School Soda Ban •Major Soda Brands Agree to Halt Sales to Public Schools The nation's largest beverage distributors have agreed to halt nearly all soda sales to public schools, according to a deal announced Wednesday by the William J. Clinton Foundation. Under the agreement, the companies have agreed to sell only water, unsweetened juice and low-fat milks to elementary and middle schools, said Jay Carson, a spokesman for former President Bill Clinton. Diet sodas would be sold only to high schools Cadbury Schweppes PLC, Coca-Cola Co., PepsiCo Inc. and the American Beverage Association have all signed onto the deal, Carson said, adding that the companies serve "the vast majority of schools." The American Beverage Association represents the majority of school vending bottlers. The deal follows a wave of regulation by school districts and state legislatures to cut back on student consumption of soda amid reports of rising childhood obesity rates. Soda has been a particular target of those fighting obesity because of its caloric content and popularity among children.

I'm so glad to hear this. For so long I've had trouble with that money just jumping out of my pocket into my kids lunchbox. When he gets to school he wants to buy juice or milk but that evil Soda guy forces him to buy a regular Coke. What a releif that things are going to change.

Actually this is great news! I'm sending my kid to school with a couple of cases to start a black market.

I saw a blurb on this last night....and my jaw dropped to see the William Clinton Foundation attached to this....

First of all....how is he making money off this deal??

Second of all....I thought this was America, freedom of some choices...

A teenager girl CAN choose to have an abortion, according to Clinton...but, NOW Clinton is going to keep her from choosing a Diet Coke over juice????

Not to worry dear stock holders of soft drink companies ... those same companies agreed to this because they will make MORE MONEY selling the water they bottle!

The amount of control people are willing to give up to government is amazing. Even small things like what refreshment we may consume are controlled.

"My kid is a fat slob and it's all your fault!!!" syndrome coupled with typical spineless pandering by our "leaders".
When I went to high school, not all that long ago, we had Coke machines. We also had this large room we went to 2x a week to do physical activity. Sometime we even...went outside, to run!!! in a circle!!! for no reason whatsoever.
/sarc off

Hillary says that the village will only sell you water. Some of it will be colored. I suppose that she will now step to the podium and say how grateful she is that the industry is concerned with the health of our children and that it has always been her goal to provide healthy food for our children in our schools.

The village is saved!! It's all about the children!! What a farce!!

The trial lawyers are going after Big Sugar using exactly the same tactics that brought them billions of dollars from Big Tobacco.

Wow. Thank goodness for the NEA and the DOE! I'm glad that our public education system has given up entirely and been replaced with the public nutrition and sexual perversion training system. It's certainly a relief to know the students will be skinnier after they aren't taught anything!

While these people's education panacea is nutrition, our local school district is absolutely convinced that class scheduling is the magic bullet.

check out what Bubba is up to now!

Democrats, the party of small ideas. Do they really think that soda alone is what makes these children fat?
