Actress Susan Sarandon Endorses Clinton Opponent In Senate Race

Actress Susan Sarandon, a longtime liberal political activist and outspoken opponent of the Iraq war, endorsed an anti-war Democrat challenging Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton's re-election bid Tuesday.
Sarandon is backing Jonathan Tasini, a labor advocate and former president of the National Writers' Union, who has based his longshot campaign on Clinton's vote in 2002 authorizing military intervention in Iraq.
Clinton, who is widely considered the front-runner for the 2008 Democratic presidential nomination if she chooses to run, has sharply criticized the Bush Administration's handling of the war. But she has also refused to call for American troops to be removed from Iraq.
Sarandon has been a harsh critic of Clinton's vote on the war, telling a British television interviewer last month that Clinton had "crumbled under the pressure of the moment." She also told ITV1 that she wasn't enthusiastic about a Clinton presidential candidacy.
Announcing Sarandon's endorsement, Tasini called the 59-year old Academy Award winner a "passionate advocate for human rights, justice and civil liberties" and said he was "honored" to have her support.
"She has never wavered when the call has come for people to stand on the front lines in support of progressive principles that affect the lives of so many people in our country," Tasini said.
Sarandon did not offer a statement of her own but an aide confirmed she was backing Tasini.
Earlier this month, Sarandon joined Clinton at a rally in Washington for the Christopher Reeve Foundation, which promotes research on spinal cord injuries. There, Sarandon offered nothing but praise for Clinton, saying "we are all very lucky to have her here today as a leader in Congress."

Jonathan Tasini, a labor advocate and former president of the National Writers' Union In other words, a dyed-in-the-wool Stalinist.

I respectfully disagree.
She will NEVER get the conservative vote.
I think if she loses the liberal vote, she is toast. There are not enough votes in the MUSHY MIDDLE (IMHO).

You would think that from how divided the polls are but there are still more people who self identify as Democrats than Republicans in the swing states and yet Republicans have been winning the states - that implies some votes in the middle that are switchable.
In principal, a vote in the middle is worth more because you both get the vote and deny it to the opposition.

Well, The Rocky Horror Picture Show is by far her best work but she's done other stuff, I think. I had great fun in a college Sociology class (taught by a Marxist lesbian -- but you knew that already) writing a review of "Thelma and Louise".
In the movie, both Thelma and Louise have pretty good lives, but don't realize it. The men in their lives push them around a little or ignore them a little, but mostly these two bimbos are taken care of pretty well. Then, they decide to take charge of their own lives! Yee-Haa!
Every decision that Susan Sarandon and Geena Davis makes is a bad one. They descend further and further into a hell of their own making. They mess up other people, destroy property, and cause much unhappiness. In the end, they decide that they've screwed up so much that they have no option other than suicide.
Most people say it as a pro-woman, anti-man movie. IMO, it's a "women are hopeless idiots" movie.
Even my Marxist lesbian teacher had to agree that I had some good points.

This is all eye-wash anyway.
Do you think for 1 minute that when Mrs. Bill Clinton becomes the Dem nominee, Susan sarandon won't be front and center campaigning for her? Please.
It's easy to support her "opponent" in a race he no chance of winning. She's sending Mrs. Bill Clinton a message, that's all.

Yeah, she looks pretty good but I knew a fella that was a set carpenter on a movie she was doing and he said, in more colorful language, that she smelled and apparently to the point where everyone on the set talked about it.
He speculated that she was one of those earth mother types who eschewed deodorant but for whatever reason she had world class body odor.
Or maybe it's just a leftie thing.

Jane Fonda too ("Klute"), but Susan Sarandon was also "in a whore movie" -- she was a prostitute in "Pretty Baby", and brought her underaged daughter (played by a 13-year-old Brooke Shields) into "the business" as well.
