Grand Ole Opry Legend Billy Walker Dies In Wreck

FT. DEPOSIT, Ala. - Billy Walker, the Grand Ole Opry legend whose hits included "Charlie's Shoes" and "Cross the Brazos at Waco," died in a wreck along an Alabama interstate on Sunday. He was 77.

Walker was killed with three others when a van they were riding in ran off Interstate 65 south of Montgomery and overturned, state troopers said.

Too bad. Seen him many times on tv. Always seemed like a nice guy. Everytime I saw him, I thought he and jack Palance must be related!

My father grew up with the Walker family in Ralls, Texas. a little wide place in the road in West Texas.
