BEATING HILLARY
By DICK MORRIS
May 21, 2006 -- CAN SHE BE STOPPED?: HILLARY CLINTON WILL BE THE NEXT PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES UNLESS . . . BY JOHN PODHORETZ CROWN FORUM, 272 PAGES, $26.95
We seem to have a three-party system in America today: the Democrats, the Republicans and the Anti-Hillary. The party opposed to the former first lady is not united by ideology, party, race, ethnicity, religion, geography, wealth or educational level. It is composed of the enlightened many who believe her to be devoid, at once, of character, integrity and principle.
So we of the third party will welcome the bromide from New York Post columnist John Podhoretz's "Can She Be Stopped?" because it has a happy ending. Podhoretz assures us she can be. If the GOP nominates Rudy Giuliani and if the party doesn't rip itself apart over abortion and if Hillary's opponent can "smoke her out" on the issues and highlight her misguided health-care debacle. If, if, if.
The problem with Podhoretz's user guide to Hillary hating is that it was obsolete the day it emerged, fully clothed, from his computer. The Hillary scandal is a gift that keeps on giving.
In all likelihood, the ethical issue of 2008 won't be Whitewater, the pardon of Hillary's brothers' clients, the FALN terrorist pardons designed to win her the Hispanic vote or the theft of White House china.
Indeed, the issue may post-date the publication of Podhoretz's excellent book. It might turn out that the Emir of Dubai has funneled millions in income to the Clintons through billionaire Ron Burkle and the Yucaipa Corporation. Possibly the emerging connection between the budget items Hillary has earmarked in Congress and her campaign contributors will be fodder for the 2008 campaign. Or we may end up focusing on the almost total lack of legislative accomplishment during Hillary's Senate tenure, including little more than renaming post offices or courthouses.
The truth is that the chronicle of Hillary's ethical lapses is a work in progress.
... Podhoretz urges Republicans to set aside ideology and social issues and unite to prevent the ascension to the White House of one of the most liberal and unethical political figures of our time.
Obviously, Hillary hopes that the Republicans don't nominate Giuliani, John McCain or Condoleezza Rice. A nice white male conservative like George Allen or Bill Frist would be much more to her liking. Since she doesn't have a record to fall back on, apart from what she pilfers from her husband's accomplishments, she needs issues - polarizing hot buttons - to hold her troops in line. Giuliani and McCain and Rice deny her these issues. But Allen or one of his ilk provide them in droves.
Hillary also faces a hurdle that Podhoretz... overlooks: the Democratic primary. The supreme irony is that ....

... While America appears not to be ready for a female president under any circumstances, the post-9/11 realities pose special problems for a female presidential candidate. Add to these the problems unique to missus clinton. The reviews make the mistake of focusing on the problems of the generic female presidential candidate running during ordinary times.
These are not ordinary times. America is waging the global War on Terror; the uncharted territory of asymmetric netherworlds is the battlefield; the enemy is brutal, subhuman; the threat of global conflagration is real.
Defeating the enemy isn't sufficient. For America to prevail, she must also defeat a retrograde, misogynous mindset. To successfully prosecute the War on Terror, it is essential that the collective patriarchal islamic culture perceives America as politically and militarily strong. Condi Rice excepted, this requirement presents an insurmountable hurdle for any female presidential candidate, and especially missus clinton, historically antimilitary--(an image, incidentally, that is only enhanced today by her clumsy, termagant parody of Thatcher), forever the pitiful victim, and, according to Dick Morris, "the biggest dove in the clinton administration."
It is ironic that had the clintons not failed utterly to fight terrorism... not failed to take bin Laden from Sudan... not failed repeatedly to decapitate a nascent, still stoppable al Qaeda... the generic female president as a construct would still be viable... missus clinton's obstacles would be limited largely to standard-issue clintonisms: corruption, abuse, malpractice, malfeasance, megalomania, rape and treason... and, in spite of Juanita Broaddrick, or perhaps because of her, Rod Lurie would be reduced to perversely hawking the "First Gentleman" instead of the "Commander-in-Chief."

AN OPEN LETTER TO TIM ROBBINS, DAVID GEFFEN, CHRIS MATTHEWS, MAUREEN DOWD + JEANINE PIRRO
RE: a not-so-modest proposal concerning hillary clinton
Dear Concerned Americans,
Hillary Clinton's revisionist tome notwithstanding, 'living history' begets a certain symmetry. It is in that light that I make this not-so-modest proposal on this day, exactly 64 years after the attack on Pearl Harbor.
The context of our concern today--regardless of political affiliation--is Iraq and The War on Terror, but the larger fear is that our democracy may not survive.
We have the requisite machines, power and know-how to defeat the enemy in Iraq and elsewhere, but do we have the will?
In particular, do we have the will to identify and defeat the enemy in our midst?
Answerable to no one, heir apparent in her own mind, self-serving in the extreme, Hillary Clinton incarnates this insidious new threat to our survival.
What we decide to do about Missus Clinton will tell us much about what awaits us in these perilous new times.

Podhoretz urges Republicans to set aside ideology and social issues and unite So Podhoretz suggests GOP conservatives just surrender to the RINOs and shut our mouths about issues like gun control, immigration, taxes, gov't spending, and abortion as to not divide the party, which in turn would make it easier for Hillary to become Prez?

Since hillary is so concerned about abortion, we need to ask Hillary for her support to ban the murder of very young human beings. For those who want to ask her to ban abortion:

My thoughts exactly. He's hoping the social conservatives - the ones who decided the last election - will just shut up and pull the lever for a pro-abortion, anti-gun, pro-gay rights liberal. Sorry, Johnny, not in this lifetime. Why is it that so many think that such a candidate is the only type who can beat Her Heinous, when previous election results show otherwise?

Hillary can be beaten easily so long as the GOP doesn't try to out-democrat the democrats. That's not a given anymore.

You are erroneously focusing on the non-dispositive issues. Giuliani is leading in the polls not because of his views per se but because of who he is.
We must pick the best candidate. Period. He (and it must be a 'he'--see 'HILLARY'S COMMANDER-IN-CHIEF PROBLEM' above) will, IMO, be in some ways a non-Bush.
He will be seen as highly competent, a strong leader, a strong Commander in Chief, have demonstrated success fighting terrorists and criminals, be a great communicator and, most important, be a non-ideologue: The country has been demagogued on this, and fairly or not, will look for comity in 08.
Timing is everything. If you really want to win--and by that I mean succeeding in achieving your agenda--you will pick your fights and the timing wisely. If we lose the war, nothing else will matter.

Successful brainwashing is what did it. The RINO establishment has been drilling this bit of fantasy into the mushy heads of the party faithful for quite a while, and now many believe it. The last Republican Presidential nominee who ran on a strong conservative platform (emphasizing small gov't) was Ronald Reagan, and he annihilated his Democrat competition in two straight elections:

Why do you think a questionable politically "Conservative" but solidly Socially Conservative candidate beat handily a solid resume "Conservative" with a very high life time rating from the Amercing Conservative Union in 2000 for the Republican Nomination?
The Country Club "Conservatives" with their check list of one issues politics, glossy publications and Talk Shows have not run this party since the 1970s. They think they run it. They do not. They are merely the tag alongs who rode the Conservative Movement, or hitched on to it in the late 1990s, as their meal ticket.
The people who show up at the events, pay the donations and serve in the campaigns and party organs are NOT the Libertarian/Fiscal/Know Nothing Conservatives doing all the squealing around Free Republic these days. The heart of the Conservative base is the small entrepreneur or working class church going family people. They are NOT going to sign on for a socially liberal/moderate Candidate. That may sell well in the talking head circles of arm chair political pundits, it will NOT sell to the real Conservative base. And the base, not the talking heads, nominates the Republican Candidate.
Hey I like Rudy, he will never be the Republican Candidate.

Lopez: Rudy? Does it have to be Rudy?
Podhoretz: It doesn't have to be Rudy, but in my view he is the best candidate for the GOP. He remains wildly popular despite having made almost no public appearances in the past two years. His record as mayor of New York City—which one can plausibly argue is a job equal to being the governor of most states—remains the most extraordinary example of active conservative governance at the local level in the past 75 years. He is not a Washington candidate, which means he can separate himself from the congressional party's excesses and hijinks. Most important, he spent eight years as a liberal-slayer in New York, taking on every major institution, refusing to kowtow to the New York Times and the liberal media, and getting so much done that the city is still reveling in the revival for which he was almost solely responsible.
Lopez: Why not John McCain? Why not an Allen or Romney?
Podhoretz: John McCain has too complicated a history with the social conservatives and activist groups, and is such a gadfly that it seems inevitable he will act in ways to divide the GOP coalition. Unlike Rudy, he seems to prefer making friends with liberals and attacking conservatives, and that's not a good stance for a party leader. I guess George Allen is a plausible candidate, but why is he at three percent in polls of likely primary voters while McCain and Giuliani are nearly 30 points higher? As for Mitt Romney, I just don't think the nation is ready for a Mormon president (and by the way, I say that as an observant Jew who doesn't think the nation is ready for a Jewish president either).

The only reasons he has to make some of the remarks he is making is to sell his books, and to get a name for himself....remember billy boy fired him in his second term...or maybe I should say hillyboy had billyboy fire him...
I don't trust Dick Morris as far as I could throw him....I don't know who this guy is that says all this stuff....but the way the Republicans in New York feel about Rudy isn't going to get Rudy anywhere....Rudy ran in New York as a 'pubbi' cause thats the only way he could run as Mayor....

And the year leading up to RR's reelection, (the largest victory in Presidential election history), his book Abortion and the Conscience of the Nation came out.
There were folks who had advised him that maybe this wasn't such a good idea before an election.
RR thought otherwise.

Conservatism, like zoysia, needs to be given the chance to propagate.
Both need to be nourished and watered if they are to flourish. If ignoble seeds are continually spread amongst either, their potential then will never be realized.

I agree with your opinion of Morris.
So like everyone else - you use Morris. He tells you how/where the wind is blowing. (then you do the opposite)
What I can't figure out is - does Morris know we know this or does he think everyone hangs onto his every word.

Morris and Podhoretz are both wrong. We the people will defeat Hillary.
We the people will elect another great Republican candidate for President in '08.
We the people will vote against Hillary (or whoever the 'Rats nominate).
Good people are connecting rapidly.
Run Hillary Run!

Au contraire. Zoysia chokes out weeds and inferior grasses, needs far less water than other grasses, thrives in blistering heat and survives the coldest winters, is excellent for slopes and other tough conditions, reduces mowing to once a month or less, naturally resists insects, grows incredibly thick.... ;)
