Howard Dean: Democrats Have Much in Common with Evangelicals
The Christian Broadcasting Network ^ | David Brody

Posted on 05/11/2006 6:16:55 PM PDT by george76

Dean said that "one of the misconceptions about the Democratic Party is that we're godless and that we don't have any values."

The Vermont liberal is trying to change that.

Democratic Party Chairman Howard Dean told CBN News that his party has a lot in common with the evangelical community.

Dean wants evangelicals and other conservative Christians to know that Democrats have something to offer them.

"The truth is, we have an enormous amount in common with the Christian community, and particularly with the evangelical Christian community,” Dean said.

But the Democrats’ record on hot political issues such as abortion, gay marriage, and separation of church and state don't match up with that of evangelicals...

The only thing they have in common: they are both mammals.

And what is that? More slogans? Mend it, don't end it? Abortion should be legal and rare?

Since Dean has come on board, he has started a program called The Faith and Action Initiative. It is an effort where the Democratic Party in each state works closely with religious leaders from all faiths to explain how the Democrats’ values are in line with the views of many Christians.

Ah! So THAT explains what he was doing that night in Hew Hampshire (besides screaming):

I think I know what makes a certain segment of the Democrat/leftist community believe they can spew such transparent BS and have it count with anyone.

The left believes that the public is really, really stupid. A big reason they believe this is that they think that "Madison Avenue" and "Big Business" lead the public around by the nose, manufacturing demand for products that people don't really want, hypnotizing them into zombie-like patterns of involuntary money spending. They think that, if it were not for the pernicious hold that "Big Business" has over people, we would all live simpler, thriftier, more natural lives. They think they are the only ones who know this; that the average man and woman walking around are only dupes, tricked into believing the illusion that they posess free will.

Therefore, they believe, they can tell lies that a teenager could see through, and enough people will believe them that it will make a difference.

What they seem unable to accept is this: that, although there are some people who fit that description, this segment of the population already votes Democratic.

They the easily-manipulated ones are on the Right. Who remembers that op-ed piece in the Washington Post a few years ago in which the author opined that conservatives were prone to an irrational belief in G-d and were "easily led." Rush has spoken of it a number of times on his show.

Crazy Howie is just taking this view to heart. He really believes that if he just pays superficial homage to Christians and Christian evangelicals, they'll just nod their heads up and down and troop off to the polls this November to vote the Dems into a majority of the House of Representatives.

Like what, for example? Most Dems have very little in common with evangelical Christians. For one thing, most Dems don't really believe the Bible or the Gospel. They believe the parts they like and toss the rest.

Dean said that "one of the misconceptions about the Democratic Party is that we're godless and that we don't have any values."

On the contrary, they are godless but do have values:
abortion, appeasement, amoralism, and anti-capitalism
are all deeply held values of the base and leadership of the Democrat party.

Just one of the reasons I am now, happily, a
Recovering_Democrat.
