MAY 5--Here's the official Capitol Hill Police report on yesterday's early-morning crash involving a disoriented Patrick Kennedy. According to cops, the Rhode Island Democrat (and son of Senator Ted Kennedy) appeared unsteady on his feet, had red and watery eyes, and had slightly slurred speech upon exiting his Ford Mustang after crashing the vehicle into a barricade near Capitol Hill. The reporting officer checked off a box indicating that Kennedy was under the influence of alcohol and that the politician's ability was "impaired." Kennedy, 39, has denied that alcohol was involved in the 2:45 AM accident, claiming instead that he was left disoriented by a reaction to the prescription drugs Abien, a sleep aid, and Phenergan, an antihistamine. Both drugs carry warnings that alcohol, taken in conjunction with the medications, may increase drowsiness and dizziness. Following the accident, Kennedy was driven home by police, who did not administer any field sobriety tests to the six-term congressman. (5 pages
Either way, it would have been better to call a cab!
...thus allowing him "plausible deniability", which will give him the chance to deny, deny, deny, over and over again until the people he supposedly represents have forgotten about it.
This kind of news always seems to "leak" out on a Friday for the DIMS. I say "leak" because the effort to "hush" the story up is deafening.
The apple doesn't fall far from the tree.
I'm kinda hoping Cynthia McKinney jumps into the fray. If nothing else it would be fun to watch.
"...claiming instead that he was left disoriented by a reaction to the prescription drugs Abien, a sleep aid, and Phenergan, an antihistamine."
Good grief! If this is true, I'm sure if he followed directions, he would have known that he should not have been driving or operating machinery when taking these drugs. I mean, the Abien is meant to make you SLEEP.
This is all either a crock, or this is a Kennedy with an IQ of less than 0.
"Either way, it would have been better to call a cab!"
A cab is too safe. Kennedy's crave risky, stupid behavior.
What I don't understand is EVEN IF it were pills, that is still DWI.
My father was convicted of DWI for having a heart attack while driving and they found Xanax (prescribed to him) from the PRIOR night in his system.
Either way, he was driving while intoxicated, that is ILLEGAL. If they let Cynthia McKinney (which we all know they will) get away with her crap, and now Kennedy his...
Then we will know we have reached the Lords and Ladies days again. The Barons can do as they will.
One of the terms I heard being floated was "sleep-driving."

Not unless she would have the opportunity to call someone involved a racist.
hyannis orcinus was quoted as saying "this wouldn't have happened if he was driving an oldsmobile."
I can hear him now: "I wasn't drunk! Drugs and alcohol are a baaaad mix."
At that point, we're all supposed to drop it, wish him well, and never mention the fact that he should be going to jail.
At least he didn't kill anybody. Or if he did, he got rid of the body quick enough to avoid further problems.

"Excuse me, now. I have to get back to work for the American people."
ping ping ping

Um. yeah...and he probably inherited it from Ted -- isn't that how his vehicle ended up in the drink at Chappaquidick?
No way. I really believed that he was rushing to Congress for a critical floor vote at 3 in the morning.
Now she has the right to say the police was racially motivated!... Why the INCONSISTENCY she should ask? Hummmmmmm? ":)
The apple doean't fall far from the horse's arse.
Must be nice to be above the law. These cops should be fired.
This morning on Good Morning America, they lead off with the "Curse of the Kennedy's." Perhaps if he was gunned down by an insane person, I guess I could understand. But getting pie eyed, three sheets to the wind does not constitute a "curse." What they should have lead off with was "Rehab for the Kennedy's?"
The subject was blasted out of his socks
One of the better posts I saw this morning was, "If I was a Kennedy, I'd probably drink, too."
Speaking of Cynthia McKinney, has she been given a pass? We haven't heard doodly squat about pending charges or if there is anything going on with her at all.
Because he is admittedly Bi-Polar... No wonder America thinks there is something wrong with the Congress....It is @#$%ing Crazy.
Abien,Phenergan,Jack Daniels?Sounds likely??
This guy was clearly drunk and/or stoned on something. If he doesn't tell the complete truth about what happened, this will only happen again in the very near future.
He drives himself because he doesn't want anyone to see him in
such a messed-up condition or know where he's been or where he's going.
He's 39 years old. I was 39 when I stopped drinking. I'm clean 7 years On 6/1/06. The guy better come clean and get clean before he kills someone.
Drunks have 3 choices:
1) Sobered up.
2) Locked up.
3) Covered up.(with dirt)
Congratulations! We have a winner!
I think most Kennedys are defined as "Imbeciles from the Planet Paste-Eater."
Where is that race card? Shouldn't they be saying that if this had been a black person, they would have him in jail right now?
Please hold off until we have all the facts. I understand the Dems are investigating whether there is a video of Karl Rove moving the barriers and holding a "vote here" sign.
and David Gregory was called immediately - /s
Seems he's just trying to follow in Daddy's footsteps.
Wonder what vote he thought he was going to be making? Not just at 3AM, but what vote, what bill, what piece of legislation did he have in mind that he HAD to get to the Capitol to vote on?
Shame that no one has asked this to watch him stammer and hem and haw his way through that convoluted explanation.
Like your Mom asking, "So, what movie did you see?" when you were out drinking with your buddies and lied to her about where you were.
I have heard that some people have actually done that.
This morning on Good Morning America, they lead off with the "Curse of the Kennedy's."
****
Typical of the mainstream media. They fawn all over the Kennedys. And everything that happens to any of them relates to this alleged "curse;" not that they are reckless and irresponsible.
Kennedys - still doing public DISservice.
Or what about that CIA traitor, has she been arrested?
Another FReeper phrased it as "The olive doesn't roll far from the martini glass".
True that!
"...Hic! (stagger).... and I wan the people, hic, of Rhode Island to lissseen to me. I did not hab SIX, hic, wif tha wwoomaaan, er ah, hic...hic.
Was your father driving himself to the hospital? Did the cops actually stop him while he was having the heart attack? Did they get him to the hospital?
Why is this the strangest post I've read all day?
If Patches was black, he would have been arrested.
That's enough for her.
The cover up is going to worse than the crime. LOL
I don't drink, much less drink and drive, but I wonder if I got pulled over under the same set of circumstances if I wouldn't have gone to jail and lost my job. I guess when your last name is Kennedy in this country you can get away with murder--and one did.
This claim can no longer be disputed. Kennedy has openly admitted that he was under the influence of drugs. His statements can easily be used in court to secure a conviction for DUI.
In my state, it doesn't matter if you're impaired by alcohol, narcotics, sleep medicine, prescription drugs, or lack of sleep. Driving while impaired - especially crashing while driving while impaired - is a criminal offense and you will lose your license, be fined, and potentially do jail time depending upon the severity of your recklessness. I don't know if being a Kennedy would matter much this far out west. If he'd done this in Phoenix, I'm sure Sheriff Joe would have the Kennedy in stripes at his tent city jail before you can say Mary Jo Kopekne.
"Er ha, tha woman, Miss Chevas
Phenergan is some really strong stuff. My hubby's a big guy...6'5", 265 lbs...and one dose of Phenergan knocked him solidly on his arse for a full day. That was the first and last dose he'd ever taken...he decided throwing up was preferable.
Do they make congress take random drug tests? Almost every other employer does. I think we really need to test these people!
