ANTI-WAR activist Cindy Sheehan and Hollywood actress Susan Sarandon have urged Prime Minister John Howard to pull Australian troops out of Iraq.
Mrs Sheehan, whose son was killed while serving with US troops in Iraq, will visit Australia next week (May 22) for a series of anti-war rallies.
She said Mr Howard had been a fool to follow US President George W. Bush into war.
"Absolutely," she said.
"I think that George Bush is a fool and anybody who aligns with George Bush right now, especially with his administration crumbling from this corruption, I think they should distance themselves and quit supporting my country in committing crimes against humanity."
"Of course, they're very lucky to not have deaths, but they might come back whole and they might come back unwounded, but I've seen it here in America - even the ones who come back are not the same people.
"They've seen things there, they've participated in things there and they're not going to be the same."
Sarandon, who was attending a Mothers' Day peace rally with Mrs Sheehan in Lafayette Square, opposite the White House, said the allied presence in Iraq was creating more problems than it was solving.
She rejected arguments that to leave now would be "cutting and running".
"Our troops that are over there now are spending all their time and energy and resources just trying to stay alive. There's no spreading of democracy that's happening, there's no building of schools that's happening. The only thing that's been built are permanent bases that are there," Sarandon said.
"So what are we accomplishing? What would we be running from? It seems as if we're the source of aggravation.
"So I don't think that we would be cutting and running. I think that's just an expression that appeals to a macho mentality to get people to stay.
"But at a certain point, trying to explain to people why their children are being killed, both the Iraqi families and the Americans that are over there, I think you'd have a hard time selling cutting and running to those families that have people actually in harm's way."
Mr Howard is in Washington for talks with the Bush administration.
Both leaders will attend a tree-planting ceremony at the Australian ambassador's residence later today.

It's none of their bloody business what Australia does! We don't pay any attention to these two over here, so why should Australia?
To: Aussie Dasher
Sorry Aussie. Her fifteen minutes should have passed a long time ago.

Just wondering why anyone would be of the opinion that an Australian PM should give two Shiites what two brain-damaged American celebrities have to say on any subject when the majority of their own countrymen disagree with them.

"And Kerry was in Vietnam?" He was there for 3 months, - 2 tours of duty. For which he recieved 3 purple hearts,( a cut finger, a chunk of rice in his ass, and a sliver of frag in his arm from his own weapon) and a bronze star for shooting a kid in the back.

Couldn't you somehow pull together a gaggle of Aussie Freepers to properly greet these two dingbats?

Someone should ask Cindy at what age she gave up custody of her son who was killed in Iraq and if she has had a subsequent marriage and if she is giving up custody of that son also. Moonbat doesn't do justice to the description of this organism; thank God she's on the other side.

I was there.....counter-protesting them. What a pathetic lot they were. They only had 150-200 people in attendance, while spewing one lie after another.
One guy approached me yelling something (who pays attention to a mad man?) then reverted to getting in my face screaming that he was in Vietnam and demanding to know what I was doing during Vietnam. I stepped toward him and screamed, "I was home supporting my Marine husband while HE was in Vietnam!"
Kristinn said I scared him, because he went back to the moon bats at a rapid pace! LOL!

Great job Justa!! I remember a little girl telling me I need to know my Bible, I asked her if she knew Fred Phelps and she laughs and said yes of course. A little demon spawn!! People giving us the one finger salute!
Loser on the forehead. Susan Surandon (sp) tell George Bush to Get back in uniform and go to war himself!
Mostly it reminded me of a commune from the 60's flowers and songs and moonbats. It was a good day despite the low turn out it was great having the visitors saying thanks and I glad you have my back. It was a good day because I had friends around me for Mothers day. Thanks for being there. [Mrs T]
