Kosovo church demolished | 16:42 May 12 | B92, Beta, Radio KiM
Podujevo -- Unidentified individuals have vandalised the Saint Ilija Church in Podujevo.
According to Radio KiM, the attackers dismantled the doors of the church, which is currently being restored, and broke a majority of its windows. Radio KiM Editor-in-Chief ivojin Rakoèeviæ told B92 that the church was set on fire in March 2004, and that the restoration is being financed by the Council of Europe.
During a visit to the church, we noticed that the doors were dismantled and that the windows were broken. Obviously, the attack occurred either yesterday or the day before, and someone changed the glass, but in several parts of the church where this was not possible to be changed quickly, there are still signs of the wreckage. Of course, there is no one there, no one is guarding the church, and the priests left Podujevo in 1999, and since then there have been no Serbs in this town. Rakoèeviæ said.
