Scoop on Coop: His ratings droop (CNN/Dinosaur Media Extinction Alert)

Journo's never drawn auds in like predecessor
The Anderson Cooper media bandwagon continues to defy logic, and ratings gravity.
It's been nearly a year since Cooper was anointed CNN's youthful savior and given Aaron Brown's primo 10 p.m. timeslot.
Since then, he's been TV news' media darling, most recently gracing the cover of June's Vanity Fair.
But Cooper's stellar media masks an inconvenient truth: He's never achieved the ratings of even his predecessor.
CNN sacked Brown believing Cooper could draw a bigger, younger audaud at 10 p.m. But that hasn't happened. And the VF cover hit just as April ratings showed Coop down 36% in the 25-54 demo, the younger aud he was supposed to attract.
Brown averaged 307,000 young viewers a night last year. This April, Cooper averaged 198,000. In total viewers, Cooper averaged 710,000 compared to 907,000 for Brown last year.

Only in liberal America would you have a magazine that named itself Vanity Fair.
Then I saw in my dream, that when they were got out of the wilderness, they presently saw a town before them, and the name of that town is Vanity; and at the town there is a fair kept, called Vanity Fair. It is kept all the year long. It beareth the name of Vanity Fair, because the town where it is kept is lighter than vanity, Psa. 62:9; and also because all that is there sold, or that cometh thither, is vanity; as is the saying of the wise, All that cometh is vanity. Eccl. 11:8; see also 1:2-14; 2:11-17; Isa. 40:17.
This fair is no new-erected business but a thing of ancient standing. I will show you the original of it.
Almost five thousand years ago there were pilgrims walking to the Celestial City, as these two honest persons are: and Beelzebub, Apollyon, and Legion, with their companions, perceiving by the path that the pilgrims made, that their way to the city lay through this town of Vanity, they contrived here to set up a fair; a fair wherein should be sold all sorts of vanity, and that it should last all the year long. Therefore, at this fair are all such merchandise sold as houses, lands, trades, places, honors, preferments, titles, countries, kingdoms, lusts, pleasures; and delights of all sorts, as harlots, wives, husbands, children, masters, servants, lives, blood, bodies, souls, silver, gold, pearls, precious stones, and what not.

Is this the viewers that Keith Olberman picked up? Bet it is.... Brown was very liberal and droll -- sort of like Olberman; most of the time Anderson is pretty likeable and when I get sick of listening to H&C fight I switch to see what Anderson is doing that night (H&C are opposite Anderson in the late night rerun)..

First comes Bunyan, then comes Thackeray...
"Though the name Vanity Fair comes from John Bunyan's Pilgrim's Progress, Thackeray uses the concept in a very different way from Bunyan. For Bunyan, Vanity Fair comprises all the worldly activities which distract the Christian from salvation and lead to damnation; they are vanities for this reason. At risk is the Christian's immortal soul.
The phrase "vanity fair" came to mean "a place where all is frivolity and empty show; the world or a section of it as a scene of idle amusement and unsubstantial display" (the Oxford English Dictionary or OED ). For Thackeray, everyone lives in Vanity Fair or society; vanity has become the desire for society's approval and rewards; the individual seeks, not spiritual salvation, but the rewards of this worldsuccess, status, and wealth. "

If the shoe fits...but still the same thing is at risk, even if people try to pretend it away...

Outstanding news!
So sad for mainstream propagandists. They groomed Anderson Cooper by forcing him on high school students in the '90's on Channel 1 at the beginning of each school day.

Agreed. Thanks for the reminder. As a sustitute teacher in the early-mid 90's the students in my school district were force fed Channel 1 for 15 minutes at the beginning of each school day. I usually spent the next 20-30 minutes de-programming them and I wasn't even a FReeper then.

TV news is a waste of time. I just subscribed to satellite for the first time, and found CNN to be dreadful. ABCCBSNBC is similarly pathetic. PBS wouldn't be so bad if it weren't for its left tilt on the news. I got Fox News for free for while, but it's not worth paying extra for.
It's much better to read the WSJ and check out headlines on Google or Yahoo.

I did a lot of channel-surfing during the news coverage of Hurricane Katrina. I thought Anderson Cooper and Shepard Smith both acted like teenage girls. I can't stand to watch either one of them now.

My tagline agrees with you and points out the obvious reality for all of the MSM: "There's a dwindling market for Marxist homosexual lunatic wet dreams posing as journalism!"
Hopefully, the owners and controllers of the dying MSM never figure this out and the simple math of never angering the 62 million people who voted for GW in 2004.
