Irey Responds to Murtha’s Comments that
U.S. Troops Killed Iraqi Civilians in Cold Blood

Monongahela, PA – Today, Washington County Commissioner and Republican Congressional nominee Diana Irey responded to her opponent’s recent comments claiming that U.S. Troops were responsible for the death of innocent Iraqi civilians.

“I was shocked and dismayed by my opponent’s charge that U.S. Marines are responsible for murdering Iraqi civilians in cold blood. Why John Murtha would say such a thing in the wake of an ongoing investigation and accuse our troops of such horrific actions is beyond comprehension,” Irey said.

Murtha made these comments at a press conference yesterday. “Our troops overreacted because of the pressure on them and they killed innocent civilians in cold blood,” Murtha said. He made these comments to reporters regarding an incident that occurred November 19th in Haditha, Iraq.

“There is no doubt that my opponent’s disregard for the presumption of innocence and Due Process will have an adverse effect on troop morale. Unfortunately, instead of showing support for our military personnel, his partisan rhetoric will only harm our country at this fragile time. His continued comments are a devastating blow to millions of men, women and children in the Middle East who are just getting their first taste of Democracy.” Irey said.

Diana Irey has spent the last decade in public service as a Washington County Commissioner, and she is now running to bring her vision of government responsibility, lower taxes, and family values to the United States Congress as the Representative of Pennsylvania’s 12th District.

You''ve got the blood of hundreds of Americans on your hands for what you've already done to motivate and embolden terrorists by helping to divide the nation on the war and through telling the terrorists "You've hurt us so bad we want to withdraw now so keep bleeding us and we will!" But now you've added more impetus to keep these people fighting with your baseless smears of US Marines. And all of it comes based on the allegations of an anti-American "human rights" group in Iraq, one that is doubtless little more than a front for the terrorists.

Not to my knowledge. The key numbers I've seen are that Kerry carried this district by only two points -- 51-49%. Murtha's a well-funded, powerful incumbent, but he's definitely hurting his chances at re-election. All those folks that 18 or so months ago voted for Bush (49%) but then cast their votes for Murtha are not going to be too pleased with his escapades over the past six months.

Add to that mix he's pretty old, and he's up against a fairly young - yet experienced - and attractive female candidate. He's going to have trouble attacking her. And she seems pretty conservative to boot!

I have a good friend (fishing buddy) who is an M.D. and he said, looking at Murtha, he looks like a candidate for cardiovascular problems.

Normally I would blow off something like that, except for the fact that his predictions have always been correct (famous people on TV, etc.)

While watching one of them on TV he would make a pained expression and say "oh no" and he would later explain.

From me it's only hearsay but the Doc says that when a person starts retaining fluid where it shows in the face (puffy looking) that much, it's a good reason to suspect a cardiovascular problem.

Since 1995, John Murtha has voted 11 straight times in favor of raising his own pay. (CQ #648, #317, #435, #289, #300, #419, #267, #322, #463, #451, and #327)

John Murtha has voted multiple times to raid the social security trust fund – the key to your retirement – to pay for wasteful government spending projects.

John Murtha has voted to actually make your health care more expensive. He even voted against tax-free health savings accounts.

John Murtha actually voted to cut spending on our national security by $76 billion. Then, he voted in favor of instituting the draft! And, perhaps most stunning of all, John Murtha spoke out against the brave men and women who are defending our freedom by calling for an immediate withdrawl of our troops from Iraq.

Mr. Murtha has been stupid enough to give us a real opportunity here with Ms. Irey. Will we be smart enough and dedicated enough to take it?

I still contend that the left has it's hands firmly gripped around Murtha's private parts and gives a little squeeze every time they need him to spout their propaganda. Murtha has always been a self-serving jerk and has used his seat to make himself and those around him rich. He came very close to getting caught up in the ABSCAM sting 25 years ago which sent several congresscritters to Club Fed. His brother came out of nowhere to become a high-powered K Street lobbyist and his clients seem very successful in winning government contracts.

All that said, Murtha never was one to look for the big media spotlight. He was always content to keep a low profile nationally and focus on bringing pork to his district. Then suddenly, he's going out of his way to grab headlines with radical left rhetoric even though he's in a district that probably has double the percentage of active duty military than the average congressional district. It simply does not make sense, unless you consider that Murtha has lots of skeletons in his closet and is easily susceptible to extortion.
