Imagine you're a US Senator. A citizen has just suggested that the CIA Director and named FBI agents merit the death penalty as much as convicted terrorist Zacarias Moussaoui. Do you:
A. condemn such an outrageous comment? B. move on to another topic? C. congratulate the citizen for making "an absolutely accurate point"?
If you're Joe Biden [D-DE], the answer, incredibly, is 'C'.
Here's how it went down. In a 'Hardball' devoted to reactions to today's jury decision giving life in prison to Moussaoui, both Rudy Giuliani and Biden had expressed regret that Moussaoui hadn't been given the death penalty, in light of the fact that he knew but failed to disclose the 9/11 plot.
When 9/11 widow - and harsh Bush administration critic - Kristin Breitweiser appeared, she had this to say:
"I would appreciate someone asking either Senator Biden or former Mayor Giuliani, if their standard for death [penalty] is withholding information from the FBI that could have have prevented the 9/11 attacks, how then are we excusing FBI agents Maltbie and Frasca who were accused or allegedly accused in the Moussaoui penalty phase itself of being criminally negligent with regard to giving a FISA warrant. How would you explain George Tenet who withheld information about two of the 9/11 hijackers for 18 months from the FBI, information that certainly would have gone a long way into preventing those attacks? And I'd like to know where are we drawing the line here, what is the threshold, and why are we not holding those types of people in our own government accountable?"
Chris Matthews offered Biden a perfect 'out': "Senator, is there a criminal intent there, or do you see a distinction between the behavior of public officials and Zacarias Moussaoui, who's just been sentenced to life?"
Biden shunned the life-line that Matthews tendered. Apparently intent on pandering to the most virulent of the Bush-administration hating left, Biden enthused "I think the juror, er, the family member, makes an absolutely accurate point about people not being held accountable." He went on to draw a distinction between criminal negligence and criminal intent, though it was not clear whether he was referring to the US officials or Moussaoui, since he added "I'm not second-guessing the jury here."
Bear Biden's performance in mind when, during the course of the 2008 Dem primaries, the MSM describes him as a 'moderate.'
Hardball/NewsBusters plug-your-ears ping to the Today show list.
Good catch, governs.
Kristin Breitweiser just suggested that the CIA Director and named FBI agents merit the death penalty as much as convicted terrorist Zacarias Moussaoui.
This isn't the first time Biden has engaged mouth before brain and he considers himself presidential material, what a joke.
"I would appreciate someone asking either Senator Biden or former Mayor Giuliani.....
A little disingenous from the beginning of her comment. Why did she lead in with "I would appreciate someone asking," when she had every intention of asking them herself?
Her mind is bent alright. I thought she was getting her head together when Curt Weldon was trying to get the Able Danger situation exposed. I really thought she was coming around about six months ago.
I wish she would get wise, she's not doing her husband's memory right acting as she is.
I DID see the part when he was talking about how he thinks MOW SOW WEE will be treated by "red blooded American criminals" in the prison...but, didn't stay for that part...
Biden is just a _________. (can't say it or I will get banned).
Brietweiser has been a media whore about this since the day it happened...and THAT is why Chrissy always picks her...she is always good for a good Bush Bash...
With all due respect, I don't think you read this: "if their standard for the death [penalty] is withholding information from the FBI that could have have prevented the 9/11 attacks, how then are we excusing FBI agents Maltbie and Frasca?" She went on to make the same point about Tenet.
But even Matthews was apparently shocked by her suggestion that Tenet and the FBI agents were as guilty as Moussaoui. That's why he offered the 'out' to Biden, which he largely spurned in his rush to pander to Breitweiser.
Oh, I'm glad you saw this, Txsleuth. She's a real piece of work. And I mean that in the worst possible way.
Unbleeping believable
This IS her life: the forever bereaved 9/11 widow who expends her energy (safe in her $4 million insurance settlement and government payment) getting to the bottom of the attack that took her husband's life.
She will be doing this years from now, no matter how sick and tired the rest of us get of her antics.
"...if their standard for death [penalty] is withholding information from the FBI .... how then are we excusing FBI agents Maltbie and Frasca ...How would you explain George Tenet who withheld information ...where are we drawing the line here, what is the threshold, and why are we not holding those types of people in our own government accountable?"
The whole premise of the question is, why aren't these others who "withheld information" also up for the death penalty?
Not just 'withholding information'.
I bet this woman has never even heard the term 'drinking from a fire hose' or thought about what it means.
I don't know how long a journey that was from her pre-911 condition, but it's still sad to see.
Thanks for your clarification. There is absolutely no doubt that, as you detailed, Breitweiser's point was that by the standard for the death penalty that Giuliani and Biden had established, Tenet and the FBI agents were as liable as Moussaoui.
Kristin Breitweiser doesn't hate Zacarias Mousssaoui. She said so today when idiot Matthews asked her. She doesn't hate this turd, but you could tell by the venom in her voice, she most certainly hates George Bush.
She spent most of the interview venting. She instructed voters to seek revenge in the November elections if their congress(wo)man doesn't agree with her. She threatened the administration if they don't release the secrets they've kept because Moussaoui's trial was ongoing. Now that the trial is over, congress better hold the administration accountable for 9-11 or else, was her tone. She's relieved, not because a man compliant in her husband's murder has received his punishment, oh no, no mention of that. She doesn't seek revenge from this man, so far down the totem pole, is how she described him. She's after George Bush and George Tenet and the FBI.
Why haven't the big fish been caught, she asked. We're no safer today than we were on 9-11, she said. And who's fault is it New York City doesn't have the required radios? You got it....George Bush.
She's an irresponsible, self-serving camera hound, and you could tell, she's been waiting for this day. Chris Matthews has too, and he was happy to lead her on to even more outrageous statements. I think Matthews considered getting Breittweiser a real plum. Shame on him for exploiting her.
Shucks, I had almost forgot about Breitweiser. Almost. :-)
Mo1!!! I have missed you today....Bahbah and I have been having just a two person conversation on the Senate thread...
This woman suffered a tragedy, but like Cindy Sheehan she is using that as license to create more pain for more people, and spread more disinformation. Their personal pain doesn't stop them from speaking Lies to Power, but it prevents the good guys from nailing them for spreading lies and calumny, out of a misplaced sense of compassion.
Hairball is going to be replayed in about 5 minutes...I am going to watch, I think (my stomach might not be able to handle it...LOL)
It's totally disheartening to realize what a bunch of complete jackasses we have in the US house and senate. When will the people of this country ever say enough and throw them all out?
I wonder where the rest of the "Jersey Girls" are???
When I saw Breitwieser out campaigning with Kerry....I knew then what a "media whore" she had become...then I saw her testify in the 9/11 commission hearings...and even a few regular hearings in the Congress..
And she was totally snippy and hateful...and LOVED the spotlight.
I just listened to the intro to Hissy's program and Biden's name was not mentioned.
If I had lost a family member on 9/11 the way she did, and then proceeded to act and say the things she's said, they WOULD come back to haunt me until my dying day.
One 9/11 family member just said on FNC she was proud of our country TODAY (with the emphasis on today, as though she's been ashamed of it) and said "no more bloodshed".
Honest to Pete, we've so sensitized people that they want life in prison for jihadists now. I am going to go and spend time with Mr. Peach outside and sip a glass of wine. I need it :-)
Let the record show that I'm not accusing Biden of advocating the death penalty for Tenet or the FBI agents. What Biden's guilty of is the worst kind of pandering.
When those loathsome words came out of Breitweiser's mouth, Biden's instinct, instead of condemning them, was to praise the women for making an "absolutely accurate point." If people catch the replay now coming on, you'll see that Biden was in such a rush to get his words of praise out that he first fumbled, calling Breitweiser a "juror" before correcting himself and identifying her as a family member.
I suspect she was like that pre 911
Trust me, he does come on. It's actually kind of funny, when Matthews brings him on, he says to him something along the lines of "we're going to have to limit things to the Moussaoui trial today." Biden said something in response along the lines "no problem." It seemed clear that Biden had been booked to tout something else, but he was delighted to be on in any case.
Democrats such as Biden know they have to suck up to people suffering from Bush Derangement Syndrome.
guess I'm harsh, but Breitweiser and the Joisey Goils lost my sympathy a long time ago. I don't know that she dishonors her husband's memory or not .. don't know what his thinking was, if he was as whacked out as she... can we stop this nonsense about all the people killed at the WTC being 'heroes' .. they were not. The firemen and policemen and many who worked there were, but not all .. many just weren't able to get out and were victims, but not heroes.
Correct me if I'm wrong. Wasn't Tenent prevented from giving the info to the FBI because of the wall Jamie Goerlick had thrown up? Where is her anger at that or that she was allowed to sit on the 911 commission?
LOL, I was womdering when one of these liberal pundits was going to break out the scumbag "Jersey Girl" again.
Arizona Carolyn gets the kewpie doll.
Congrats, you officially know more about this situation than a sitting (balding) U.S. Senator. I wish that was more of a compliment.
The incessant partisanship of these Dems is truly nauseating. Jamie Gorelick should be as well known to Americans as Tom DeLay or Scooter Libby, but she did a lot worse than whatever it was they supposedly did, so she must be protected, I guess.

Caution, don't read it on a full stomach.
Hmmm, it appears that the Biden segment will not be part of the replay. His name has not been mentioned with Breitweiser, instead it is that unctious BenVeniste who they say will be on.
I think some of Biden's hair plugs infected his brain and turned him into a dumb shi* senator from a two bit state where corruption is the way of life. He, like Matthews, suffers from lack of respect for themselves, and they are like maggots attaching themselves to whatever garbage floats by such as the professional widow who hates President Bush so much. Why even report on this crap? It isn't worth reading about.
I guess they can and do edit the replay. Maybe Biden read this post and begged Matthews to drop the segment out of mercy ;-)!
I don't know...he has on Ben Veniste now...and it shows a LIVE in the corner.
I wonder if they cut that part with Biden and Breitweiser...
OOPS, there she is...no Biden.
She's back on again ----
I hope you are watching the replay. Breitbrainless says that we should really be prosecuting these 3 other terrorists in our custody but we probably don't dare because of our "interrogation techniques", i.e., we tortured them and now we are afraid to let them speak. BenVeniste repeats this calumny. (Pulling out hair)
I would not be the least bit surprised. If he wasn't thinking (nothing new there), his handlers were.
I wonder who made the decision to cut Biden's segment???
BTW...we know what he was originally scheduled to talk about...he should be grateful the decision came down this afternoon....LOL
Schmucky just agreed with Isikoff, Matthews and Brietweiser, that Cheney on down do NOT want them on trial because of the torture we put them through..
But, Schmucky seemed rather sorry for them being held this long....pffffft
