Some recent ratings news no doubt gladdened the hearts of Fox News Channel haters.
First, Nielsen Media Research reported that Fox News' overall prime-time lineup dropped 17% last month compared with a year ago (MSNBC grew 16% during the same period, while CNN plummeted by 38%).
Late last week, a reliable television industry website, TVNewser.com, reported that in April, Fox News host Bill O'Reilly had his worst month in nearly five years among viewers age 25 to 54, the most coveted audience in TV news.
Although the network still churns out ratings light-years ahead of competitors' and O'Reilly remains cable news' No. 1 host, Fox News' explosive growth appears to be, like the president's 90% approval rating in the days following Sept. 11, a relic from the first Bush term.

MSNBC had a 16% increase. 100 viewers to 116, big deal.
Well, I guess it's time to do a gripping story about the occupational hazards strippers endure while using the pole on stage.
...not to mention the stunning drop in circulation of a (I hesitate to use the word news) paper, like the LA Times.
Let us also remember that the CNN 38% ratings drop is compared to one year ago when it was realizing a similar ratings drop from the year before. The two year numbers must be a real topic of conversation around the spot where the reposessed CNN water cooler used to be.
Oh well..stick a fork in Fox News..it's done..over..kaput..latimes wouldn't lie to us..would they??
"the 4am edition of The Factor beat out Olbermanns 8pm show every day."
LoL
Brilliant.
As Fox news swings more liberal, viewers swing away.
When is the LA Times ready for the fork -- getting close.
the 4am edition of The Factor beat out Olbermanns 8pm show every day.
LOLOLOL!!
The writer doesn't understand that it's conservatives who are tuning out Fox News. There's no doubt in my mind that Fox had been tacking portside for the last 12-18 months, which naturally will alienate the right. I'm sure he wants the readers to believe that Fox has become more conservative, thus running off the liberals and moderates. It's a lot like the presidents current low approval numbers. Most of that damage comes from conservatives who don't think Bush is conservative enough. The follow-up to the job approval question should be: If you disapprove, is it because the president has been too conservative or not conservative enough? That is the real story behind the low approval numbers.
Fox News has become very very MSM. If the hosts on Fox News are not plugging their books, they are plugging their radio shows. So I do take seriously whatever the LA Times says on this subject. It is almost Biblical, "Let the dead bury the dead."
Considering the fact that R. Murdock will be hosting a fundraiser for Hillary we may see Fox drop more than a little. There is one thing that some of us dislike more than a
rattlesnake. That is Hillary Clinton. Giving her a bundle of money to run for president would make this household leave Fox in a big way.
How did MSNBC get an increase in viewers? Are their news babes now naked? Let me know so I can unblock that cable channel.
I like Fox, but I find myself changing to other shows because Fox has so much advertising.
What evidence do you have that FOXNEWS is "swinging" liberal? I don't see it.
You unappeaseables are pissed off all the time aren't you?
"The right" is not alienated by FOXNEWS. Only people who want a national news network to agree with everything they think are alienated.
Kinda like the way you people are with Bush: if he doesn't agree with everything you believe, then he's a liberal.
I'd like to see how few viewers a network format you'd design would draw.
SOOOOO TRUE!!! I haven't watched Fox news for over 1 year.
First of all, it's springtime, people have better things to do than watch the news. Moreover, for the all the sound and fury about gas prices and "scandal", there really aren't a lot of political major muscle moves going on right now. It's not hard for MSNBC to "increase" their audience, an additional 5,000 viewers would equal a 100% increase and, BTW, they've doubled the number of weeknight conservative hosts (from 1 to 2).
My problem hasn't been their swing to the liberal - it's been their swing to the tabloid. Those times when I do record O'Reilly or Hannity, I find that I can easily skip about half of each show and that proportion has been increasing. I'm getting tired of every show on the network except Brit Hume constantly covering this week's "crime of the century".
Between Greta being Greta, H&C going tabloid half the time, and Bill O'Reilly's statism FOX primetime is almost unwatchable. And don't get me started on mascara boy who host the 7 pm news.
Gibson, Cavuto, and Hume are the only ones worth watching. And I could even do without the "Weekly Stadard" roundtable.
"The right" is not alienated by FOXNEWS. Only people who want a national news network to agree with everything they think are alienated.
Kinda like the way you people are with Bush: if he doesn't agree with everything you believe, then he's a liberal.

Just WITF are you talking to? It isn't me. Reread my comment Einstein. I was not taking a side, merely pointing out how writers spin facts to suit their beliefs. I personally cut Bush a lot of slack and WOULD NOT consider myself to be one of these conservative zealots who want all or nothing. Next time, don't kill the messenger.
However, the Kool-Aid cooler seems to be still intact.
I rarely watch any political shows anymore since the Hysteria over Illegals and attacks on the President is all they do. Fox is only marginally better than the rest of the clueless pack.
So I watch the White Sox continue their reign as baseball's best team and Freep. Freeping certainly provides far more education that these nitwit laden shows.
I too, am beyond the coveted range. Sniff, sniff.
Since Rupert supports Hillary I suspect that more people will wise up and drop Fox, too. There's no reason to watch stuff that is hours old and incomplete when there are interenet sites that will give you the real deal.
To: sinkspur
I watch Fox News on a regular basis, practically daily.
I've noticed over the last year the same handful of leftist pundits spew the same crap out over and over and over. I get the balance attempt, but despite that, it's like listening to Nancy Pelosi, Ted Kennedy, Harry Reid.
During the 'protests' by illegal aliens, or by every anti-war anti Bush group in the country on behalf of illegal aliens, I could count the number of times on one hand I heard anyone on Fox state, "Democrats prevented the removal of 'felony' from the illegal aliens status".
The gas 'crisis' is another joke ..... typical mantra from the blame Bush liberal cabal. It was not Bush who prevented oil extraction from ANWAR, it was not the Bush administration, asleep at the wheel when Iran and North Korea were secretly implementing nuclear programs. Bush was demonized when he referred to these rogue countries as the axis of evil.
I have not heard on Fox often or loud enough the facts that Valarie Plame is a democratic donar if not an operative or the fact that 'Ambasador' Joe Wilson was proven a liar, and named as such by the 9-11 commission.
During the course of last year, my frustration led me to the inter-net where I discovered many good sites, such as FreeRepublic, and that is where I get my 'News'.

So let's see, Fox News drops 17%, while their leading competitor drops 38%. Which means they have INCREASED their lead in the ratings over CNN. Fox News is still cruising and is the clear cable news leader.
And from Drudge Report today.........
MURDOCH TO HOST FUNDRAISER FOR HILLARY CLINTON
Mon May 08 2006 18:25:16 ET
Rupert Murdoch has agreed to host a political fundraiser for Hillary Clinton this summer, the FINANCIAL TIMES is reporting!
Murdoch's surprise decision to raise money for Clinton in July, on behalf of NEWS CORP., parent company of FOXNEWS and the NEW YORK POST, underlines a dramatic turn of relations between Murdoch and Clinton, who in 1998 coined the phrase vast rightwing conspiracy to denounce critics of her husband.
Some say the move by Murdoch reflects approval of her Senate career, notes FT's Caroline Daniel. Others point to Murdoch's record for picking future national leaders. Last century, he threw over the British conservatism he'd long supported to back longshot Tony Blair.
Clinton surprised Washington and media watchers recently by attending a FOX NEWS anniversary party, where she toasted Murdoch.
Political powerbroker and studio head Harvey Weinstein is said to have convinced Hillary that Murdoch could be a friend, not a foe, in her ongoing political maneuvers.
Hillary has now cornered the NY media market, by winning support from the NEW YORK TIMES, NEW YORK DAILY NEWS owner Mort Zuckerman -- and now Murdoch and the NY POST.

Exactly why I'm channel jumping more than ever these days. Bill O is full of himself and is getting worse every day. Arrogance, book plugs, tabloid journalism etc. isn't doing Fox any favors. I find after flipping channels from FNC to others that I'm staying put on other channels more and more.
I think a lot of conservatives have started listening to radio and turning Fox off. They are swinging left as poll numbers for Bush are going down. Fox also has the problem of turning into Court TV.
I love to watch the winers spin the ratings.
The only fact here is that Fox dominates every day, and has been for years.
Too bad the LA Times won't be around for too much longer...

Please FReepmail me if you want on or off my FoxFan list. *Warning: This can be a high-volume ping list at times.
Amen, Karl! FNC, are you listening...?
dang it...great minds think alike...but yours is faster than mine.
My post 40 will teach me to not "instant reply" when I've read an article.
I like that link and site!
