WASHINGTON Heeding conservative demands to shore up the southern U.S. border to prevent illegal immigrants from freely crossing into the country, the Senate voted Wednesday to build 370 miles of triple-layered fence

Soooo, now we just go around the fence?
I'll be that'll fox 'em(pun intended).
Woo-hoo, 370 miles! Now, there's only 1,300 more to go!
It's a START.
They need more and they know it. Places on the border have have no barriers worthy of the name.
I quess nothing would have been better.
Additional details: the fence will consist of 1,480 quarter-mile segments separated by one mile of open land. Ok, not really, but if there's a way to make it sound good in the abstract but defeat its purpose in the reality, they'll find it.
My thoughts are that they are only pretending to build one just as they pretended to enforce the laws against illegal incursions and prosecuting businesses for hiring illegals for the last 20 years!
Liars in DC need to pay a severe price for this.
I suppose they will have to do an environmental study...should take years to finish that
Why not 1110 miles of single layer fence instead of 370 miles of triple layer? /sarc

Of course, and meanwhile our precious tax dollars will go to pay for Enviro Lawyers to file millions of lawsuits. End tax dollars to ACLU and all other lawyers.
No, you opportunistic jerk. Mexico has not been a good neighbor by disrespecting our border and laws. It actively (not passively) encourages its citizens to break our laws. It "has become a symbol" of the corruption and utter contempt of the do-nothing Mexican government. Mexico abused the privilege of a totally open border, so they lose it. TFB, Dick!
We should have illegals build the fence after they are captured. After all, "they are doing the work that Americans won't do" we are told endlessly.
And make it electric too!
Well, we could have them build the one on Mexico's side, bill the illegals who try to wire money back home and give these Mexicans a Real Job, that Americans won't do.
how much you wanna bet the govt will use "cheap illegal alien labor" to build it ????
- Our government has been infested with American Vichies
- They're giving us our own Maginot Line, but have no real will to defend the sovereignty of the country
Like a big rock in a big river, the water must now go around. This should help concentrate things on the ends of that fence which would seem like the logical place to put the guns.
If it pisses off Vicente Fox, it's probably the right thing to do.
Polling results must have come in on the Senate GOP and The Presidents position on this issue. And the polls must not have looked very good.
Is there any site on the internet that shows exactly what amendments have been proposed?
The MAGINOT LINE of America........
Has Israel pressured us to tear it down yet? < /sarcasm >
Does Senator Durbin have a fence around his house and yard? Does he have locks on his doors?
Its a start. Amazing what Washington will do when "we the people" get pissed off. Maybe the Minuteman Project will build the rest.
Selling advertising space on the fence would pay for the job a couple of times over.
Nothing is ever good enough for some. Same old same old whining.
Hey... I HAVE AN IDEA!!!
Put a toll booth out in the middle of the desert and require them to put a dime in to make the gate open...
That will really screw them up. They will have to send someone back to get a bag of dimes.
Look for an increase in tunnels.
50% of something usually beats 100% of nothing. IMHO. :)
I'm all for a 20ft tall, 200,000 volt electric fence followed by a 20 ft wide, 2000 mile long moat of boiling oil.
Maybe. But, since GWB's a man of principle, maybe he'll take this opportunity for his long-awaited first veto.
That'll stop 'em. Just the toll booth in Blazing Saddles :)
Who's whining? It is in fact a good start. That's just a statement.
"I'm all for a 20ft tall, 200,000 volt electric fence followed by a 20 ft wide, 2000 mile long moat of boiling oil:
Don't forget a tench with a few alligators and crocs (They gotta eat too.)
I know MANY dems who see the border/immigration issue as I do...seal it tight with a fence/wall and deport ALL illegals as we stumble accross them. Imprison all who employ them...a year and a day for each offense.
Those who think our opinions are not making an impact are wrong...the Senate is already moving our way. The bill that comes out of conference will have a wall, severe/real worksite enforcement...and a VERY LIMITED and controlled "guest worker" program to support agriculture. Those who are here today will not be granted amnesty in any form and worksite enforcement will make them unemployable.
When THAT bill goes back to the Senate we'll see who has the cajones to vote against it:)
this is the kind of talk, even though I know its in jest (I hope), that makes FR look bad, and frankly emboldens those who want to paint people in legitimate opposition to this bill, as "kooks". we don't want electrified fences, moats of boiling oil, gun turrets, et al along the southern border.
My, oh my what a wonderful day!
Plenty of sunshine heading my way
It's a good start. I wasn't directing my comment AT you, merely to you as an observation of some of the posts. Sorry for the misunderstanding.
How about the so called Senators go out and build it. They're not doing anything worthwhile. Let 'em earn their huge pay for a change.
In has links to histories & votes. See (2) S.AMDT.3961 - No Legalization till Enforcement Measures complete. It's vote flushed all the RINOs. (VOTE)
This should take about 20 years.
