Yeah, but aren't they parking the F-14?

does anyone have any idea why the scheduled F-22 flyover at Barksdale was scrubbed? It wasn't scrubbed. The planes had their cloaking devices switched on and you couldn't see them.

Next gen of air superiority, ground attack fighter will be ground hugging A/C with no pilot aboard.
With probably development of AAA high energy pumped lasers within 8 years, mid altitudes are out. Tactics will be that everyone has control of their airspace above 300 feet, so ignore the air and get in very low and interdict targets on ground that way.
Remember, with accurate GPS, accurate terrain mapping and A/C (without pilots) capable of 20-30 G maneuvers, preprogrammed light at 50 feet, with dynamic change is possible.
Think. 50 feet, 600K. Can't see you, can't shoot you.
FOBS looking better all the time.

The A-12 was never really created. The development was running up costs and the contractor (McDonald-Douglas) was not getting it done. Cheney terminated the program. The case is still in the courts.

At Sun N Fun, in Lakeland Fl. I got a chance to see the Raptor do about 10 flybys then land and you could get up to 10 feet away. WOW

The autoloaders on their tanks required cannon to return to a certain elevation for reload, But gave comrade Kalashnikov the idea for a small calibre autoloader. Which turned into the -47 and the -74.
I mark Kalshnikov's birthdate as well as Gene Stoner's and John Moses Browning's. All good men. Smart.

Yes. the -14 is gone. Guard and Reserves don't even get them.
No one could keep them in the air. 50 hrs/1 hr.
Canon plugs melting.... It was like the F-4 on steriods, with the worst part being... "Hi! we're here"

Automat Kalshnikov Rifle Design of 1947 preceeded the autoloaders a decade.
Also worked on two different principles.
AKs are gas onto piston operated. Tanks were hydraulic rams, into breech with opturation produced by the shell casing and shell casing ejection by recoil operated ejectors.

PS Saw Kalashnikov speak at an NRA event in DC a few years ago. A very smart man. He loved the design process, especially its longevity. Hated what his design had done.

Common AF term for multi-pin aircraft electrical connectors.

Kalashnikov got his idea from tank guns. It's in his story.
Kalashnikov was middle aged during the great patriotic war. The idea he got was not from the GPW.
Gas blowback, yes.

Blowforward. Piston actuated. Field strip with my eyes closed. -47 and -74. But I hate the orange mags,

That's them. I'll have nightmares tonight. Fiddly, pickey nightmares with 28 gauge wires and pin extractors.
Thanks for the pix.
I'm glad to just be a cook now...

The worst part was knowing that if you really screwed up, some arrogant, preening, young punk orficer (who was really good at his job) was going to plow a one-way furrow in the desert. And you would be responsible.
I never slept well after clearing a red X.
God bless the men that fly and fight. Slap 'em on the shoulder and send them into the air. I'll stay here on terra firma. The more firma, the less terra.
