One of three "American Idol" viewers believes a vote to FOX's wildly popular talent-search program counts at least as much as voting for president, according to a new survey. Pursuant, a Washington, D.C., research firm, said 35 percent of those polled felt they were making better use of their time voting for the next Grammy hopeful than in a political election. "There is something about people who felt maybe their vote in the last elections didn't count, but with 'American Idol' . . . [they're] hoping to propel someone to stardom," said Melissa Marcello, president of Pursuant.

figures.
That's what the movie - AMERICAN DREAMZ was in effect saying.
Apparently there seems to be more truth to the parody than we expected.
Now let's just talk those who answered that way NOT TO VOTE, at all for anything!
This article is dated May 03.......
Good. It's keeps the Hollywood idol worshiping types away from the important ballot boxes! This isn't really a bad thing.
While I agree that the average American voter is a dolt (or at least horrifically un- or under-informed), we must acknowledge the level of citizen frustration with our Government inherent in such voter attitudes.
People really do NOT feel their votes count any longer. Politicians run one way, govern another........from BOTH parties. There is significant "voter fatigue", with most feeling that no matter who they vote for or what party....the result is the same: ever-higher spending, ever greater flaunting of the Constitution, a horrifically bloated Federal bureaucracy that refuses to be cut back, pork barrel projects for the Congressmen's own districts (really needed or not), etc. etc. etc.
That's it! The libs are going to go for the American Idol view of electing a president. 13 weeks, we vote for the nominees via a 900-number or an online voting system and we kick out the least vote getter of the week, until it's down to the final two.
Hell, you don't even need to vote. The MSM will tell you who amongst their polls is the bottom vote getter and they can take care of the first 10 weeks for you.
Yeah, that's the presidential ticket!
Well, I voted for Chris and I'm Conservative.
Explains USACNNGALLUP poll results...seems there is some linkage.
I urge all liberals who feel that their vote in the last election didn't count to give up on the system, do nothing but watch American Idol, and never vote again.
"There is something about people who felt maybe their vote in the last elections didn't count,
These people would be known as moonbats and of course they believe in the power of voting for American Idol. They also believe Bush orchestrated 911 and the mainstream American media has an overwhelming rightwing bias.
Pancake batter is smarter and less lumpy.
This is exactly why America wasn't founded as a true "democracy" as we know it. People weren't even allowed to vote unless they owned property -- i.e., they had demonstrated a certain level of responsibility and demonstrated that they had an obvious stake in the actions of the government.

Coming soon to the 2008 presidential campaign: Pick me! Pick Pickler!
but did you vote 50 times?
Me, I'm rooting for Taylor.
To tell you the truth, if someone sits around every week voting on that crap, I don't want them voting for the President.
No offense to any reasonable, conservative AI fans out there--I'm sure there are some, and I have my "guilty pleasures", too...
The dumbing down of American has been accomplished. We are defeated.
Rabble rule ping!
Seems they made a mistake here in the shows name. Should be "American Idiot".
Hey, I agree. We are a self-inflicted wound. Everyone is worried about their pocketbook and piece of turf. Screw the rest of the country. Damn the Republic. They don't care. 9-1-1 is a foreign now as the war between the states. 99% of Americans don't care anymore. They have, "moved on."
Well I voted for Taylor ,he's cool!!
And seriously, is somebody who votes in "Idol" going to want the rational candidate or the one who 'feels your pain' anyways? Somehow, I just don't feel like this is a big worry for political consultants.
Correction. Politicians run one way and spoiled petulant voters throw a hisser fit when they cannot get 100% of their personal political agenda implemented today by those pols.
We got exactly what GW Bush promised us. Tax Cuts, Conservative Judges, a serious smart war on Terror a serious sustained effort at real Social Securrity reform, Partial Birth Abortion ban, etc etc etc. For Conservatives that Bush glass was never more then about 60% full. Now when their emotional political whimsy is not instantly gratified due the messy nature of Politics in a Constitutional Republic, these same "Conservatives" rant about the "GOPS Betrayal of the Base".
Sorry NO one ever gets 100% of what they want the second they want it anywhere in life. It is stupid and childish to demand it in Politics.
This is another example of the spoiled brat outlook of most Americans. They simply cannot envision being part of anything larger then themselves. They simple freak out anytime politicians don't do what they WANT the second they want it.
Sorry real life is turning out to not be what TV and Hollywood promised you America. Get over it.
That doesn't surprise me, but just how many of those polled can even VOTE in a Presidential election? Do you have to be 18 to vote on American Idol?
mark for later read
Sounds about right with the gloom and doom drive-by media hammering down our lives daily. It's hard to blame them for tuning out completely.
Now you are demonstrating much in common with the American Idol fans. 90% of the base is not "Sick to death" The fraction of the base DUMB enough to not actually understand politic is. It seems to be the same 1% of the base that voted for Buchannan in 2000.
NO ONE has double dealed you. YOU merely assumed that your every political whimsy and day dream was going to be granted you if Bush won. Sorry real life doesn't work that way. We are a Constitutional Republic, NOT a Presidential Dictatorship. Your every whimsy cannot simply be imposed for you by Presidential Diktat.
That was a very foolish assumption on your part. NO one EVER promised you that. There has been NO betray or double dealing. YOU have seriously nonsensical expectations of what can and cannot be done. Sorry reality is not a TV sit com where your every political whim can be granted today with no effort or bother. Grow up. Politics has never, and will never, work the way your fantasy life does. Learn to live with it.
I know waste of time trying to teach real life to the Politically Irrelevant 100%ers. They would rather mindlessly scream the latest slogan fed them by their Pet Talk Radio hosts then ACTUALLY get some things done in Washington. Another example of how stupid the average American has become. Terribly ironic that this bit of political stupidity is daily demonstrated here on Freeper by the same posters who endlessly whine about "Stupid voters".
>>>'Idol' Vote Means More Than Presidential Ballot
Well with AI, a single vote could make the difference in who wins. If one lives in a state that is predominately Red or Blue, one vote doesn't carry much weight in the presidential election. A voter in OH, FL and NM will have more potential impact a single voter in NY or MS might have bacause the races in those states are closer and can tip the Electoral College one way or the other.
People have always been dumb. It's just that nowadays they're a lot more vocal.
........(Am Idol) counts at least as much as voting for president,.........
Maybe we should allow the ragheads into this country to brandish their dull knives and kill off the excess American (and Mexican) population.
If the citizens of this country are that totally stupid, we have lost the war, any war, that tries to defend our country and our freedom.
Murtha was right, send all the troops home, so the ragheads can take over, and depopulate and decapitate the stupid American gringos!
I have McPheever....
bump ... unlimited franchise is a bad idea.
Kennedy Crashes Car Near Capitol
Rep. Patrick Kennedy (D-R.I.) crashed his car near the U.S. Capitol, and a police official said he appeared intoxicated. Kennedy said he was rushing to cast what he hoped would be a decisive vote on a matter of great importance.
Kennedy issued a statement after a volley of news reports stirred interest in the crash. "It is alleged that I was involved in a traffic accident at First and C Street SE near the U.S. Capitol," Kennedy said in his statement. "It has not been conclusively determined whether I was in the vehicle much
less driving it. There is no evidence that I consumed alcohol prior to the incident. I'm working with my lawyers to find the truth."
Kennedy's father, Senator Ted Kennedy (D-Mass.) asserted that his son was the target of a rightwing witch hunt. "The same administration that is torturing prisoners of war has set its sights on my son," Kennedy complained. "When
police brought him home he had panties on his head and a dog collar around his neck. This is the Bush MO. I am more determined than ever to see this bastard impeached."
A letter written by a Capitol Police officer Greg Baird to Acting Chief Christopher McGaffin said Kennedy appeared to be staggering when he left the vehicle after the 3 a.m. crash. "Representative Kennedy said he was late for a vote," Baird said. "He kept saying he had to vote for Katharine. But the Capitol was dark and no meetings were in session."
Speculation is that it was Katharine McPhee that the young Kennedy was mumbling about. Ms. McPhee is a contestant on the "American Idol" television show.
Kennedy spent time at a drug rehabilitation clinic before he went to Providence College. He has been open about his mental health issues, including the revelation that he has been diagnosed with "moonbat" disorder.

Hold your horses, ace.
First.......this isn't about GW. So.....YOU get over it.
Second......I sure as all HELL expect someone who runs as a conservative to ACT like one when they get to Washington or [insert your State capital here]. It's those such as you who say "Oh, grow up; politics is a business......take what you can get and get over the rest" who disgust me. You roll over and take it up the a** and act grateful for it.
Not me, pal.
I have to tell you I voted many times for Elliott and Taylor and I am not a democrat or union activist. I just texted my votes, much faster.
