If there are still Clinton hold outs after what seems a purge, there must be mighty few.

If this is true then Goss did his job and the next phase can begin with a new director.

I think it is possible that he ws sent in as the hatchet man and someone else will begin anew to get this agency under control.

25,000 down, nicely done.

I watched the same show and I think you misunderstood. He said the CIA was cut from 100000 to 75000 under Clinton and Goss was building it back up.

Thanks Porter.....thats 25,000 Clintoonian affecionados that will not form a fifth column to commit espionage and sedition against the USA.

Maybe they will run for office instead of trying to make policy as civil servants!

Atta go Mr. Goss. A medal you deserve!

I watched the interview and heard the same thing you did--that the personnel drop occurred under the Clinton administration and that Goss was in the processing of rebuilding.

Employment drops on Goss watch.
Let me repost this:

FRANK GANNON: Do you think there was or could have been a CIA conspiracy to remove you from office?

RICHARD NIXON: I don't know. I know many people think so. I would say that I had found it difficult to understand why the CIA which apparently had advance knowledge of the break-in didn't inform me. I found it difficult to understand how it could have been that at least two of those involved had CIA connections and never the less it was not brought to my attention as far as the break-in occurring. I must say too, the CIA had motive: It was no secret that I was dissatisfied with the CIA, with its reports and particularly with their appraisals of Soviet strength and our other problems around the world.

FRANK GANNON: Did they fear you?

RICHARD NIXON: No question about it and they had reason to. I was going to shape-up that organization and the Defense Department and the whole government for that matter, but particularly that one, on one occasion I said we could cut a third of the people out of the CIA and do a better job...

I said we could cut a third of the people out of the CIA and do a better job...

You could cut 1/3 of the workforce of any civilian federal agency and do a better job.

Those numbers sound waaay high. I know it's classified (duh) but a quick Google of CIA employment yielded hits more in the 15,000 - 20,000 range. 100,000 people is a lot of people, even for a gummint agency.

the number of employees at CIA dropped from 100,000 to 75,000 during the Goss tenure.

Could this be the number of Langley analysts who were told that they had to do a rotation in the field as an operative. Resignation or retirement probably looked better to them than actually doing something dangerous. Excess desk jockeys are probably so angry that the Bush Administration wanted them to work far from all the right parties in DC.
