WASHINGTON - CIA Director Porter Goss has resigned, a senior administration official said.
President Bush, who has been making staff changes at the White House to reinvigoriate his second term, was making another personnel announcement Friday.
Bush's new chief of staff, Joshua Bolten, has made several changes since taking over last month.
Recently, longtime Bush adviser and confidant Karl Rove had the policy-making portion of his portfolio taken away so he could focus on the midterm elections and White House press secretary Scott McClellan announced his resignation. McClellan has been replaced by Fox News commentator Tony Snow.
McClellan's last briefing at the White House was Friday. His last day isn't until next week, but the president is traveling in Florida the first part of the week, meaning that McClellan will be briefing on the road.
Rove was allowed to keep his deputy chief of staff title, but was stripped of day-to-day oversight of policy coordination. That job was given to Joel Kaplan, Bolten's former No. 2 when he was budget director.
Bush also named Rob Portman, a former six-term Republican congressman from Ohio who now serves as U.S. trade representative, to replace Bolten at the head of the Office of Management and Budget.
The vacant job of domestic policy adviser has not yet filled.
Other changes that have been expected included changes in the White House lobbying office run by Candida Wolff and the expected departure of communications chief Nicolle Wallace, whose husband recently moved to New York. Officials have also done little to discourage speculation that Treasury Secretary John Snow is leaving.

He probably wasn't playing nice enough with the commie staffers at the CIA, so Bush got rid of him.
I really thought Goss was doing the work that needed to be done there. I'm disappointed by this news.
I doubt it...Bush has been at war with the CIA since day one.
I'm wondering what dirt the CIA bureacracy dug up on Goss.

Goss was put in there to fix the problems with the agency.. he apparently was not doing his job if info was leaking 3 years after he went in.... part of the problem good riddance... Good change for the administration...
I wonder if this is related to the rumors of a prostitution ring linked to Duke Cunnungham as reported in the Washington Post last week. I surely hope not.
I nominate former Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Richard Myers to replace him. Anybody second it?
This makes me wonder if Goss is going to be implicated in the Duke Cunningham hooker scnadal. Some lefty websites have been pushing this, saying that while Goss was in Congress he was one of the pols who was entertained by the contractors who bribed Cunningham.
This is very surprising news.
No, genius, if anything, he wasn't playing rough enough and will be replaced by someone tougher.

Maybe this is just a prelude to a wholesale re-organization of the intelligence business. The CIA's performance has been pretty miserable over the past two or three decades.

he's probably gittin' while the gittin' is good... CIA Directors have unusual lives and some unusual endings as well.
Besides when that nest is finally deloused, I wouldn't want to physically be there or at the State Department, it's gonna get awful messy. Negroponte will be the go to point man were that to occur, hopefully.
Porter pushed the boulder over the edge, now we'll see where it goes.
