Peretz´s First Mission as Defense Minister: Destroy Outposts 10:19 May 08, '06 / 10 Iyar 5766 by Hillel Fendel
Only one day into the job, DM Peretz has already set one of his main priorities for the coming months: the destruction of Jewish outposts throughout Judea and Samaria that have been deemed illegal.
Brig.-Gen. Kamil Abu-Rokon, the head of the Civil Administration in Judea and Samaria, informed the Supreme Court Sunday night that he has a plan underway to map out all the unauthorized outposts, with an eye to their destruction. He said the goal is to complete the list, and a destruction schedule, within four months.
The Civil Administration has already begun mapping the outposts, some of which are full-fledged communities. These include Migron, near Psagot, with 43 families, Givat HaRoeh opposite Eli, with 17 families, and Givat Assaf, situated at a critical junction between Beit El and Ofrah, with 14 families.
The Administration's list of outposts will define the level of legality of each one, as well as how many structures it has, the classification of land on which it is built - state-owned, disputed, etc. - and more.
After the mapping is completed, a precise schedule and plan for the destruction of the outposts is to be prepared, Abu-Rokon reported.
The work will slightly overlap that of Talia Sasson, the attorney in the State Prosecutor's office. Sasson prepared last year a history of all the outposts, with emphasis on the ways in which government ministries "closed its eyes and enabled" the establishment of the new settlements.
Abu-Rokon appeared before the Supreme Court in response to a Peace Now suit against two allegedly unauthorized outposts - Haresha, a part of Talmon, and HaYovel, adjacent to Eli. Peace Now has set as its goal the erasure of every point of Jewish settlement in Judea and Samaria, except possibly the Old City of Jerusalem and several others.

Civil Administration to present outpost demolition plan
In response to Peace Now petition, state reveals it has begun mapping illegal structures in West Bank, within four months working plan for their destruction will be presented to political echelons; Peace Now skeptical: Defense Minister must keep promise to raze outposts within one year
The Civil Administration revealed late Sunday that in recent weeks an initiative has been launched to map all illegal outpost structures in the West Bank. When the mapping is complete, a plan for their demolition will be presented to the political echelons.
With that, on Sunday the IDF finished sealing off the Beit Shapira house in Hebron, from which three families residing there with invalid
documents and dozens of teenage activists were evacuated in the morning. Border Guard forces were deployed to guard the house to prevent settlers from attempting reentry.
Recently Peace Now petitioned the High Court of Justice demanding that the court order the demolition of six permanent structures build without a permit in the Harasha outpost, and 12 more allegedly illegal structures in Hayovel outpost in Binyamin.
The State Prosecutors Office responded to the petition saying that the Civil Administration had begun comprehensive mapping of all illegal outposts in the West Bank territories. The mapping was expected to take about four months, after which a working plan for the outpost demolition would be presented to the government, they said.
Furthermore, in response to the petition it was noted that the Civil Administration was working vigorously, in particular against illegal construction being started on private Palestinian-owned land.
The administration is holding weekly meetings, along with IDF commanders in Judea and Samaria, in which they discuss cases of illegal construction by Jews and Palestinians, and issuing demolition orders against the structures, the prosecutor's office said.
Peace Now Secretary General Yariv Oppenheimer responded to the government activity with limited enthusiasm. Despite the declarations, the defense minister is not setting a goal date to evacuate the outposts, so the statements must be taken with a grain of salt. Defense Minister Amir Peretz must uphold his promise to clear all the outposts within one year, Oppenheimer said.
the Peace Now types would have been profiled by the Nazis as ideal kapos
