Press release: McCain finds the spotlight once again
Straight Talk America | Apr 11, 2006 | John McCain

Posted on 05/12/2006 11:23:24 AM PDT by meandog

U.S. Senator John McCain (R-AZ) released the following statement:

“I want to assure the American people that the cosponsors of the Secure America and Orderly Immigration Act, and the senators who worked to find a compromise last week that would have won the support of a substantial Senate majority remain totally committed to returning to this issue when the Senate returns from recess.

“The public expects Congress to address comprehensively this national problem recognizing both the vulnerability of our inadequately protected borders and the need to allow an earned path to citizenship for the millions of undocumented immigrants who work here that substitutes fines, civic responsibilities such as paying back taxes and learning English, and a place at the back of the line for the de facto amnesty that exits under our current system.

This is a fair, practical and humane solution to the problem of illegal immigration that I’m confident has the support of a majority of Americans and will have the support of well over sixty senators. In the Senate, no less than in the country at large, the majority will eventually prevail, and we are absolutely determined that it be sooner rather than later.”

McCain is a liar.

But he knows what Bush's weaknesses are, and he goes for them.

McCain-Feingold disqualifies McCain from any consideration by me.

First Amendment forever!

So he's for amnesty and government regulation of free speech? Thanks but no thanks.

Pure BS. McCain is trying to appeal to conservatives, but they will never support him. McCain should be happy to keep his job in the Senate. The South will never vote for McCain.

I'm expecting there will be some pro-lifers who will support him based on his pro-life record, especially if the other likely nominee is omeone like Condi or Rudy. The problem? McCain thinks the First Amendment gives the government the power to squelch speech about itself. There is no way, NO WAY such a person would appoint a strict constructionist, and I guarantee the next prez will be replacing Stephens and Ginsberg if they haven't died or retired during Dubya's remaining years.

Two SCOTUS appointees by a guy who doesn't believe in the First Amendment? I think not.

This is the same crap he's been saying all along, and despite the title that was posted, it's pretty much what Bush is pushing for as well.

Show me where Bush has supported an amnesty bill. He has called for civil debate and a solution from Congress, and he has said we won't be able to deport 12 million people. None of those things add up to amnesty, much less the super-amnesty that McCain was pushing in April.

I'm worried the President will be squishy on this, but there are a lot of people who are acting like he's the leading amnesty advocate in the country, and it's just not true...yet. Maybe not ever.

Earth to McCain....
The number one question I ask is, "Why do you want to be President?" I have no clue why McCain thinks he should be POTUS and neither does he.

To Put This "Amnesty" into Perspective:

I heard an interview last night with a man, woman, and son from the Filipinos -- the man had worked for many years for the US Army before the US closed the bases. He applied for a visa, and waited 9 years before it came.

A year before it arrived, his son turned 21, and his son had to update his application. The man and wife traveled to the US, and left the son, who waited another 5 years for his visa. He couldn't visit his family in the US or his visa application would be revoked, so they had to be satisfied with talking on the phone.

The son fell in love with a girl, but could not marry her or his visa application would have to be updated again and put him back at the back of the line again.

So, when the visa arrived, he had been going with is girlfriend for 3 years, and even had a baby, so he married his girlfriend, filled out an application to bring her, and he traveled to the US. They have been talking to each other over the internet for the past 2 years, and hope that she will get her visa soon.

Moral of the story: people who wait in the US Visa line wait a long time, and it disrupts families ... but they think it is worth it.

Meanwhile, illegals walk over the Mexico-US Border, and the amnesty apologists bemoan how unfair it would be not to grant amnesty to current illegals, how this would break up families if we didn't.

How unfair would it be to the Filipino family, who followed the rules, to give amnesty to the illegals?

If you are a supported of McCain, then you are probably correct in moving to DU.

This is exactly the sort of thing Sen Jeff Sessions was pointing out this morning on C-SPAN 2. These illegal aliens have got to go.

Press release: McCain finds the spotlight once again

That's news? McCain could be locked in safe and thrown down a mine shaft and still find the spotlight. The spotlight will find him because the MSM have labeled him a "maverick".

Well, currently, he's considered the front-runner for the GOP nomination in 2008...betcha he's going to GET a lot of support from folks you may consider hard-line conservatives too! And, if he indeed is the candidate, then you bet your bottom dollar he's going to get my support...and no doubt you and your Pat Robinson-of-a-B/Rush Limpbull ilk will sniff it out because the other candidate will be the Hildabeaste!

He CANNOT win because he CANNOT carry the South. Case closed, no hope for any change. He is HATED here, plain and simple. People would rather let the opponents win than to turn the White House over to a mental train wreck like McCain.

I disagree. First, McCain's family heritage is Mississippi (cannot get anymore Southern than that); secondly, most folks in S.C. were tricked by Bush's Bob Jones University racist push polls into believing lies about McCain (adopted "black"--actually Indian--daughter was his); thirdly, he has support from folks like Lindsey Graham and Libby Dole.

Do you really think that the majority of Southern Republicans give a rat's ass about McCain? We got exposure to him in 2000 and he made such a fool of himself that he was laughed out of the region. His family heritage and RINO friends don't mean poop here. He is a RINO and everyone knows it. He will not win a Southern primary.
