WASHINGTON - President Bush said Thursday that America's history is inexorably tied to prayer.

"At decisive moments in our history and in quiet times around family tables, we are a people humbled and strengthened and blessed by prayer."

Bowing his head many times as Christian and Jewish leaders offered prayers, the president thanked those who pray for him, calling it the greatest gift a citizen can offer him.

Gadzooks! Where's the ACLU -- isn't there some violation of separation of church and state in there? (sarcasm)

Can't wait for the liberals' reaction to this one. They will no doubt say that he defamed America.

One thing I like about Bush is his deep Christian faith.

I think this is a good idea.

I myself pray for elected officials who will protect our land and enforce the law. Forgive me for being a dreamer.

Can't wait for the liberals' reaction to this one.

The will probably say something like, "god damn it!" Which arguably is also a prayer.

Bush was careful to also honor those who choose not to pray, or join any religion. "We are a people united by our love for freedom, even when we differ in our personal beliefs," the president said. "In America, we are free to profess any faith we choose, or no faith at all."

Great idea. On the "National Day of Prayer", let's pander to people who don't even pray. If Clinton had made this comment at a prayer even in the White House with religious leaders, FReepers would have gone ballistic. President Bush makes this comment and, I predict, only a few FReepers are even going to notice.
