...he tried to make Russia go dry...

You are kidding? I did not know that! What a moron. So that is why the Russian submariners drained the alcohol from their torpedo tubes and drank it!

Dick Cheney reminds me of a vice principal.

Bush gets the job of going out and making the admin. look good and professional. Calls the shots. Is about leadership.

Cheney is the one that does the dirty work and has to get nasty from time to time.

I just wish Bush would get nasty more.

If I was Bush during a cab. meeting I would be like "none of your jobs are safe, Ours is serious business. I expect nothing but the best, and if your best is not enough, I will find someone else".

That is the Bush we need. I know he has it in him somewhere.

From Alcohol in Russia:

In 1985, Mikhail Gorbachev, the newly appointed General Secretary of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union, instituted a large-scale anti-alcohol campaign. Within a few years, as the Soviet Union was collapsing, the campaign faltered and eventually gave way to a rapid rise in consumption, fuelled by widespread illicit production, on a massive scale.

To conclude, he was an utter moron.

Regards, Ivan

Cheney IS right.

HOWEVER, the U.S., under Bush I, should have had in place an economic "Marshall Plan" to provide financial and economic assistance and advice to Russia and to the newly liberated eastern European nations.

But Bush I was too busy running around, trying to shore up a teetering empire and telling people like the Baltic States and Ukraine that they should get along with the Soviet EMpire in its death throws.

Blame Bush I for the fact that commies like Putin have managed to sneak back into control in Moscow.

Ronald Reagan accomplished the impossible and tossed his successor the ball, and Bush I fumbled.

["The speech caused outrage in Russia, with some senior figures accusing Mr Cheney of trying to undermine Mr Putin before the G8 summit in St Petersburg in July."]

Well, then, Mr. Putin needs to understand to stop usurping the US policy with Iran.

Now, two can continue to play this game.

you must be confusing Russian women with Ukrainian women. Sure some are Ford agency material but venture from the touristy areas or the M.O.B. sites and even the young ones look like Babushkas...

ukrainian women, OTOH, are another story... dated one in college.. pretty smart too..

This is MSM's knee jerk reaction to something either the President of the USA says, or the vice President of the USA.
Reagan said a few things about the old Soviet Union that made the MSM said that would escalate things even more, but, we know how history played out.
What does the MSM say when the communist say things to the USA that would escalate things ?

" He's just waiting for a weakness in America before he and his new friends in China pounce on it. "

And they don't see any weakness in Cheney for telling it like it is.

["Cheney is the one that does the dirty work and has to get nasty from time to time.

That's his (Cheney's) job.

Bush's job is to motivate and inspire people (namely in Congress because that's ultimately where the power really is) to carry out his agenda.

“America and Europe want to see Russia in the category of healthy democracies, and yet opponents of democracy in Russia are seeking to reverse the progress of the past decade,” he said. ==

The "democracy" in Russia is just a freedom for corruptioneers and damn oligarkhs to steal at will. No more.

If Al Gore had said this as VP, he would have gotten blow jobs from all the "freedom loving" lefties around the world. Just shows they don't give a crap about helping the Eastern Bloc and never did. They will take the side of anyone against Republicans.

Does Putin have any choice? Is the choice for Russia authoritarianism or a "free" society dominated by corruption and chaos?

And those are just the measureable curves. Go down south and they take it up a notch as they have much warmer hearts, kinder and gentler in the land of Ukraine.

Seems like this. Russia looks like asian country here. The Freedom in Russia always is more like anarchia.

Putin has gotten a pass for too long. Russian troops need to leave Georgia, Moldova and stop supporting Lukashenko in Belarus.

I agree completly. Cheney nailed it.Russia has to be kept in check. They plan to use Gazprom as and energy weapon against Europe to exert political influence. Russia has always been on the wrong side of history.

I don't think that. Russia uses Gazprom to become rich. The rich Russia will be influential automatically.

If Russia supplied by cheap gas some contries in past it doesn't mean that she will do it in future. Especially when those countries arenot friendly. Let them pay more nad more to Russia and help her become richer.

Gazprom and Russia will try to raise prices of energy above all. That is true russian policy. "Milk away all them". It is capitalism.
