US: PA govt will collapse without aid
American sources say Hamas-led Palestinian government will collapse within three months if transfer of monetary aide to Authority is not resumed; Western diplomatic sources in Washington say it was also decided to open bank accounts for Palestinian Authority officials so they may receive theirs salaries without any money passing through the PA government
Sources in the US said the Hamas-led Palestinian government will collapse within three months if the transfer of monetary aid to the Authority is not resumed.
The sources confirmed to the London-based al-Hayat newspaper that the EU, Jordan and Egypt have committed themselves not to transfer funds directly to the Palestinian government, adding that Palestinian banks will be forced to stand by their obligations to avoid confiscation by international banks.
Haniyeh is making a grave mistake
A senior State Department official lauded Egypt, Jordan and Saudi Arabias participation in the Quartet meeting last week, during which it was agreed to transfer funds to the PA directly via a special fund that will be supervised by an international body such as the World Bank or UN.
Western diplomatic sources in Washington said that it was also decided to open bank accounts for Palestinian Authority officials so they may receive theirs salaries without any money passing through the PA government.
The sources added that the steps taken will prevent a humanitarian crisis in the territories while making certain that the economic siege on Hamas will persist as long asthe terror group refuses to denounce terror and recognize Israel or past agreements signed between Israel and the PA.
(PA Prime Minister) Ismail Haniyeh is making a grave mistake by believing that the EU will not follow through on the steps it has decided on in order to apply pressure on the Hamas-led government, a senior American official said, adding that the EU views Hamas as a terror organization.
How is this a problem, again?
And why is this a problem? Let the terrorist government fall! No more aid to Hamas!!!!
And your point is........?
Pennslyvania government has had issues for decades. :)
"No, Jim -- you'll flood the whole compartment!"
"Sir -- he's dead already."
(pause) "It's too late, Jim."
- McCoy, Kirk, Scott, regarding Spock
- Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan
It's nice to see good news!
There's so little of it!
Why do the government officials need salaries? They can clean shoes for a living.
Who was it that said,
"In a democracy the people get the government they deserve?"
Let Jimmy Carter personally bankroll them.
Been waiting for it to collapse so we can split the state into two pieces (harrisburg and philly and the rest of the state).
Is there actually a single sentient human being anywhere who cares about this?
Maybe the Hamas should use their money for something other than explosive devices. Screw em..starve the bastards out..allah willing.
We at FR can help. I'm gonna pass the hat and I know my fellow FReepers will be generous. Here we go - I'm starting with three pennies, an old subway token, and some pocket lint. Over to you.
I hate to be so hard and heartless on this issue, I really, really do, but the so called palestinians leave me no choice...let them suffer, eat their own, and destroy themselves. This is what they have earned in the world of consequences for actions. God forgive me.
The best thing that could happen to the Pallies, long term, is to let the welfare state collapse. Force them to think of some productive private-sector activity they could make money at, now that Saddam is not paying for suicide bombers
Let them reap what they sow.
According to this site, it was Churchill. As in Winston, not that pseudo-Indian clown Ward Churchill.
supervised by an international body such as the World Bank or UN
They used supervise and UN/World Bank in the same sentence.
Over to you...
I found some popcorn in the couch and (dust) bunnies under the bed!
I'm supposed to care right?
I dont see anything wrong with this.
So it's Ok to pay bin Ladin and his staff if the money doesn't go through al-Qaeda?
We are living in the Twilight Zone. Constructed by the Terrorist fighting Bush Administration.
That was my first thought too! ;)
I'm afraid that the division of the State Department that handles the affairs of the area desire that there be no resolution of the crisis between the Palestinians and Israel.
It keeps the bureaucrats at State feeling relevant.
It does make one wonder...doesn't it?
They can eat explosives and nails. Apparently they have plenty of that.
Twilight Zone is right, folks read the title and get to having their pep rally - Wondering if they are reading the article? Like Hello folks!!!
The PA govt will collapse and the U.S. SEEMS to be quickly finding a new way to come to it's defense and salvation...SSDD
US: PA govt will collapse without aid
==>> "Western diplomatic sources in Washington said that it was also decided to open bank accounts for Palestinian Authority officials so they may receive theirs salaries without any money passing through the PA government."
"I dont see anything wrong with this."
What about this part of the article, where the U.S. saves their terrorist butts...any problem with this?
"Western diplomatic sources in Washington said that it was also decided to open bank accounts for Palestinian Authority officials so they may receive theirs salaries without any money passing through the PA government."
Their downfall is our gain. I LOVE IT!!!!!
If you read a headline saying "Cuba will collapse without aid", how quickly would Washington send aid?
Why is the Bush Administration concerned about the standard of living of genocidal savages?
Are they as concerned about the actual dying in Dafur?
What we have here is a good ole case of schadenfreude.
You know in Israel they plant trees in honor of donors.
Maybe the savages can start naming their terrorist acts in honor of their donors.
The Killing in Tel Aviv brought to you by an American taxpayer from Dallas, for the dead Israelis in Jerusalem thank you, you know who you are, in Boston.
The State Department insists on proving me right again and again. The PA is not viable as an independent entity. Separate from Israel, separate from their arab mother countries Jordan and Egypt there is no economy, there are no jobs, no markets, nothing at all.
There will never be an independent arab west bank and there will never be an independent Gaza. Every day we waste pursuing this fantasy, every dollar we pour down this rathole is another day and another dollar wasted. More importantly, the longer we waste time on something that will never be, the longer we delay the development of solutions that could work.
Meanwhile innocent Israelis and deluded arabs go on dying.
The effort to establish what will never be has done nothing but kill Israelis and arabs alike.
With respect to the content of the article, PA is at war with Israel. Until they surrender, not one cent of aid should be allowed reach PA control. If PA collapses for lack of foreign funding, as it will, this only demonstrates that it was an artificial creation from the beginning.
YOU CAN BE GENEROUS, PEOPLE! GIVE TILL IT BLEEDS!!
Why not give each of the little darlings a luxury condo in Manhattan too.
This country has gone as mad as a $hithouse rat.
He can start a new humanitarian venture called "Habitats for Hamas".
Just a bunch of IOU's signed by Kofi and Kojo.
Get Bagdad Bob to host a fund raising telethon for them. All them good Allah fearing folks over there should cough up a bunch of money for the poor palis. /s
Why don't somebody suggest to the PA that the way to get along in the world is to work and be self-sustaining.
Living on hand-outs is degrading. The Arabs should go to work, earn your living and stop whinning and begging from their betters. .
What a lovely thought!
What can one say?
Send me money I'm in need.
Send me money I'm in need.
