What would a Democratic majority do in 2007?
MSNBC ^ | 5/11/2006 | Tom Curry

Posted on 05/11/2006 8:59:01 AM PDT by Proud_USA_Republican

WASHINGTON - If Democrats win the 15 seats they need to get control of the House and the five seats they need to regain the Senate, how will that change the nation’s direction?

For some Democratic activists outside Washington, the overriding need, once their party regains the majority in Congress, is for them to shift the balance of power away from a president they see as dangerously powerful.

Democratic blogger Matt Stoller said in an e-mail interview with MSNBC.com, “We have policies we’d like to see passed,” mentioning such items as an increase in the minimum wage and “a fix to the prescription drug debacle.”

But, he said, “the key issue for us is checks and balances…. Until Bush is forced to respect the law, policy talk is somewhat irrelevant. The Constitutional crisis comes first.”

With Democrats at the helm of congressional committees, the party can pursue a strategy of investigation and subpoena — forcing Bush administration officials to testify and to turn over documents relating to, for example, the National Security Agency surveillance program.

Read the whole article and look at the breakdowns of what democrats in the house and senate are going to pull, including what waxman and conyers will do:

HENRY WAXMAN, D-Calif. Waxman is considering probes of an array of Bush administration actions, from treatment of al Qaida detainees at the Guantanamo Naval Base to “manipulation of intelligence that has gotten us into Iraq.”

JOHN CONYERS, D-Mich. The veteran of the 1974 Nixon impeachment effort wants the House to create a special committee to investigate “manipulation” of pre-Iraq war intelligence to seek evidence which “may constitute grounds for possible impeachment” of President Bush.

If any of you are thinking about boycotting this falls election because you think the republicans aren't doing what you want, you better think about what's going to happen to this country once Pelosi and crew are put in charge.

What would a Democratic majority do in 2007?

Manifesto of the Communist Party

1. Abolition of property in land and application of all rents of land to public purposes.

2. A heavy progressive or graduated income tax.

3. Abolition of all rights of inheritance.

4. Confiscation of the property of all emigrants and rebels.

5. Centralization of credit in the banks of the state, by means of a national bank with state capital and an exclusive monopoly.

6. Centralization of the means of communication and transport in the hands of the state.

7. Extension of factories and instruments of production owned by the state; the bringing into cultivation of waste lands, and the improvement of the soil generally in accordance with a common plan.

8. Equal obligation of all to work. Establishment of industrial armies, especially for agriculture.

9. Combination of agriculture with manufacturing industries; gradual abolition of all the distinction between town and country by a more equable distribution of the populace over the country.

10. Free education for all children in public schools. Abolition of children's factory labor in its present form. Combination of education with industrial production, etc.
====================================================

Oh wait...they have accomplished most of this already!

It's heresy to say so, but the problems with both parties is why we need a real 3rd party. Not likely to happen though.

create a special committee to investigate “manipulation” of pre-Iraq war intelligence to seek evidence which “may constitute grounds for possible impeachment” of President Bush.

It is a healthy American trait to be wary of the government......regardless of which party is in charge.

Bush has done much to alienate his base.....

I understand why so many people doubt his motives.

Nothing would get done as their "majority" would likely be slim and the GOP might once again start acting like Conservatives and block everything the DNC proposes. So after a couple years of stalemate (a good thing) and political shenanagins by the DNC, the public will have another chance to re-elect a back-to-being-Conservative GOP back into the majority.

The time to protest the GOP is in the primaries. I plan to vote against EVERY incumbent I can.

The GOP is not as Conservative as we would like, but the Dims are NOT even an option.

Conservatives will NEVER control 100% of the GOP, but we must be the majority, and we will have to let the liberal RINOs win occasionally, or they will join the Dims and become the majority. Political power comes from numbers. More Conservatives, more of what we want. More Leftists, more of what THEY want.

Yeah, the reality is that we still have a conservative majority in this country, particularly among Congressional districts. The Democrats are going to have a good year this year, particularly with the White House proving completely resistant to any change or outside criticism, but it won't be a realignment election. Many Democrats elected this year will lose their seats to competent conservatives in future elections.

1. impeach bush
2. raise taxes
3. pass national health care
4. withdraw from Iraq and Afghanistan
5. cut defense spending
6. bend over for the UN
7. ratify Kyoto
8. pass guns bans

A republican majority would take much longer to accomplish all this (except item 1)

Do you really believe there will be a GOP majority with the millions of illegal voters they're allowing in? After all, these people are marching under the banners of Azatlan, ANSWER, WWP, Mecha and they aren't going to vote GOP? Not only has the invasion alienated the GOP base, it's tipping the scales in favor of the democrats.

There won't be enough of us to overcome the new democratic voters even if we all vote republican.

I've never boycotted an election and don't intend to boycott this one, but it seems to me that the Porky Congressional Republicans should have thought about the consequences of their repugnant spending and legislative priorities. The Senate will never ratify an Impeachment even if Conyers gets a majority vote in the House. The Democrat Party will never get a veto-proof majority regardless. So maybe its time for the Repubs to eat a little Humble Pie. It'll be an interesting two years. (:^*)

Two things:

Democratic blogger Matt Stoller said in an e-mail interview with MSNBC.com, “We have policies we’d like to see passed,” mentioning such items as an increase in the minimum wage and “a fix to the prescription drug debacle.”

We have to combat this "prescription drug debacle" lie. People who sign up almost all love the plan. Most aren't confused by it -- and it seems that mostly democrats are confused by it, as it's only democrat congresspeople who get huge numbers of calls complaining. But when asked, the only thing the democrats want to change is to allow medicare to set the price of drugs like they do for doctors, which will destroy the private market for insurance (unless the bill passed requires all buyers to get the same prices as the government).

But, he said, “the key issue for us is checks and balances…. Until Bush is forced to respect the law, policy talk is somewhat irrelevant. The Constitutional crisis comes first.”

I don't remember democrats screaming about "respect the law" when Clinton was in the white house, sending tanks to burn down religious compounds, and shock-troopers with weapons drawn to kidnap a 6-year-old. Or any of the other things Clinton did which abused power, like selling the lincoln bedroom, having fund-raising coffees, allowing secrets to go to China and getting campaign cash, or lying under oath to deny a woman her right to a fair trial.

Is Matt Stolle a "famous" democrat blogger?

Wow. You guys are really spooked what with all this doomsaying and such. Someone said that the democrat's agenda is what's right (obviously thats what they believe) but don't you believe that the Republican's agenda is is what's right? Isn't that some sort of dichotomy? Here we vote for parties not individual candidates, so it's well easy to put a party out of power, especially since we can do no confidence voting. However, our liberal opposition (the Lib-Dems) isn't all that great, but Tony Blair isn't getting any love at all.

In the name of National Security they will stop all "hate speech" over the airwaves and internet.

Guns? No need for them. It's for the protectrion of the children.

Churches? Only the "Enlightened" kind that can see "God is doing a new thing!"

8. pass guns bans- Not likely, but you can bet they would try. Bush would VETO.

If they gain control of the house I see two major trends:

1. Governmental paralysis (which is not all bad)
2. The democrats gaining enough confidence to actually expose their true agenda, which will mean total disaster for them in '08.

Unfortunately one bad thing that will definitely take place is some sort of amnesty for the illegals, given that the house is the only thing blocking it now.

Going down swinging is what I hope all conservatives will do. Simply garanteeing the GOP some votes isn't swinging, it's only encouraging their suicide. Make the GOP work for your vote.

If we look at the 04 election, the GOP won by some 6 million votes give or take a million. If we let some 12 million plus illegal into the country, half of those voting democrat makes an even number. The majority of those votes will end up in the southwest so we can write those states off even with full conservative support.

Even as illegals the hispanic radio stations are encouaging them to register to vote. If we allow the GOP to attempt to pander to these people 40 years out of power is going to be a short stint.

If any of you are thinking about boycotting this falls election because you think the republicans aren't doing what you want, you better think about what's going to happen to this country once Pelosi and crew are put in charge.

Its not so simple.

If you reward elected officials with reelection AFTER they have lied to you, failed in their sworn duty, and have given you reason to believe that the positions which they are relying on to win your vote are fictions to gain office only, THEN what do you think is going to happen to this country, or at least to its republican form of government?

That the only way for the majority to be chastised is for them to be replaced by Democrats is very unfortunate.

But we can't go on like this, with "Republicans" betraying every promise they made to their voters of 1994, and reaping the reward of return to office based on fear of the Democratic boogyman.

If the boogyman comes, we'll deal with him.
