Chavez for Tyrant in 2006!
To: marron
"Chavez should have been sentenced to life in prison for his original coup attempt, but populist politicians tried to use his popularity for their own ends. They tried to out-Chavez Chavez and wrecked the country doing it, and paved the way for the real thing."
Exactly! History repeats itself (though the details always differ). Castro got away with an unsuccessful coup attempt in the '50s..... Both Chavez and Castro should have been locked away for life (better yet, executed) when they tried to launch a coup. Imagine how much better the world would have been in the past 47 years if Castro had never had the opportunity to try again. Now we have the scumbag dictator Chavez who has been allowed to get away with everything and only major military force can stop him now (not expecting that in the forseeable future, but the only way he's going is if the USA takes him out).

I'm sure Jimmy Carter will bless that!

He will only give up control over venezuela's oil revenues at the point of a gun. So he might as well just make it official and end the pretense.

Chavez to the opposition:
"Play fairly and legally," he said.

seek "indefinite" re-election Is this any different than our congress critters? Time for term limits IMHO>

Dear President Bush:
For God's sake, what is the use of being a superpower if you can't shoot dead a socialist tyrannical loudmouth like this one?
Yours sincerely, Ivan, United Kingdom

Old age ain't slowing down ol' Fidel.
Been there 47 years and counting. Think about it.
To: MadIvan
Pat Robertson, a Christian broadcaster, suggested the same thing a few months back. He was vilified in the press, and forced to apologize. He was also right about Hugo Chavez.

The 19th century was the high point of Western civilisation in many ways, not leashttp://www.timesonline.co.uk/global/t in the defence of its own values. Had Chavez been mouthing off like this in 1886, the West would have sent the marines and blown his head off with a large gun.
Now that we're so touchy feely and PC, what happens? We suffer because we have to put up with this nonsense. The people of Venezuela suffer because they're living with this idiot. The rest of South America suffers because of his example.
It was much simpler and much more humane to go the 19th century way - if there is some savage creating a problem that is creating misery and impeding civilisation, shoot him!

Years ago there were many Freepers who said that this would happen sooner or later, wonder how long it will take Bolivia's Morales to follow along?
As reported on a spanish speaking channel (I think it was from Peru)There seems to be some irritation building between Brazil and Argentina with Chavez and Morales trying to take over as leaders of South America.
To: MadIvan
You Brits have some pretty good spec ops. Of course South America is our area of influence, Chavez is our responsibility. But together we could start whacking some of these raving physcos. There are more than enough to go around.

I'd be delighted to pay a "Chavez surcharge" in my taxes if it meant we could eliminate him. Socialism is like a zombie that has to be whacked over the head with a shovel, lest it climb out of the grave once more.

Hey! I was just about to say that :-)
Fit me for a tinfoil hat if you will, but I still say this is the first step toward tyranny!
