Ahmadinejad’s letter makes some valid points [Nuclear HURL!]
Seattle News Tribune ^ | May 14, 2006 | Barbara Schlotfeldt

Posted on 05/14/2006 8:33:34 AM PDT by Alouette

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s message to our president ought to give all the leaders of our country as well as the rest of us pause. He is absolutely right to suggest that President Bush, and the rest of our nation, “do some soul-searching and atone for past U.S. transgressions.”

While many proclaim that we are a “Christian nation,” we are not. We are not even a moral nation. If we were, our economic policies, both domestic and foreign, would reflect a deep, abiding care and compassion for our brothers and sisters around the globe. We would care for the Earth. And our criminal justice system would be more than an oxymoron.

Ahmadinejad is right: Christ and the great prophets throughout history would rail against our nation’s policies and actions, both at home and abroad.

Written by Barbara Schlotfeldt,eh? Seems very possible to me that Babs might be Jewish. If I'm correct, then Babs would certainly not hesitate to move to Iran (or slip in illegally) as her part in atoning for the sins of the US.

Bon voyage,Babs!

"Ahmadinejad is right: Christ and the great prophets throughout history would rail against our nation’s policies and actions, both at home and abroad.

Of course, the White House and many in Congress will dismiss Ahmadinejad, to their great shame and inner impoverishment. He has held up a mirror for all of us in which to see ourselves, and we can’t bear to look at what we see. So, we kill the messenger – or ignore or bully him.

Such arrogance, such hubris will be our downfall. "

I'll contribute to buy BARBARA SCHLOTFELDT (the author) a one way ticket to Iran, ASAP and petition that she be stripped of her US citizenship for giving aid and comfort to the enemy.

The Dem talking points and the Terrorist talking points are identical.

The thing is, it doesn't matter if Ahmadinejad or Bin Ladin or any of those folks have a legitimate point or not.

They won't lose because they are wrong (just as they won't win if they are right). The will lose because they are our opponet. Everything else is peripheral.

Why don't more people 'get' that?

Just Googled her. A major USA hating homosexual leftist. You can find a bunch of her letters to editors to get the drift. Nothing new here.

She would be at home at the Seattle Post Intelligencer in her area, an ironic name for a liberal newspaper if I ever heard one.

It was noted on Foxe's WSJ Report last night (Paul Gigot's show), that the Iranian nutball's letter has some language that seemed designed to get the global left on his side, in the same manner USSR used to do.

Lo and behold, they found themselves a sucker, of the "blame America first" crowd, to buy into Mr A.'s line of BS.

It's real simpe: Cr*p on the US, and the America-haters at home and abroad just lap it up.

"Ahmadinejad is right: Christ and the great prophets throughout history would rail against our nation’s policies and actions, both at home and abroad."

How is he right? Didnt Christ talk about removing the plank in one own's eye before casting aspersions on others?
Isn't Mr A. just another hypocrite, bellowing at the sins of the Great Satan, yet not acknowledging the sins of his own regime:
- stoning girls to death for the 'crime' of being rape victims
- putting opposition figures in prison and in some csaes killng them
- abusing human rights
- having no free press
- supporting terrorist organizations and sponsoring terrorist acts, such as Hezbollah attacks on Israel
etc.

So a dictator can 'shame us' by merely telling us we are not morally perfect, while their crimes go unspoken?
Such a world is an ugly ugly place, and it is the hubris of the America-haters not America that makes it possible.

"talked to an Iranian woman who said she was a pacifist who supported Ahmadenijad. "

Are you a real Iraqi kurd?
Did you explain to her, that among the oppressions in Iran, is the oppression of the kurds?
Can she explain how being a 'pacifist' and supporting a terrorist-sponsoring regime that sent weapons into Iraq, gave money so Hezbollah can war against Israel and other factions in Lebanon and make terror crimes against innocents?
Not even mentioning that Iran is the most anti-feminist fascist regime on planet earth now with the taliban gone, they are #1 at killing women rape victims, and Code Pink is supposedly feminist, which makes her support for the mad Mullahs, strange at best... or maybe she is just a big fat liar, because one would have to be brain-damaged to take the position she does. A secular feminist leftist 'pacifist' out there supporting a Hitler-like fascist theocratic regime, fancy that.

Is there a reason for her to be in America if she hate "AmeriKKKa" but loves the MadMullahs of Tehran?!?

"This is about demonizing the United States and backing a murderous thug who wants nothing more than death and destruction."

CORRECT. That explains the above. the ONLY thing they have in common with Iranian MadMullahs is ... HATRED OF AMERICA.

" We need another 'McCarthyism' stit, but this we need to expose both the Communists and Jihadists. This bullshit has got to end."

Liberals demonized McCarthy for a *reason*. They wanted the cover to be safely anti-American. They even have gone so far to invent a fake Jefferson quote about dissent being highest form of patriotism (he never said it but John Kerry recently claimed he did).

Pied guts -- Guts that have been spilled and missing from the body to perform its natural function. As a result, bodily waste seeks an alternate orifice for evacuation.

In extreme cases of fear, bodyily wastes can be seen exhuding from all orifices and even through skin pores.

When even that's insufficient, the sufferer will attempt to alleviate the fear by writing something stupid.

Ahmadinejad's charming "invitation" for President Bush to convert America to Islam or, presumably, be nuked is a "valid point"? I bet the same commentator goes into seizures whenever she sees a Christmas tree or a Menorah on public property. In the leftist pathology, we have "much to learn" from a country that tortures children and executes rape victims and if anyone in the United States speaks out against those evils, it is just proof that America is "intolerant."

Some people at DU get it. Evidently not many, but some. Someone even posted:

Why is "truth to power" (not you, but that "quote") only applicable when it is anti-Israeli or anti-US? Why does the media always "lie" when supportive or positive of Israel, but anything anti-Israel, must be the d@mn truth? Why did those who questioned the Dubai deal get labeled an Islamaphobe, but screeds and rants against Israel are dismissed as "legitimate?"

Uncommon good sense but that poster is a minority. One poster questioned why we should trust Iran since Iran threatened to wipe Israel off the map. That was followed by numerous helpful replies that Israel has a nuclear program and poor Iran is just reacting out of fear of the bad Israelies. It seems like 90% of posters are knee-jerk anti-U.S. and anti-Israel. Every once in a while someone says something that makes sense but it is ignored or someone replies that the West is evil.

As the mother of a gay son, I want to thank you for addressing this issue. No doubt you will be vilified for featuring this aspect of human life. There is much latent fear (as expressed in scripture) about this form of sexuality, and the fear boils over into hate and violence. The violence can be lethal, psychological, political and physical, all exacting a terrible human cost. I suppose that, because Notre Dame is a Catholic university, the church's so-called moral stance must be featured in your magazine. But frankly the church -- the institutional church -- has blood on its hands for its promulgation of homophobic attitudes and policies. It has forgotten that each human being is created in the image of God. The language that issues from the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith regarding the homosexual population is horrific and is responsible for terrible harms wreaked on this population and all of us who love them.

Ironically, many of the Lefties who criticize our current war on anti-Jewish terrorists seem to think that the only good thing the United States has ever done in its entire history is to fight Nazi Germany in World War II (with its defeat of the Confederacy a second). Every time America fights "the other"--even when "the other" is an actual ally of Nazi Germany (Militarist Japan in WWII), America is always wrong. Even Nazi-allied Japan is now considered a "victim" of American xenophobia and cultural supremacism.

The only time it is all right to fight is when we fight ourselves and our own darkness. For some reason, in WWII the Germans become "the darkness within us" and we (except for our war against Japan) become "the other."

Weird, weird, weird.

Alas, the incoherency of this individual!

If according to this writer we are not a Christian nation or even a moral one, why then should the President and the rest of the nation do so some soul searching? As a non-Christian and immoral nation we don't believe in the existence of the soul; and unless she believes Ahmadinejad has atoned for Iran's past and present transgressions, neither her nor Ahmadinejad have any business telling the President to atone for past transgressions.

Speaking of which, Iran's glaring transgressions are well documented:

- Significant restriction of the right of citizens to change their government

- Summary executions, including of minors

- Disappearances

- Torture and severe punishments such as amputations and flogging

- Violence by vigilante groups with ties to the government

- Poor prison conditions

- Arbitrary arrest and detention, including prolonged solitary confinement

- Lack of judicial independence

- Lack of fair public trials, including lack of due process and access to counsel

- Political prisoners and detainees

- Excessive government violence in Kurdish areas

- Substantial increase in violence from unknown groups in an Arab region of the country

- Severe restrictions on civil liberties--speech, press, assembly, association, movement, and privacy

- Severe restrictions on freedom of religion

- Official corruption

- Lack of government transparency

- Violence and legal and societal discrimination against women, ethnic and religious minorities, and homosexuals

- Trafficking in persons

- Incitement to anti-Semitism

- Severe restriction of workers' rights, including freedom of association and the right to organize and bargain collectively

- Child labor

Which reminds me of:

Congressman Tom Lantos (D-California), Ranking Democratic Member of the House International Relations Committee, today criticized Iran for rejecting goodwill gestures offered by the United States during the last year, and for continuing to threaten America and its allies by supporting terrorism and pursuing dangerous weapons programs.

Iran's nuclear program comes to mind.

And while we're at it, Ms. Schlotfeldt, there is no bigger arrogance or greater hubris than to presume what Christ would have done regarding America.
