MATTHEWS: Draw us a picture of what happened in Haditha.

MURTHA: Well I'll tell you exactly what happened. One Marine was killed and the Marines just said we're gonna take care...we don't know who the enemy is, the pressure was too much on them, so they went into houses and actually killed civilians and...I...

MATTHEWS: Was this My Lai? When you say cold blood Congressman, a lot of people think you're basically saying you've got some civilians sitting in a room or out in a field and they're executed on purpose...

MURTHA: That's exactly what happened.

MATTHEWS: ...not because any of the Marines are scared or anybody is scared...

MURTHA: ...this was not an action...this was not...first they tried to say it was an IED, there was no IED involved in this. This was troops, they were so stressed out, they went into houses and killed children, women and children. 24 people they killed. Now this is the kind of stress they are under. Listen, I don't excuse it, but I understand what's happening and the responsibility goes right to the top. This is something that should not have happened, that should have been investigated, they've already relieved three commanding officers...but this is the kind of stuff...stress is going to cause these kind of things. That's why I'm so upset about it.

MATTHEWS: Congressman, I just want to read something from the Marine Corps and then you can continue. The Marine Corps told us today that they're not going to comment today because the investigation is still ongoing. So they're investigating...

I did speak to Vince. Didn't ask him how busy he'd been, but I'm glad to hear they've been getting calls.

McCain has many faults, but his support of our troops has been excellent. Please do contact him, and thanks for the public support of our military!

Yes, but he also supports never refuting John Kerry and his false denigration of troops. It's all free speech to McCain, which is very ironic.

He did mention what Murtha said but didn't spend a lot of time on it.

>>I'm betting it was the other traitor - John F'in Kerry.

Hmmm Tough call... I'd be in for a dollar.

Not tough for me, really. Who collects the dollar??? ;*)<<

Well I think we are gonna have to declare a draw - assuming you didn't call Murtha that was technically 97 senators - still a good days work though.

Hi guys....

I was watching Brit Hume's show..and they covered this pretty extensively...but, then Bret Baier came on...and said that the Pentagon says the report on the incident isn't finished yet...BUT, from what they said...the report could be really "UGLY"...sigh

Rummy is on with Bill O'Reilly tonight...and BOR is going to grill him about this, using the comparison of My Lai, in Vietnam...and says to Rummy that if that is the case, then that is really gonna hurt our effort in Iraq..

Bill O'Reilly said it differently...I can't remember his words exactly..but they were more ominous sounding than what I posted...

I have had a knot in my stomach ever since I saw that...I just got to this thread...have you guys heard anything different??

There's nothing new there from the original NBC article. The Pentagon is only saying an investigation is still ongoing. They're not denying the treasonous SOB's claims, nor are they confirming them. Some "unnamed military officials" have been using the "it could get ugly" or "it's gonna be ugly" phrase.

Regardless of Marine guilt or innocence, Murtha's still a scumbag. He's playing this up for his own gain and to hurt Dubya, without giving a damn for the damage he's causing our troops. He even had a quote about how thing have gotten worse, not better, in Iraq. This SOB needs to be retired NOW!!!

I totally agree with you about Murtha...

I remember reading about this incident way back when it happened....and I didn't believe the Marines did it then, and I don't now...but, I HATE that Murtha is making this look like a "cover up"...

BTW..O'Reilly, in the clip Brit showed..doesn't seem to have any trouble believing it, IMHO>

Please keep me updated on anything you find out...I just HATE it when the troops get used...for good PR, OR for bad PR...

Thanks...

I find it very hard to believe it occurred the way it's being described. There's a human rights group pushing this whole thing, so keep that in mind. Do I believe innocents were killed during a battle? Unfortunately, sure. Do I believe a Marine or two lost their heads and potentially violated law and code of conduct after seeing their buddy killed? Sure. Do I believe an entire squad/patrol entered a home and executed a mother, her 3-year old and other family members and then tried to cover it up? No, I really don't.

Murtha is a treasonous sack of crap. I hope the Marines are innocent of these charges, but it won't change my opinion one iota if they're not.
