Freepers need to realise that this is the result of the previous Liberal Government and not the current Conservative government.

Very good point. I remember what we went through during the Carter years and how it took 8 years of President Reagan to recover from it. And remember what we went through under Hitlery's "Boy Toy"!
Wherever liberals have power, good men and women suffer.

The new Conservative government is trying to remedy a decade of Liberal neglect. It may take a while, but it's not the fault of the men and women of the Canadian Armed Forces..Bingo....

I wonder if they've give any consideration to Potato Cannons; cheap, environmentally safe (bio-degradeable ammo) and doesn't cause icky wounds.

I don't know how many of these our army needs, but I'm sure it's a hell of a lot more than 8 or 12. I'm guessing a few hundred of them would be in order (not on order, not yet at least - you don't want to rush into these things, but there's not time for an extremely lengthy procurement process, either). There were a hell of a lot more arty pieces at CFB Shilo when I was last there. The Canadians were playing with a German 105mm mounted in an M113 chassis, and the Germans had brought along some Marders and 155mm M109 SP guns.
It was home of both the a regiment of the Royal Canadian Horse Artillery [alas, the horses are long gone] and a battalion of the Princess Patricia's light infantry, who were maybe a little better at calling for close arty support and otherwise working with the Gunners than the average grunts.

Canada is pathetic.
Years of Liberal rule has done this to us, but we've got a real man in charge now:

Canada should build its own titanium guns designed to use the GPS based sights. It should crank out enough to defend all four of Canada's borders, probably several thousand of them. This would allow for the recreation of Canada's now liberal-caused defunct ordnance industry.

LOL, Shoot pigs at moose? Hell, shoot pigs at the Taliban!
The incoming sound would be something to hear, as well as the impact in the middle of the Talabis.

We should be building a lot more of our own kit. I think we should get back into building our own ships for the Navy.

Agreed there in spades. There should be three boat yards in Canada building Navy ships. One in BC, one on Lake Ontario and one in Halifax. Probably subs in Halifax. It would be quite a sight to see a Canadian Built aircraft carrier propelled by a Canadian made "nuklar" reactor. She would have to be able to break ice.

Too bad there wasn't a way to keep the Saint John Shipyard open. They built 9 of the 12 ships in the Halifax class frigate program back in the early 90's.

Yuo , it is too bad, Canada has so much expertise, raw materials and energy. The Navy needs rebuilding, and I hope Harper will set things in motion. BTW the Halifax Class Frigates are sharp looking ships!

All I can say is , "WOW!
The modular assembly is really interesting, because in US shipyards, they still weld the hull plates onto a skeleton, which makes for a rather rusty collection of steel that has to be derusted before painting and final launch.
The sections are obviously assembled under cover and look at how clean they are, NO RUST!
These are being constructed in modular format in the Saint John dry dock?
Thanks for these pics, especially of HMCS Fredericton. When will she be launched do you think?I would love to be there.

These photos were taken when the Halifax class ships were built back in the early 90's. Sadly, the Saint John Shipyard is now closed. Check out my profile for a couple of pics which include HMCS Toronto and Fredericton in action.
