You might want to ask the President what he thinks about your situation.

Your neice can get in line to buy food AFTER all the free-lunch kids have eaten. The kids not on freebies can only buy left-overs.

Home school or private school.

As Neal Boortz would say, don't take the best thing in your life and hand him/her over to the government to be educated. Does the government handle anything well?

I would have called the President, but the news reported that Vicente Fox already had him on another line and tied up.

"Last time I checked, the U.S.A. does not have an official language, english or otherwise."

No but 27 states have English as their official language (27 last I looked which was about a year ago, could be more now.) Don't know if Texas is on that list though.

I wouldn't live out where my sister lives. However, her husband's income is limited, she's at home with two children, and another is in the 6th grade. Her situation is what it is.

I agree with you about the illegals. However, they are here and until we get rid of them it is to OUR advantage to educate them and make sure they are disease free. Giving them a head start on English is a good way to do that.

My children went to school in the Aldine ISD. My daughter graduated from Eisenhower.

It is easy to become frustrated with the school system in general and the problem with illegals makes it worse.

When my children were down there, from the early seventies until the early eighties, the school sent notes home wanting us to sign our kids up for free lunches. We definitely didn't need it nor qualify for it and our kids begged us not to sign it. I went to school to find out what was up and eventually learned that the more kids they had in the school lunch program the more money they got from the federal government, which assumed these were poor, needy kids. They were gaming the system just for the money.

It is those kinds of things that make our education system so expensive.

Oh well, Texas isn't one of the state I talked about in #45.

States/territories with English as official language: Alabama, Alaska, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, New Hampshire, North Carolina, North Dakota, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, the U.S. Virgin Islands, Utah, Virginia, West Virginia, and Wyoming.

...do either of those documents state that a child, or any other citizen, for that matter, must speak english in order to be entitled to the same rights as any other?

No, and I'd venture to guess that is because everyone spoke English. Heck, even the Indians learned to, without objection or mass demonstrations.

Tell me, DesertGirl, do you think English should be made the official language of the United States?

its well documented that immigrants will learn English within the first generation, also it is well documented that 2/3 or more of recent immigrants in the south west are illegal, therefore then anyone using Spanish has a greater probability they are a newcomer and illegal at that,

simple statistics; the kids learning English are the kids of illegal immigrants by and large even though the kids themselfs may be US citizens but more so are the families of legal parents made up of both parents and children whom are legal citizens and whom the parents have paid taxes there whole adult life so now are being cheated , is what they are saying.

That is the EXACT same thing that happened to my daughter. We called (CA) to find out what we needed to do to enroll her in school and we were told that low-income and non english speaking children would be enrolled before they would take her. I was livid. But glad that in the end we didn't enroll her. She would have been completely overlooked while teachers "caught-up" non-English speaking students. Having a look at the schools in our district (Fresno) we decided for us, it was best to homeschool. We'll be starting this year and we're really excited.

***All it takes to become a citizen is to be born here. It doesn't matter whether your parents are legally here or not. If you are born here, you are a citizen here, and if you are a citizen, you are entitled to be educated here.***

Anchor babies only reinforce illegal behavior and encourage all the laboring mothers to get to El Paso to give birth.

Best of luck to you!! I'm sure we are going to see the day when parents who homeschool will be sued by illegals because the English-speaking children aren't in public schools anymore. After all, SSO-trespassers don't have the luxury of homeschooling in English!

And with that, I am going to bed. Buenos noches gringos!
