citizens. It's a sickening, sarcastic thought. (SST)

Wrong analogy. Its like a stranger (albeit well-behaved) complaining they're insufficiently waited on, there's insufficient prepared food for their liking, or that there's commotion about their coming and goings throughout the homeowner's abode. The gall of these people (we used to live here before you did by the way).

Take that analogy to its logical conclusion: the homeowner asks just how long the stranger will continue to arrive unnanounced for supper, and then the stranger becomes offended when water is served with the meal as a result of austerity measures (or because family members exclaim the stranger is "such a side-hog") while everybody else is waiting their share of the meal.

Me-thinks that's a better analogy.

I grew up in El Cajon, near San Diego. Mexicans aren't a security threat to this country! LEGAL immigration of arabs from Bosnia, Croatia, Yemen, Nigeria, etc... are a clear and present threat to our nation. Arabs are benefiting from our economy and sending money, earned here, to organizations that seek to destroy us! That's outrageous!

I believe the Democrats are just creating a triangulation issue with the immigration crisis (they'll say and do anything to win). No matter what stand the president takes.. he's wrong. I say nationalize the Mexicans who are already here. Let's delay some of those arabs waiting to "legally" immigrate. Additionally, I say we impose a regulation that prohibits immigration from nations that don't allow Americans to immigrate there.

Sorry but you just made ignorant statements about mejicanos.

They are a treat to our way of life, our safety, our laws and to our national security. Its a good thing you lived with them for a time; not all of them are a treat.

Since I don't have time to argue, I wil go ahead and tell you that I am hispanic, and know the mexicans a lot better than you. There is a organization called 'not in our name' headed by hispanics who came from other countries or whose parents came from other countries, who are speaking against illegals, and the danger. They, as well as I, do not want our children and grandchildren to live with bars in their windows and doors, nasty dirty streets, high crime, etc.

It's bad enough already with local crime; we do not need to bring more to our shores. You need to do some serious research.

Drivers licensees are not a right but a privilege in this country called the US.
We are told by illegal immigrants that citizenship and a US passport are now their rights.
Some strange and foreign law interpretation between Drivers Licenses and US citizenships.
These foreigners did call for boycotting of "gringo" US companies both in Mexico and the US during their May first mass protests and citizenship requests.
Enforcement of entitlements without fulfilling legal prerequisites is a new and foreign interpretation of meeting laws which up to now call for earning these US citizenships.

I will not consider the giant awakened until:

1. The protestors, who do not have legal rights or citizenship here apologize for the tone of the recent protests or face immediate deportation, prison or death.

2. The leaders who organized this anti-American activity are in prison for attempted treason.

3. The government is forced by the law-abiding citizens of this nation to secure the borders!!!

Otherwise, consider the battle lost.

I have been waiting for this "awakening" to happen. Lots of very busy quiet people are very angry over the nerve of these protestors who think they should be allow everything- even the ability to vote.
In Reno on monday, a group of protestors was on one side of the street and a smaller group of burly guys in Harley Davidson t-shirts was on the other. The burly guys had signs that simply said "GO HOME". The protestors didn't cross the street to conflict with them.

Negative. I lived in Imperial Beach for 5 years. I lived less than 2 miles from the border. Mexicans are a security threat... they threaten the security of individuals every single day by dealing drugs, committing violent felonies and bringing a culture of corruption that ignores the law to our country.

I agree with you about the Democrats and the need to filter arabs who come here, but illegals are a threat to our social fabric and our union. Twenty five years from now our children will be debating how about the best way to deal with the armed hispanic separatist movement in the Southwest.

Rewarding them with an instant free pass sends exactly the wrong message to those on the other side of the border.

Awesome. Id' like to see shirts that say "GET THE HELL OUT!"

BTW, on Saturday I had my car detailed, and when I got home I put a great bumper sticker. It says "I'LL MOW THE DAMNED LAWN MYSELF" with a crossed-out Mexican flag. Under the flag it says simply "No Illegals".

Say this to an illegal or fellow traveller, but in order to make it truly effective, you must say this to them, in their face, in Spanish:

If I were to sneak into Mexico,

Si you fuera a Mexico illegalmente,:

set up residency there,

establicara' residencia alla,:

slap a USA flag bumper sticker on my car,

si pondria una calcamonia de la bandera de los Estados Unidos en my carro,:

and then demand the government there

y despues demandaria que el gobierno alla:

issue me a driver's license

me diera una licensia para manejar:

what would the response in Mexico be?

cual seria la respuesta en Mexico?

This will hit home. If they can look you directly in the eye and lie to you, or attempt to evade the question, slug 'em. If they give you the honest answer "Oh, you'd be beaten up, arrested and unceremoniously dropped into the nearest carcel (jail)," then thank them for their candor on the subject.

My $0.02. YMMV.

And claim they're "oppressed," to boot. Once that claim is made by a people from the third world, whether or not the claim is true, and especially if their "oppresors" are "the white man," the game is over -- guilt-ridden leftists automatically flock to their "cause" like flies to dung and determine that cause to be a sacred one. Then the PC machine cranks up, the race pimps go to work, and the situation soon becomes virtually unmanagable.
