Blacks in the region are joining Minuteman militia groups opposed to illegal Hispanic aliens working in the United States, saying they take jobs from blacks and piggyback off the strides made during the civil rights movement.
Several blacks Friday attended a Minuteman rally in the District. And yesterday, Ted Hayes, a black Los Angeles-based homeless activist and founder of the Crispus Attucks Brigade, held a rally in Upper Senate Park denouncing attempts by immigrant rights groups to link their movement to that of black civil rights.
"Illegal immigration is the greatest threat to black people since slavery," Mr. Hayes said. "The civil rights movement was made by black citizens of this country, but [illegal aliens] are claiming civil rights as a key to cross the American border illegally."
He and several area blacks at the rallies said losing jobs is their biggest concern.
Mr. Hayes said illegal aliens are accepting "slave wages" after decades of blacks' not allowing employers to pay them less than minimum wage.
Northwest resident Mae Bruce, 68, said her biggest concerns are illegal aliens' "flooding" historically black neighborhoods without assimilating and taking advantage of overburdened government resources such as public education and health care.
Sylvia Thomas, a black woman living in Alexandria, recently said she plans to join a local Minuteman chapter.
"If I'm going to be held to abiding by the law, they should be, too," she said. "I don't like my tax money going to people who are living here illegally."
A recent survey by the Pew Research Center shows that about 80 percent of blacks have a favorable view of Hispanic immigrants' work ethic and family values. The survey also shows that 33 percent of blacks are less likely to suggest deportation of illegals aliens, compared with 59 percent of whites.

The mesoamericans, as a voting block, will insist on the their "fair share". This means more services, more grants, more everything at the expense of other "minorities" (read blacks).

I get her point but I would argue that the black 40% abortion rate (triple that of whites and hispanics) is a greater threat...
Does this mean they refuse to speak English, or they refuse to wear oversized pants, backwards hats, and speak ebonics?

What I am about to say may be a gross exaggeration but I'm going to say it anyway because I have heard it so many times.
The black attitude to those low paying,menial jobs-"We ain't doing work like that any more.Hell,we picked cotton for 300 years for y'all for FREE"
The white attitude to those same jobs-"We're WHITE,for God's sake.WE don't do that kind of work.I need something substantial to put on my resume"
I know,I know,I'm stereotyping horribly but I know all of you on this board have heard those sentiments on more than one occasion.
It's the "one size pie" rule. To divvy up the one size pie, everybody must get a smaller piece. No one ever thinks of making a bigger pie...........or more than one.........
I guess because the Indians are running the hotels, the Arabs run the gas stations, Vietnamese run the nail care shops, Chinese run the laundries and the Japanese run the auto industries.

Maybe some hyperbole here, but basically Mr. Hayes is right. Illegal immigration is taking jobs from black Americans.

Personally, I see this as a great opportunity for the GOP. President Bush believes we cannot round up and deport 12 million illegal aliens. But of course, we can. It's just a matter of manpower. So.... Hire and train a million African-Americans to conduct well-supervised raids in the barrios, rounding up illegals. The program can be justified and can be sold to the American people. It would infuse such a sense of patriotism in the country, and such a sense of added pride among African-Americans, I predict the GOP would win by a landslide this fall, and again in 2008... Just one man's opinion...

They spit in the face of American immigration laws and usurp the civil rights that black Americans fought for and obtained. The most infuriating thing about all this is that President Bush has stood shoulder to shoulder with the foreign invaders. If Bush thinks that stationing a token National Guard contingent along the border with Mexico will soothe the ire of the American people he's in for a very , very big surprise, because people will understand it as a political ploy rather than a real answer to the problem. And the problem is twofold: the ongoing invasion and the 20 million invaders who are already here. He must address both issue with equal firmness and resolve. In other words, NO AMNESTY.
If the President continues his destructive quest for amnesty for hispanic invaders he will lose the majority of his base and his pandering to illegals will foster a destructive split in the Republican party. His speech tonight will be the most important one of his Presidency, but I doubt he has the intelligence and intuition to understand that this massive invasion from the south is more of a threat to the U.S. than terrorism is at this point.
I'm not certain who you are hearing this from, but as someone that does a job that involves manual labor, a job Americans supposedly do not do, I would say I know a great deal of average white, black and Hispanics. Enhancing their resume isn't their attitude. Putting food on the table is.
I would say the attitude they project is that they are willing to do hard work, but not for for depressed wages.

:)).. and they (Blacks) would be dumb to do some of those back braking jobs... The problem is... COMPANIES/BUSINESSES (not the illegals) whp provide "good jobs" (like construction companies) are the ones to be blamed because of their greediness, they hire illegas at lower wages and that is beginning to affect the "good jobs."
This is just the way it is supposed to work... if braking the law, does not call the attention the law, they will keep pushing the envelope further and further until someone put a stop to it. Just like with a Child who is testing the boundaries all the time, not rocket science :)

People will do any work, under any conditions, if the wages are decent. This is proven by the fact that laborers will travel to frigid, barren places like Alaska to work, and even to dangerous places like Iraq to help rebuild, IF the money is right. So it never was about the work, the real issue has been the slave wages associated with these jobs the illegals perform. But you'll never hear the President mention this reality.
If you look at the big picture and understand that illegals will live in apartments with four families, and that they also receive WELFARE benefits on top of their paltry wages, you begin to understand why American laborers won't, (actually CAN'T), take these jobs.

How do you compete with four families living in one apartment, and who are also receiving free health care and welfare benefits on top of their wages?
The whole idea behind allowing up to 20 million illegals into our country, and granting "amnesty" to them, is to make certain there are no competitive wages in the menial labor market. It's all about economics and GREED, and any one who believes it's about 'immigration' and 'opportunity' for all is either as naive as an infant or just plain insane.
You'll excuse me? I must go and tote that barge and lift that bale. There are people, I don't even know, that need some more of my earned money.

NO. Mexicans are taking the jobs that blacks wont do.
The work ethic of Mexicans is 100 times better then that of American blacks.
I know this first hand from when a group of Mexicans were brought into west Tennessee to work in cotton gins. It was a federal program, and not illegals, but they ran rings around the blacks that they replaced.
Great Society programs were intended for Americans who have been wronged. Well now we have illegals and immigrants who are cashing in on these programs. As Rush has always stated a program has good intentions then gets totally out of whack.

The "pie" of concern is all the services provided by the government at taxpayer expense. That is a pie we don't want to grow, yet the government is determined to grow it. The flood of illegals is determined to have a hand out for as much of that pie as possible. The illegals consume far more of that pie than they finance through the pittance of taxes levied on their low skill labor. If it gets collected at all.
Maybe the "earners" should go on strike and let them all see what's left after we remove our abilities from the economy.........
The clerks dispensing welfare checks in San Diego lamented that they earned less than the people coming to collect those checks for doing nothing at all. When a welfare check pays more than performing honest labor, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out what people will do.
When I was coming up,many white middle class kids took summer jobs at Tahoe casinos and hotels.Now its almost all Mexicans,probably illegals,doing those busboy and kitchen jobs.The white kids now are hanging out on the beach at their jet skis or perhaps hooking up with dad's law firm for a summer internship.
I was taught early that hard,dirty work was no disgrace.Thats not the attitude today of most white or black kids out here in California.
