I guess the first statement was the "trial balloon," huh?
Does anybody know if there IS an "Ambien sleep-driving" defense?
No doubt this is the version that got the best score in the polling tests...
Apparently there is. Dr. Manny talked about it this morning. But he mentioned that if that was true, then the police were negligent--they should have gotten him to an emergency room because they couldn't have known whether or not he was having a stroke or something more serious like that. My husband remarked that they probably didn't do that because they smelt alcohol on his breath, and sure enough, apparently one of the officers did report a "boozy" smell.
Lately there are anecdotal reports of people binge-eating
while taking ambien, but people can do lots of things
under the influence of the "sleepers" of all
chemical persuasions. So it would not be ruled out.
But he needs proof that he had Ambien
"on board"..I would guess that a good analytical lab
could measure out "nano" amounts from a tissue sample.
Sounds like the Kennedy's have a drinking and functioning
problem. Camelot is gone, substituted by "The days of
wine and roses"
Ambien and similar sleep drugs can cause unusual behavior, such as sleep voting, and can impair memory later. And it certainly can cause a person to be impaired while driving. But you know, impaired is impaired. He almost hit a Capitol Police cruiser then wrecked into a barricade and was clearly disoriented. That's impaired. It doesn't matter if it was Ambien or Jack Daniels.
