Aeroflot picks Airbus over Boeing
Big News Network.com Monday 8th May, 2006 (UPI)
Russia's flagship airline Aeroflot will buy 22 A-350 aircraft by 2014 from Airbus SA, a setback for rival Boeing Co.
Aeroflot plans to spend about $3 billion on the long-range commercial jets, which compete with Boeing's B-787 aircraft, MosNews said Monday.
It was believed that Aeroflot would chose Boeing because its B-787 is more fuel efficient and will be available sooner than the A350. However, in February Airbus offered Aeroflot a $100 million discount if the Russian airline chooses A-350 aircraft.
A source in the Kremlin told MosNews that, in addition to the Airbus discount, Moscow has been irritated at the United States' position on Russia's accession to the World Trade Organization.

Someone told me a few years ago that the Airbuses are not safe. If that's true, well Aeroflot just got what it paid for.

the anti-us sentiment among the parties involved will return less profit (therefore unavoidable failure), and safety issues for passengers. the left is alive and kicking it seems

Wow, what a surprise. I wonder how much Airbus paid in bribes to win the deal.
Now Airbus has to deal with Aeroflot. The Airbus air safety rating will go down for sure.

This is nothing more than a cheap slap in the face by the Russians. They chose to put their passengers at risk, and pay for much more fuel just to make another cold war political statement. It's their loss.

This is another one of those times where we need to make more investments in duct tape. The Airbus depends on duct tape!

Zzzzzzzzzzzz
The only orders for the A350 are "political" orders.
I'm sure after flying in russian planes all those years, they will all feel right at home in Airbust planes.
