Rep. Patrick J. Kennedy said yesterday that he is entering treatment for an addiction to prescription medications, an announcement that comes as police continue their investigation into a car crash involving the congressman near the Capitol.
Calling his addiction a "chronic disease," Kennedy said he does not even recall the accident, which occurred early Thursday and raised questions about his behavior and how U.S. Capitol Police deal with members of Congress.
The congressman's office has said Kennedy (D-R.I.) was disoriented behind the wheel because he had taken prescription medication to calm stomach inflammation and to help him sleep. No one was injured in the crash, but Kennedy almost hit a Capitol Police car head-on before slamming into a security barrier, authorities said.
Kennedy, 38, said yesterday that he has been battling problems with addiction and depression since he was a young man and that he will seek immediate treatment at the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota. He was a patient there during Congress's winter break, he said, and thought he had returned to Washington "reinvigorated and healthy."...."

Kiss the Senate goodbye Patrick. Another Kennedy implodes.

Kennedy: (1) "I didn't ask the police for any special treatment; (2)"I don't remember a thing that happened." Good example of cognitive dissonance.

Where was wifey?
Would he have gotten treatment for his 'disease' (addiction) had he not gotten caught?
Did he publicize his treatment over the winter break, and if not, why not?
This clown needs to take responsibility for his actions.
Every single word of his press conference today was aimed at passing responsibility onto either the disease, the drug, a stomach ailment or some type of day-to-day stress.

Now ya think some hotshot prosecutor is gonna spend a bunch of taxpayer money looking at "Doctor Shopping" here?
Nah.... they only do that when a famous Conservatives is involved.
Not that I am excusing Rush. To tell the truth, I have never felt the same way about him since he admitted his addiction.
I hold Conservatives to higher standards.
Nobody expects good behavior from a Liberal. Hell, there entire philosophy of life is built around tearing down standards, eliminating morality, breaking things loose so nobody has to feel bad about anything.
That's why the Left is so positively gleeful about things when a Conservative gets busted.
Inside they are jeering, "See, Conservatives are just a bunch of hypocrites! They do the same things we do."
It's obviously not the case because the sheer numbers of Conservative vs. Liberal cases comes down so strongly on the Liberal side, but because Liberals have never pretended to any sort of real morality. It's almost as if they claim some special virtue by being frank about their degeneracy.

He still denies being drunk, although two bars (so far) have said he was drinking there that night.
To: ozzymandus
I saw that too. The media will take the clinic explanation and let that go, but Kennedy is screwed as far as a Senate seat goes.

Probably queer.
38 years old, money to burn, a Congressman and no woman in his life?????????? We know the media would help hide it.
Whatever his sexual preferences - fact is he is a liar.
He isnt sorry for his addiction, he is sorry he got caught.
Funny he didnt even realise he had an addiction till he ran down a concrete barrier.
To: Anti-Bubba182
If he has to take a drug that causes him to lose his senses, he should not be a legislator. Will he know what he is voting for?

Whatever his sexual preferences 'for what it's worth', a few yrs ago, read in a FR thread 'bout Howie Carr(sp) of Boston radio, mentioning that some of "Patches"' assosiates used the H word; but his boozin/druggin priorities might also simply limit his sexuality....

nah, he won't. He's not a Republican.
To: Anti-Bubba182
Calling his addiction a "chronic disease," Sure thing, buddy. Popping pills, washing it down with a few beers, and smashing your car into a construction barrier is no different than catching a cold.
Acting Capitol Police Chief Christopher M. McGaffin declined requests for comment yesterday. He told Roll Call, a newspaper that covers Congress, that managers had made mistakes in judgment and that "significant" administrative action has been taken.
I'm sure the "training" involved chastising the guys for getting caught and coaching them on how to cover their butts next time. In the eyes of the brass, the only thing they did wrong was getting caught.

Most reports indicate that Kennedy is entering Rehab for treatment of addiction to "PRESCRIPTION PAINKILLERS".
But phenergan and Ambien are not "painkillers" and the accident happened as a result of side effects, not addiction to those drugs.
Pain killers are not part of the treatment of either of the conditions that Kennedy acknowleges having, i.e. depression and alcoholism, and addiction to painkillers requires a substantial and steady source of pills.
Hmmm! Sounds like a clear case of obtaining prescription drugs under false pretenses. I wonder how far that investigation will go.

The very first thing that came out of Kennedy's yap to the
POlice was that he was rushing to get to congress "To Vote"
One of the coppers reminded him that congress had shut down a few hours before his crash...
Next thing two POlice Sgts show up ...take over and tell all the cops to take a hike...
Kennedy's next statement...."I can't remember anything" It was the sleep meds"...(he takes sleep meds goes to a bar then drives on them)...
His next job he can run for Attorney General of WI (driving on pills and alcohol seems to be a requisite)...and he can crash a tax payer owned vehicle after 'bar time' instead of his Mustang.
Sign into Mayo quickly...put on a good show for the cameras..
imo

Legacy of Lying with the whole Kennedy family pissing on the public and the MSM assuring everyone that it is raining.
Kennedys - Proud sponsors of the Michael Skakel Celebrity Golf Tournament and the William Kennedy Smith Sadie Hawkins Day Barhopping Marathon.
This little extra bit wouldn't fit in my tagline.

Kennedy is screwed as far as a Senate seat goes.I wouldn't be too sure about that. PK has been an ongoing addict since he was a cocaine snorting teen and yet RI keeps sending him to DC as their rep. However, and a big however, there goes Big Daddy Ted's last dreams of seeing PK as a Kennedy president.

That is Science fiction if he ever believed that. Kennedy is just a name outside of the east coast and I think PK is toast as far as the Senate goes. He is to big a public addict.

I simply do not remember getting out of bed or being pulled over by the police I believe this much of his statement because he was probably never in bed, and the police didn't pull him over .... he crashed into a concrete barricade. The rest of his statement was simply self serving BS.

The media will take the clinic explanation and let that go, but Kennedy is screwed as far as a Senate seat goes. Why would you think that? The kind of people who would elect him as a congressman would have no qualms about electing him as a senator, and if by chance they wouldn't, he could always move home to MA, they'll elected anything with the name Kennedy there.
